SCHOTTEL has secured a contract with Russian Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard to provide propulsion units for eleven newly built cargo vessels. With the signature of INEA (Innovation & Networks Executive Agency of the European Commission) on the Grant Agreement of NAVAIS, the project officially started on June, 1 2018. NAVAIS is a multiannual research- and innovation program for the shipbuilding industry. The results of NAVAIS will increase efficiency in design and flexibility in production networks. In total, the European Commission will invest € 6.5 million Euros ($7.5 mln) over a period of four years, by means of the Horizon 2020 program, the research- and innovation program of the European Commission.

A challenge for designers or an emergency response vessel is deciding to what type of emergency the boat will respond. The designers at the non-government Marine Engineering Bureau in Odessa Ukraine have fitted a very wide range of capabilities into their 31.73 by 9.7-meter tug. The vessel’s beams and 4.1-meter molded depth will give it the stability for handling heavy ships. The azimuthing stern drive tug will be ready to handle a wide range of services. These will range from towing various objects to auxiliary operations in the harbor area.

The tendering process for the Yamal Novy Port terminal icebreaker design and build contract has kicked off, seeing seven companies submit bids for the project, IAA PortNews reported. The tender, announced by Vyborg Shipyard entrusted to build the vessels, received bids for the icebreaker’s design and construction from Spetssudoproekt CJSC, Nordic Yards Holding GmbH, Aker Arctic, FSUE Krylov State Research Center, Design Bureau for Shipbuilding “Vympel” OJSC, Marine Engineering Bureau – Design-SPb CJSC, and KhS Morskoye Proektirovanie LLC.

Construction work has been completed on the Spasatel Zaborschikov - the third in a series of multifunctional rescue-salvage ships (project MPSV07) built to RS class. The ship was delivered to the State Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (SMRCC) on June 20, 2014 and is being prepared for transfer to Vladivostok, its port of registry. Construction of the new ship was carried under a state contract for the Russian Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport and FGI Directorate of State Contracting Authority for Marine Transport Development Programs. The project was developed by Marine Engineering Bureau. RS class notation: КМ Arc 5 AUT1-ICS OMBO FF3WS DYNPOS-2 EPP Salvage ship.

Two river-sea oil tankers of project RST 22M are to be built to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) class. A relevant agreement is signed by RS with Armada Shipyard that will construct the ships for the Palmali Group of Companies. At present, RS experts are engaged in the plan approval of the ships. According to the agreement, RS will render classification of the newbuildings and survey under construction for compliance with applicable statutory requirements. RS experts will perform survey of hull construction and the installation of machinery, electrical and automation equipment, and will check the ship compliance with approved technical documentation, all the applicable international and national requirements, as well as participate in the mooring tests and trials.

Sonardyne International Ltd.’s Ranger 2 acoustic positioning technology has been selected by marine navigation systems group, Transas, for use on two new build ice-class multipurpose salvage vessels (MPSVs, the project is developed by Marine Engineering Bureau) commissioned by the Russian Ministry of Transport. The vessels are currently under construction at Nordic Yards in Germany and will each be fitted with dual Ranger 2 Pro systems, the highest specification available, to support complex underwater positioning and critical DP station keeping tasks.

The sixth short-sea multi-purpose bulk carrier for North-West Shipping Co., named 'Neva Leader' has been delivered by the Nevsky Shipyard, as part of a project by Marine Engineering Bureau-Design-SPb, JSC. The tugboat RB-401 was built by Pella Shipyard for port operations in Kalingra, and to support the Russian Baltic Sea Fleet. The shipbuilder explains that multi-purpose dry-cargo vessels of deadweight more than 7000 tons RSD49 project are the largest of the existing dry-cargo vessels of the 'river-sea' type in Russia.

The salvage vessel Spasatel Zaborschikov has been handed over by Nevsky Shipyard to the appropriate department of Russia's Transport Ministry after successful sea trials. Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) and Nordic Yards Wismar GMBH have signed an agreement on classification under construction and survey for compliance with the applicable statutory requirements of two MPSV 06 NY multipurpose icebreaking salvage vessels. The ships of 7 MW each to be constructed by 2015 in Wismar (Germany) under the Federal Target Program Transport System Development in Russia (2010-2015) by the order of the Federal Treasury Institution State Customer Directorate for Sea Transport Development Programs. The basic MPSV 06 project was developed by the Marine Engineering Bureau and finalized by Nordic Yards Wismar GMBH. Wärtsilä has received several orders for propulsion systems from Russian organizations recently. The most recent contracts include repeat orders for integrated electro-propulsion packages for new state-owned Multipurpose Salvage Vessels, which are part of a national program to develop Russia's transportation system over the next five years. Last year, Wärtsilä was contracted to deliver an integrated electro-propulsion package for a state-owned Multipurpose Salvage Vessel (MPSV) being built at the Nevsky Shipyard in Schlisselburg, close to St Petersburg.
