MSC Hikes Stake in Terminal Investment

ICG Sells Oscar Wilde Ferry to MSC

Dublin-based maritime transportation group Irish Continental Group (ICG) has entered into a bareboat hire purchase agreement for the sale of the cruise ferry “Oscar Wilde” to MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.The total consideration for the sale is EUR28.9m, payable in instalments over six years, up to 2025.Delivery to the buyer is expected to take place this month, said a company release.Built in 1987, the Oscar Wilde was bought by ICG in 2007 and operated on Irish Ferries’ route to France.

Switzerland-based shipping company MSC is pledging to pay the cost of cleaning up hundreds of containers MSC Zoe spill in a North Sea storm."MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company would like to reassure authorities and members of the public in the Netherlands and Germany that the company will pay the full costs of the clean-up of the 2 January MSC Zoe container spill," said a press release from the company.MSC is committed to continue searching the sea for the containers which fell overboard, until the last one is found, it said.

GCI Acquisition Fetches Extra Money for Seaspan

The Hong Kong-based containership lessor Seaspan Corporation reported a net profit of $67 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2018 as revenues rose 11.7 percent to $244 million compared with the same 2017 period. The addition of operating vessels from the buyout of Greater China Intermodal Investments (GCI) led to higher revenues. The company has informed that it has completed accretive acquisition with an implied enterprise value of $1.6 billion of the remaining 89% that Seaspan did not own of GCI.

MAN Diesel & Turbo has won the order from MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company for 11 × 23,000 TEU container vessels equipped with 11 × MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9.5 main engines. Mediterranean Shipping Company Cleans Up Durban Cargo Spill

When a freak storm hit the Port of Durban on 10 October 2017, two cargo containers holding plastic nurdles were dislodged from the deck of an MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company cargo vessel and fell into the harbour. The containers were particularly vulnerable at that time, as they had been loosened for unloading, in line with standard port operations procedures. Hurricane-force winds, torrential rains and flash-floods hit the port of Durban and surrounding region in what amounted to a provincial disaster.

MSC, Maersk Work on Data Sharing after Cyber Attack

Swiss container line MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) is working with vessel-sharing partner Maersk to find ways to share data after a cyber attack on the Danish company, MSC said on Wednesday. MSC said it was prepared to divert ships away from affected Maersk terminals. "We are working together to find other means to transmit data between the two companies. This includes ... customs information," MSC said in a statement, adding that it had not experienced any cyber attack on its own operations. Maersk and MSC are the world’s top two container shipping lines.
