Aquaculture: Inside the De Maas’ Offshore Fish Farm

CSL Launches Passenger/Cargo Ship for Andaman

CSL to Build Marine Ambulance Boats

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), the largest shipbuilding and maintenance facility in India, announced the Keel Laying ceremony of Marine Ambulance boats being built for the Department of Fisheries, Government of Kerala.Mrs. J Mercykutty Amma,  Minister of Fisheries, Government of Kerala did the honours in a function held at CSL.The formal start of construction of the first of the series of three marine ambulance boats was carried out in the presence of senior officials from State Fisheries Department, BPCL and Indian Register of Shipping. #Oi2020: Drill Bit Rescue from 30,000 ft.

Drilling wells more than three miles deep in the late 1960s was something that GHK Company and partner Lone Star Producing Company believed would product massive amounts of natural gas. The two companies that began this project discovered in 1974 that South of Burns Flat in Washita County their Bertha Rogers No. 1 rig would reach almost six miles deep, following a deep-sea fishing trip. Averaging 60 feet per day, the rig (at that time) was destined to become the world’s deepest well.

Radio Holland Books Six-Ship Order From Royal Bodewes

Radio Holland Netherlands has received an order for a full Nav/Com package for six vessels being built at Royal Bodewes in Hoogezand, highlighting longstanding relationships, both with Royal Bodewes and manufacturer Furuno. The FURUNO FAR-22x8/23x8 series is characterised by its state-of-the-art antenna design and innovative signal processing techniques. Radio Holland will install the new FAR radar, together with 26” screens, on all six of the new vessels, which are being built at Royal Bodewes. Mumbai Harbour Channel and JN Port Channel to Expand

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, India chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Wednesday approved fresh estimates of the project Deepening and Widening of Mumbai Harbour Channel and JN Port Channel (Phase-II). The cost of the project will be Rs 2029 crore excluding the Service Tax. The entire project cost will be funded through internal resources of JN Port Trust (JNPT) with market borrowing, if necessary. The project includes the existing channel to be widened from presently 370 m to 450 m for straight reach, channel to be extended from existing 33.5 Kms to 35.5 Kms. The draft of the channel will be increased from existing 14 m draft to 15 m draft. The estimated quantity to be dredged to the tune of 35.03 million cu.mtr. including 1.73 million cu.mtr. rock dredging.

Nb. 434 to be christened ‘Symphony Provider

On Thursday the 9th of March, 11.00 hrs Nb. 434 will be christened as ‘Symphony Provider’. She is the second in a series of two ECOBOX DP2 vessels that will be delivered to Symphony Shipping. As add-on compared to the already delivered ECOBOX design, these ships are equipped with a DP2 (Dynamic Positioning) system which keeps the vessel within an exact position or heading limits, even in the most severe wind and wave conditions. Main dimensions (Loa X B X T) 125 X 18.0 X 7.8 mtr. Propulsion system for DP2 operation with abt. ERN=92 performance. Consisting of 2 ducted azimuthing thrusters aft, and 3 bowthrusters forward. Driven by 3 main engines of aggregate 7400 kW output in combined diesel-direct and diesel-electric configuration. 10500 DWT, 429.000 cft hold volume.

Mermaid Terminates Newbuild Drilling Rigs Contract

Mermaid Maritime and China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMIH) have mutually agreed to cancel the construction contract  for the construction of tender assist drilling rigs to be named ‘MTR-3’ and ‘MTR-4’  respectively. All pre-paid installments and associated costs were already recorded as asset-impairments in Mermaid’s 2015 Financial Statements. No further payments are due to the Builder. The contract price for each of the Rigs (which is inclusive of rig equipment spares) was USD 149 Million). This is equivalent to USD 298 Million for both Rigs. The Owners had made a pre-paid installment of US$ 44 Million for both Rigs pursuant to the Construction Contracts.

INS Vikramaditya 'Refit" for Sea

The aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya has successfully completed its first routine maintenance, a 43-day short refit, at the Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL), and is at a high level of operational competence and preparedness. Rajesh Gopalakrishnan, General Manager (Ship Repair Division) at CSL said “Till INS Vikramaditya docked in Cochin Shipyard and water was pumped out of the dock and we had her sitting safely, there was a real concern on whether India could do it”. INS Vikramaditya is one of the biggest ships owned by India and ever  to have docked in India till date. In September, the Indian Navy, one of CSL’s biggest client, decided to dry-dock the carrier attached to its Karwar Naval Base at CSL for repairs on a contracted schedule of 70 days.

Mermaid Maritime Bags Subsea Contracts, Delays Newbuilding

Thailand’s Mermaid Maritime said it has been awarded a number of subsea contracts in the Middle East with a total worth of $11million. It has also reached an agreement with builder China Merchants Industry Holdings to postpone the delivery dates for its new assets currently under construction. Off Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Mermaid's western hemisphere business unit won seven subsea projects with an estimated aggregate value of US$11 million. The subsea projects involve survey, inspection, repair and maintenance and light construction in various offshore fields including Manifa, Safaniya, Zuluf and Tanajib in Saudi Arabia. Most projects will be completed by the end of August, Mermaid said.

Symphony Sun is a vessel of our ‘Ecobox’ design, which is characterized by its flexibility of loading combined with very economical and ecological performance. – Main dimensions (Loa X B X T) 122.5 X 17.0 X 7.8 mtr. – 10500 DWT, 429.000 cft hold volume. – Iceclass 1A with 3000 kW main engine. – A large single hold of completely box shaped form. – Large loading floor area for project cargoes, including complete movable tweendeck. – 2 X 85 tons cargo cranes. – Deckhouse placed on foreship for better protection of deck cargo and enabling to load oversized items over the stern.

‘Nordana Sea’ Delivered to Symphony Shipping

After successful sea trials, Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit delivered a 10,550 dwt multi-purpose cargo carrier M.V. Nordana Sea to Symphony Shipping on February 11th 2016. Being the third unit in a series of 6 newbuilds Ferus Smit’s DP2 Ecobox design, departed on her maiden voyage in ballast to Esbjerg, where she will pick up large windmill components to be delivered in Greece. After successful sea trials, M.V. Nordana Sea was delivered to Symphony Shipping on February 11, 2016. Constructed by builder Ferus-Smit in the Netherlands (yard number 419), Nordana Sea is the third unit in a series of six newbuilds of the yard’s Ecobox design. The ship has now left the river Ems on her maiden voyage in ballast to Esbjerg, where she will pick up large windmill components to be delivered in Greece. According to the shipbuilder, the Ecobox design is characterized by its flexibility of loading combined with very economical and ecological performance.

First Ecobox Nordana Sky in Operation

MV Nordana Sky was delivered to Symphony Shipping on March 26 after the vessel completed sea trials, the builder Ferus Smit announced. Nordana Sky is the first vessel in a series of six ships in the new ECOBOX general/project cargo ship design. It features a single large boxshaped hold of 429,000 cft that can be optionally sailed ‘open top’ without maindeck hatches. Her hull caries 10550 DWT at main dimensions (Loa X B X T) 122.5 X 17.0 X 7.8 mtr. The deckhouse is placed on the foreship to optimally protect the cargo. Cargo handling can be done with the ships own 50/85 tons double cranes.

Shipbuilder Ferus Smit has launched newbuild bulk carrier vessel Arklow Breeze on Friday, March 20 at Westerbroek. Arklow Breeze is the sixth and final vessel of a series to be delivered to a client from the city of Arklow, Ireland. The design is a bulk oriented general cargo ship that will be mainly employed in the shipment of wheat, corn and other bulk commodities in European waters. Arklow Breeze will be delivered in April 2015. The hull form adapts the bulbless principle, creating a slender bow without bulb.

Ferus Smit announced it will launch Newbuuld 417 on Saturday, February 21 in Leer. Newbuild 417, a multipurpose vessel to be christened Nordana Sky, is the first vessel in a series of six that will be delivered to Symphony Shipping.
