McDonough Names Beerbohm VP of Maintenance

Metairie, La.-based marine transportation company McDonough Marine Service announced it has promoted longtime employee David Beerbohm to vice president of maintenance.For over 22 years, Beerbohm has been instrumental in leading the company's maintenance team, the company said.Before joining McDonough in 2000, Beerbohm help positions at Bollinger Shipyards and Boland Marine and Manufacturing.

McDonough to Build New 300-foot Deck Barge

McDonough Marine Service announced it has executed a contract to build the Marmac 305, a 300- by 100-foot deck barge for the offshore industry.Expecting to launch in summer 2023, the ABS-classed barge will be built at LAD Services in Amelia, La., Steve Cheredaryk, sales director at McDonough Marine Service, told MarineLink.The barge will feature ballastable internal tanks and have a deck load rating of 4,500 PSF. Its cargo capacity will be over 11,300 ST at load-line, McDonough said.The barge will join what is already one of the United States' largest fleets of 100-foot-wide Jones Act barges.

Conrad Delivers First of Four Spud Barges for McDonough

Conrad Shipyard said it has delivered the first of four ABS-classed spud barges to McDonough Marine Service, headquartered in Metairie, La.The identical spud barges each measure 180’ by 54’ by 12.5’, have deck strength of 2,500 pounds PSF, and four spud wells. The remaining barges are on schedule for delivery in the third and fourth quarters of 2021. The barges are being constructed at Conrad’s Deepwater South facility in Amelia, La., one of five Conrad shipyards located along the Louisiana/Texas Gulf Coast.Patrick M.

Elon Musk, a billionaire behind the SpaceX company, on Friday tweeted a video of a new Space X vessel named A Shortfall of Gravitas.SpaceX, or Space Exploration Technologies Corp, was founded by Musk back in 2002 to cut space transportation costs and eventually enable the colonization of Mars. It designs, manufactures and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft.According to available info, A Shortfall of Gravitas is an autonomous spaceport drone ship (ASDS) made from a converted deck barge, which is designed as a landing pad for SpaceX's rockets.

McDonough Launches M 2820 Barge

McDonough Marine Service has launched its latest barge design series at the Westport Orange Shipyard in Orange, Texas. The M 2820 (282’L x 54’W x 12’6”H, with 3,000 lbs/sq.ft. deck load rating) was delivered on-schedule, and is expected to bring greater possibilities to Project Cargo transportation on the inland waterways. “As growth continues to develop in the infrastructure, petrochemical and power generation markets, the engineered components and modules are increasing in both size and weight,” stated Pat Stant, President of McDonough Marine Service.

718-ton absorption tower discharged at Louisiana Ave. Fracht USA/Germany, a global freight forwarder, completed one of the heaviest project cargo lifts in the Port of New Orleans’ history January 12, discharging a 718-ton, 164-foot-long absorption tower from ship-to-barge. The SAL Amoenitas arrived at the port’s Louisiana Avenue Terminal January 10 after a 45-day trip from Shanghai, China. The lift was completed January 12 by SAL Heavy Lift, Fracht, Roll-Lift, McDonough Marine and the terminal’s stevedore - Coastal Cargo Company LLC.

Shallow Federal Policies Produce Even Shallower AIWW Drafts

The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway awaits the chance to rescue the crowded eastern seaboard with a readymade alternative to the parking lot known simply as I-95. The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) extends 1,200 miles from Norfolk, Va. to Key West, Fla.. That much is common knowledge. What you may not know is that the U.S. Congress authorized the creation of the AIWW in 1919 and the entire waterway was completed in 1940. Consisting of natural inlets, salt-water rivers, bays, and sounds; others are manmade canals, the canal is included on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated a National Civil Engineering Landmark.

Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings launched SeaGuard, an app that provides users with protective coating recommendations for VLCC/VLBCs, chemical tankers and OSV/PSVs. The app debuted on October 9 at The International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans. The app is optimized for both iOS and Android. The app is designed to help port engineers and fleet managers access accurate and up-to-date coatings information via mobile technology. It’s a convenient alternative to bulky binders stuffed with outdated product data sheets.

With a family of three yards located along the Gulf of Mexico in Alabama, Mississippi and Texas, Signal International offers new construction, rig and ship repair, offshore and technical services. Marine construction and repair needs are complimented by three dry docks; a 30,000-ton lift rig dock, a 22,000-ton Panamax dry dock and a 4,500-ton lift dry dock. In Mobile, Ala., Signal Ship Repair (SSR) offers 4,400 ft. of water front along the Mobile River with a maintained channel depth of 44 ft. This facility specializes in ship repair and conversion.

Signal International has announced delivery of the MARMAC 304, the second new 300’ x 100’ x 20’ ABS ocean classed deck barge built for McDonough Marine Service by Signal’s Orange, TX Division this year. The barge was designed with an ABS load line maximum cargo capacity of 13,200 short tons and uniform deck strength of 4,500 lbs/sq. ft. It will be ready for charter through McDonough Marine Service in September and eventually will be fleeted in Amelia, La. “Using modular construction techniques we are capable of a highly efficient and cost competitive operation with unequaled quality.

McDonough Marine Service announced the launching of another new barge MARMAC 304 (300’ x 100’ x 20’), the third in a series of new ABS ocean classed deck barges commissioned by the barge and tug company.  The barge was built for McDonough Marine Service by Signal International in Orange, Texas.   The MARMAC 304 barge was designed with an ABS Load line maximum cargo capacity of 13,200 short tons and uniform deck strength of 4,500 lbs/sq. ft.   The MARMAC 304 will be delivered and ready for charter early next week and eventually will be fleeted in Amelia, La.     mcdonoughmarine.com

McDonough Launch First of Seven Spud Barges

McDonough Marine Service has launched the first in a series of seven new inland spud barges. The spud barges are being constructed at Yager Marine Industries in Owensboro, Kentucky and range from 110’ to 140’ in length. The first of the series to be launched is the KS 4011 with the dimensions of 110’ x 40’ x 7’6”. The barge was designed with a boxed stern that provides maximum flotation during crane operations. This design provides operators an opportunity to work safely in the inland marine construction environment, McDonough said.

McDonough Marine Service announced the launching of a new barge, Marmac 303 (300 feet by 100 by 20), the second in a series of new ABS ocean classed deck barges commissioned by the barge and marine transportation company. The Marmac 303 barge was designed with an ABS Load line maximum cargo capacity of 13,200 short tons at 15.7-foot draft. The uniform deck strength of 4,500 pounds per square foot, combined with increased side shell strength, provides clients with maximum hull protection.

McDonough Arrives in Suriname to Move Cargo

McDonough Marine Service was contracted to provide tug and barge for project cargo transport in Suriname. The tow arrived on location for the barging of vessels and modules from shipside to a refinery near Paramaribo, Suriname. The refinery is upgrading modularized plant components with cargo fabrication originating from various ports around the world. The refinery will be built along the SurinameRiver using one of McDonoughMarine’s project cargo barges and an offshore tug. McDonough Marine Service expects to complete the project by late August 2013 when all cargo is delivered.

The Board of Managers of McDonough Marine Service has announced that Patrick M. Stant has succeeded David C. Hanby, Jr. as President of McDonough Marine Service, effective January 1, 2012.       Mr. Stant has served numerous positions with McDonough Marine Service including, most recently, Executive Vice President.  Mr. Hanby retires after serving in a variety of roles with McDonough Marine Service during his more than 35 year tenure with the company which includes more than 10 years of service as President and Chief Operating Officer. McDonough Marine Service was founded by Bernard P. McDonough and is a subsidiary of McDonough Corporation headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona.
