Korean Navy Launches New Submarine

Korea launched a new submarine on Friday. The 214 class Sohn Won-il was launched from Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan. The Shon Won-il accommodates a crew of 40. The 214 comes with a $350m price tag, and the Navy plans to acquire nine of them by around 2020.

US NVOCC Adds LCL Imports from Malaysia

Troy Container Line launches new direct import service from Port Kelang to NYC   American-owned NVOCC Troy Container Line today announced a new direct LCL import service from Malaysia to New York.   The company said it will now offer an enhanced import logistical solution from Port Kelang, also known as Port Klang, to the northeast in addition to pick-ups throughout Malaysia.

Indian Coast Guard Launches New Patrol Vessel

The Indian Coast Guard has launched a new patrol vessel named after Meera Ben, a foreigner who voluntarily adopted a life dedicated to Gandhian values. The vessel, to be stationed at Gujarat's Okha Port, will enhance the Coast Guard's efficiency in combating piracy, apprehending drug traffickers and preventing infiltration of insurgents, district operations and plans officer B K Singh said here today. Ferus Smit Launches Arklow Cape

Shipbuilder Ferus Smit has launched new build M.V. Arklow Cape on Friday, October 21 at its Westerbroek shipyard in the Netherlands   Arklow Cape (Nb. 425) is the second vessel in a series of 10 that will be delivered to Irish owner Arklow Shipping.   With a maximized hold volume of 220,000 cft and a carrying capacity over 5,000 deadweight tons, the ship falls under the 3,000 gross tons limit. Arklow Cape has one single hold and an 1A iceclass notation. It is propelled by a 1,740 kW MaK engine with a single ducted propeller.

PTC Launches New Design Software

CBR reports that product development company PTC has announced the availability of CADDS 5i R14, a design software product for the shipbuilding industry, as well as other large assembly manufacturers, to support product development. CADDS 5i R14 is supported with a new version of CADDS 5i workgroup management software, Optegra 8, which helps engineering teams work together more effectively.

EU Launches New Kvaerner Shipyard Aid Probe

The European Commission is expected to start a probe into state aid to a German subsidiary of Anglo-Norwegian engineering and shipbuilding group Kvaerner Plc. The Commission suspects that the company may have received excessive subsidies of around $60.06 million to cover future losses during the restructuring of its Kvaerner Warnow (KWW) shipyard in eastern Germany. Last July, the Commission said KWW must repay $40.7 million in restructuring aid because it broke a production ceiling set as a condition of approving restructuring aid linked to the yard's privatization in 1992.

Date Set for Fifth Iridium NEXT Launch

Iridium Communications Inc. announced that the fifth Iridium NEXT launch has been targeted by SpaceX for March 18, 2018 at 8:19 a.m. PDT from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The first of four launches planned for 2018, Iridium-5 will deliver 10 more Iridium NEXT satellites to orbit, bringing the total number of new satellites deployed to 50. This launch will use the same Falcon 9 first stage as the Iridium-3 launch that took place in October 2017 and begin a rapid-cadence launch schedule targeting completion of the Iridium manifest by mid-2018. "We are entering the home stretch," said Matt Desch, chief executive officer, at Iridium. "This is going to be a monumental year for us as we complete our constellation refresh.

BAE Systems Launches New Royal Navy Destroyer

HMS Dauntless, the Royal Navy’s newest Type 45 destroyer, has been launched at BAE Systems’ shipyard in Govan on the Clyde, according to The Manufacturer. HMS Dauntless is the second of the new Type 45 class of anti-air warfare destroyers to be launched by BAE in the last 12 months. The VT Group in Portsmouth and BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions are each responsible for building and outfitting substantial sections of the ship, and these are then assembled on the Clyde. Three further Type 45s are currently under construction and work on a sixth ship is due to start soon. New Barge Fleeting and Switching Operation in Cairo Harbor

American River Transportation Company (ARTCO), a subsidiary of Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), today announced plans to launch new barge fleeting and switching operations in the Cairo, Illinois, harbor starting January 1, 2016. The Cairo harbor is a vital hub in the inland waterway supply chain. The new operation will be based in Wickliffe, Kentucky, and will provide fleeting and switching operations from mile 948 on the Lower Mississippi River to mile 29 on the Upper Mississippi and mile 974 on the Ohio River. “ARTCO is the only company in the inland waterway system that can provide a self-contained supply chain to our customers, which allows us to provide better, more efficient and cost-effective service,” said Jason Porter, vice president, ARTCO operations.
