Pecém Cargo Volume up by 19%

APM Terminals Pecém reported a 19% annual increase in container handling volumes as the gateway port to northeast Brazil. APM Terminals Pecém, which is the container operator at the Port of Pecém which is managed by the state-owned company CIPP (former Cearaportos), handled 130,008 moves (213,951 TEUs – twenty-foot equivalent units) in 2017 a new volume record. Daniel Rose, Managing Director of APM Terminals Pecém said “We have been working closely with our shipping line customers and our landside customers to ensure they had the port service levels needed to grow their business.

Spence Offers New Line of Safety Valves

Spence Engineering Company, Inc., announced a new line of Safety Valves featuring a soft seat for tighter shutoff in those applications where the operating pressure is close to the set pressure of the valve. These ASME Section I and VIII approved valves also featured rugged construction and two ring control which make them extremely dependable in terms of pop action, seat tightness and blowdown.

Gatto Industrial Starts Electroplating in North America

Gatto Industrial Platers, Inc. has launched its new Large Parts Zinc Electroplating Line, capable of plating parts up to 27 feet long and weighing up to 8,000 pounds. The new line’s tanks are 4 feet wide, 7.5 feet deep and 27 feet long, and enable Gatto to turn around the zinc plating of large parts in as little as 72 hours. “This new line offers our customers new plating advantages for large parts, and increases our plating capacity by 30-40%,” says George Gatto, Jr., one of the owners of the business.

KOHLER Launches New Oils for Generator Applications

A new line of aftermarket genuine oil from KOHLER is engineered specifically for generator applications. The fully-synthetic premium oils are available in three formulations for different fuel types and are optimized for use in industrial, mobile, marine and home generators. “Generators have to run when they’re needed – there’s no room for downtime,” said Patricio Iligaray, Manager of Aftermarket Parts for Kohler Power Systems. “And, the oil you choose makes a real difference. Generators are subjected to unique conditions that are different from engines that power other applications.

New MacAndrews Service

MacAndrews is to launch a line between Portugal, Spain, England and Russia. The shipping line will convey the containers on its own line to Rotterdam, where they will be transferred to ships of the French parent company CMA CGM from the line to St Petersburg. CMA CGM has two departures a week to Russia. With the new line, MacAndrews will be expanding its activities in the Baltic region. The shipping company already has a presence on the Polish market.

Hyster Variable Power Technology Engines

Hyster Company has launched a new line of industrial engines designed to increase productivity and fuel economy for its 3,000 - 7,000 lb. Class IV and V product lines.   The new engines from Power Solutions International (PSI) feature Hyster Variable Power Technology and offer a more powerful and efficient solution for demanding applications. Kenya's Railway Opening to Traffic in Mid-2017

The tracks for a new, faster railway linking the Indian Ocean port of Mombasa to Kenya's capital will be laid by the end of 2016 and will open for commercial traffic on target in June 2017, the chairman of Kenya Railways said on Friday. The Chinese-financed project is the first stage in a scheme that aims to extend to Uganda and other land-locked states. The goal is to cut the cost of transport and boost trade, by replacing a narrow-gauge line that has slower top speeds. "We're ahead of schedule," Kenya Railways managing director Atanas Maina said in Nairobi. Kenya had aimed to complete 40 percent of civil works, ranging from laying track to fixing bridges, by the end of 2015. It is now on track to complete half the by year end.

Pemamek Wins Contract

Pemamek Oy Ltd was recently awarded a contract of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, construction and delivery of a micro panel line. Commissioning in early 2013, the new modern micro panel line replaces the existing one. This new line will increase the shipyard’s productivity and therefore improve Aker Philadelphia Shipyards positioning at the market. Additionally, Pemamek Ltd contracted a yearly maintenance contract for the equipment and software for fully support in periodical maintenance and so enabling continuous production.

CMA CGM, SEATRADE Launch Joint Reefer Service

Container shipping firm CMA CGM Group and reefer transport specialist SEATRADE Group will together create a new vessel sharing agreement incorporating the services known by CMA CGM as PAD and by Seatrade as MERIDIAN, linking Northern Europe, the East Coast of the U.S., Central America, the Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Peru and the Caribbean on a weekly basis. The new service, expected to launch in October 2017, will bring together CMA CGM, SEATRADE and shipping company MARFRET and improve their frequency and port coverage.

CMA CGM Launches US Gulf-South Africa Line

CMA CGM announced the launch of its new KHULU Line dedicated to the U.S. With the addition of its newest line, CMA CGM now offers its customers eight services with a weekly call in South Africa. The line’s first sailing will be MV GREY FOX voy. 7S001R, ETD Houston on May 7, 2014. KHULU’s rotation is: Houston, Walvis Bay, Cape Town, Durban, Maputo, Richards Bay, Houston. CMA CGM said the line will bring onward transportation to the heart of Southern Africa countries (Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland) through Durban gateway.

Palmer Johnson Introduces Sport Yacht Series

Palmer Johnson, luxury yacht builder, has a new president and is introducing a new line of sport yachts. Mike Kelsey, Jr. was elected president of the Sturgeon Bay, Wisc. yacht builder in June 2004. Kelsey's grandfather, Patrick Haggerty, founder of Texas Instruments, purchased the yard in 1961. Kelsey's father Mike Kelsey, Sr. immediately went to work for Haggerty and passed the knowledge of fine yacht building down to his son. While there have been tough financial times at Palmer Johnson during recent years, the younger Kelsey believes the company's new line of sport yachts is a winner. At last year's Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, Palmer Johnson introduced Cover Drive, a very sleek 120-ft. sport yacht.

Bollinger Opens Engineering Office

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., which owns and operates nine shipyards in Louisiana, will open a satellite marine engineering and naval architecture office in Slidell, La., to accommodate increasing business, expanding product lines and planned new services. The office will be managed by Jude McDonald, a 30-year veteran in the marine industry. The facility will be linked to Bollinger's main engineering and design offices in Lockport via computers on a real-time basis for a seamless integration into the company's wide area netwodk and Oracle-based Enterprise Resource Planning system. American Classic Voyages has acquired one of the most storied and renowned names in the history of ocean-going passenger transportation - United States Lines - to be used for its fleet of cruise ships being developed under the company's Project America initiative. Known as one of the most prominent names in passenger shipping throughout the era of the trans-Atlantic crossing - a period that spanned from the early 1900's through the early 1960's. The last remaining vessel of the fleet, SS United States, was decommissioned in 1969. AMCV unveiled the new logo for the new line as designed by Tom Grabowski & Associates, which focuses on a stylized, American bald eagle centered on a field of nine gold stars.

Blount Industries' M/V Grande Mariner

Blount Industries newest cruise ship, M/V Grande Mariner, was built for American Canadian Caribbean Line, Inc. It is the second in a new line of Grande Class small cruise ships, built and designed for the American Canadian Caribbean Line, Inc. The 183 ft. ship accommodates 100 passengers, and is designed with several ACCL innovations, includinug patented bow ramp, shallow draft and retractable pilot house. Grande Mariner also features super-quiet engines and generators, ice-strengthening and a specially designed clear air system. The ship's hull is steel constructed with an aluminum superstructure. It is powered by two D2842LE Man diesel engines, producing 1,440 bhp @ 1,800 rpm. The engines turn two five-blade 48 x 39 in.

Comark’s New Display Passes Shock Testing

Comark, a designer and manufacturer of rugged computer and display solutions for the marine and military markets, has completed full environmental testing of its new 15” Military HMI, including MIL-901D Grade A lightweight shock testing. The 15” HMI is a sealed and fanless computer display unit developed for DDG 51 Machinery Control Applications. As with all Comark products, this new 15” HMI is designed with the latest technology, including current Core i5 processors, an LED backlit display, a rugged IR touchscreen, and integrated speaker.

Marlink Previews Line of Broadband VSAT Service

Marlink a supplier of integrated satellite communications equipment and network services previewed VSAT@SEA, the company's a new line of global maritime broadband satellite services enabling "always-on” at sea connectivity at a fixed monthly rate. Marlink's VSAT@SEA will feature three standard service configurations that include a minimum guaranteed committed information rate for IP-based communications providing resource-efficient means for conducting ship's business and enabling free Internet access and calling for crew members and passengers. Option 1 will provide vessels with two Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone lines coupled with a guaranteed 32kbps committed information rate for IP-based communications at sea.

New Underwater Beacon for Ship's VDR

RJE International has a new line of underwater locator beacons for Voyage Data Recorders (VDR’s) on large ships. The ELP-362M series of beacons is mounted on a ship’s black box to facilitate location and recovery of data analysis, in the event of an accident. As of July 1, 2014 the IMO (International Maritime Organization ) requires that all new voyage data recorders be fitted with  90 day battery life beacons, such as RJE’s  ELP-362M90 Underwater Locator Beacon. Existing voyage data recorders can continue to utilize 30 day beacons such as the ELP-362M Underwater Locator Beacon. Both beacon models are BSH Certified and feature military grade corrosion resistance material backed by a 5 year warranty.

Yanmar Debuts New Diesel Range

Yanmar Marine USA Corporation introduced another engine in its new line of electronic control diesel engines, the 6LY3A-ETP, rated 480 hp @ 3,300 rpm. It is a turbocharged and intercooled in-line-six with four valves per cylinder. In testing, it achieved up to 10 percent better fuel consumption than the model it replaces. The 6LY3A-ETP complies with EPA Tier 2 emissions regulations. The technologically advanced electronic control provides constant power regulation and synchronizes engine speeds of twin and triple installations. Its torque-inducing, high-pressure fuel delivery system offers improved economy, reduced noise at idle and decreased smoke and fuel odor. The new 6LY3A-ETP communicates through the NMEA 2000 CAN-BUS system which allows for boat-wide network capability.

New Brass Ball Valve from Wabtec

Wabtec Corporation (NYSE:WAB) introduced two new lines of brass ball valve products to serve a variety of industrial markets, including Oil and Gas, LP Gas and Chemical Manufacturing. For industrial markets, Wabtec now offers a robust valve that can withstand extreme temperature changes. The valve features a preloaded seat to extend valve life by keeping the ball seals pressed against the ball as the seals wear. These valves, which can also be refurbished with replacement kits, come in Full port, Conventional port, and UL Listed. They can be configured to fit custom applications. In addition, Wabtec offers an economy brass ball valve line to complement the premium line.
