Jeamar's Winches Are Customized To Order

Jeamar Winches has commenced a new program, dubbed "Build to Order," whereby winches are designed and manufactured specifically to client requirements. The new program can customize products, such as a double drum lifting winch with grooved drums, two independent fail safe braking systems - one hydraulic and one electromechanical, plus a travel limit control.

Maritime TV Gets Development Funding

TV worldwide internet TV Channel –  Maritime TV –  receives strategic investment for new program development and expansion. TV Worldwide, (www.TVWorldwide.com ), a pioneering web-based global TV network since 1999, announces that one of its subsidiary Internet TV Channels, Maritime TV, (www.MaritimeTV.com ), has received a strategic investment from the ALCC, Inc. Pension Plan Trust. Maritime TV says it is now the industry's pre-eminent channel for live and archived webcasts and video presentations involving the commercial and military shipping industry. TV Worldwide added that the investment proceeds would be used to fund the development of new programming in an expanding live and on-demand content line-up as well as in channel infrastructure development, worldwide.

JRC Announces New Program

JRC North America, the Seattle-based branch of Japan Radio Co., Ltd., has announced an aggressive new program to gain an increased share of the marine electronics market in the U.S. and Canada. Ray Carter, national sales manager, said JRC will pursue greater sales in electronics for the pleasurecraft, megayacht, commercial fishing and workboat markets. The company has already stated prices will not raise prices on its products in 2999 The company offers radards from compact 16-mile units for small boats to 120-mile systems and sophisticated ARPA for high seas use. The line includes LCD and CRT instruments with six to 28 in. screens, some in color.

Keppel Strengthens Safety with Leadership Training Initiative

Keppel Shipyard Limited, the shiprepair unit of Keppel Corporation Limited through its wholly owned subsidiary, Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Keppel O&M), has launched a Safety Leadership Program. Aimed at ensuring that safety practices are built into everyday work processes, this new program is the latest initiative by the yard to achieve an incident-free work environment. The program reinforces and promotes safe work behavior through effective observation and intervention by supervisors. There are above 10,000 workers daily working at Keppel Shipyard and these workers are managed by the supervisors.

Military Sealift Command Reorganizes

The U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command today announced an organization re-alignment designed to increase efficiency while maintaining effectiveness. MSC is implementing the plan to realign three core aspects of the Washington, D.C.,-based command's shore side operations: the roles of three of the command's Senior Executive Service personnel, the number and structure of programs that conduct the command's seagoing missions, and the reporting structure of several field activities. Launch Date Set for Two New Job Training Programs

Renee Marazon, CEO, The Maritime Academy of Toledo Foundation, said that applications for people interested in the Cruise Ship Professional Development and STCW Basic Safety Training Programs have been sent out, and that a launch date of  January 16, 2012 for the new programs has been set. In November, The Maritime Foundation received a $25,000 grant from First Energy’s Economic Development Fund through City of Toledo Mayor Michael P. Bell’s administration. “Over the past six weeks we received over 100 requests for information about the two new programs,” said Ms. Marazon. “We completed our development of the qualification and application process. We have met with The Source of Lucas  County so they can help recruit potential applicants.

TEN Execs Authorize Common Share Repurchase Program

Tsakos Energy Navigation Limited (TEN) announced that its Board of Directors has authorized a new share repurchase program on the company’s common shares allocating up to $20 million for purchases in the open market and in other transactions. The timing of any share purchases, the prices and the exact number of shares to be purchased will be dependent on market conditions. This is the fifth share repurchase program TEN’s Board has authorized since the initiation of the programs in 2005. Since its listing in the NYSE in March of 2002, the company has generated approximately $1 billion in net income and has expanded its fleet from 26 to 50 vessels becoming one of the largest transporters of energy in the world.

MARAD Electronic Transmission Options

The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) issued an interim rule offering electronic options for submission of information that is collected by the agency. The agency is also seeking comments on its new program, which should be submitted by December 5, 2003. 68 Fed. Reg. 62535 (November 5, 2003). Source: HK Law

ACL to Offer Coast Guard-Approved Training Program

American Commercial Lines Inc. (ACL) announced that it will offer the nation's first Inland River Pre-License Steersman training program in partnership with Northeast Maritime Institute of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. On August 31, 2006, the United States Coast Guard approved the new Inland River Pre-Steersman training program. This program can shorten the total time of license eligibility for Apprentice Mate (the first stage in the licensing process of a professional mariner) by approximately 50%. The\ program includes classroom, simulator and sea time. The new program will initially be offered only to ACL employees. ACL and Northeast Maritime Institute are currently working on the next phase of the program which may further shorten the remaining licensing period.

MOL Enhances Seafarer Education in Philippines

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today announced an agreement to introduce the Third Year Program with seven merchant marine schools in the Magsaysay Institute of Shipping (MIS*1) in Philippines. The move is aimed at cultivating seafarers who support high level of safety standards in vessel operations. MIS selected new Filipino seafarers from among third-year students at merchant marine schools, and gave them one year of training on MOL’s training ship and other MOL-operated vessels. The new program will bring forward selection of new seafarers by one year.

Metal Shark Launches Stock Boats Program

Louisiana-based boat builder Metal Shark says it is ramping up production to build an inventory of stock vessels, with the goal of reducing lead times and enhancing its service to customers. Metal Shark has traditionally custom-built each vessel to accommodate its customers’ unique mission requirements. To continue this practice, vessels built as part of the company’s new Stock Boats program will in most cases be built to a stage where they are awaiting final outfitting. New Voyage Planning Program

Seagull AS presented its new Voyage Planning Program - VP version 1.0. This software has been developed in close cooperation with the ECDIS supplier/developer MARIS AS. Northern Marine Management Glasgow/UK will be the first customer using this new SW on board all ships Seagull has completed a new program covering the needs for any vessel and navigator to complete a comprehensive voyage plan according to any known charter requirements. The Voyage Planning program has been developed in close cooperation with 'MARIS AS'. The software has been prepared for interfacing information from ECDIS, weather information, port information, etc. The software can easily be upgraded to a fully licenses ECDIS through cooperation with the ECDIS manufacture MARIS AS.

Seafarers Beware – Social Media Ahead

Videotel, part of KVH Industries, Inc., has launched a new program, Social Media at Sea, addressing the unique dangers of inappropriate use of social media by shipboard personnel and providing simple solutions to ensure that seafarers understand the dangers - and benefits - of this onboard revolution. Since the use of the Internet has now become commonplace on many vessels, seafarers often have much more freedom to communicate with friends and family using social media tools.

Atsec Fixed Reader Passes TWIC Trials

Atsec announced the successful test of Schneider Electric’s PC3-TBR reader against the specifications set forth by the TWIC Reader Evaluation Program. Before vendors can sell their products to be used in the TWIC program, they have to undergo independent testing. As an accredited laboratory under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), atsec is qualified to test TWIC readers for conformance with the program requirements. According to Schneider Electric’s executive VP Smart Infrastructure Division Ignacio Gonzalez, "As one of the first vendors to undergo testing for a TWIC reader, Schneider Electric is a pioneer of the new program. atsec has been an excellent partner in the process and their test engineers are highly competent.

NE Tech Launches Shipbuilding Program

The New England Institute of Technology said it will launch a new program for unemployed people in shipbuilding and other maritime high-skill trades, necn.com reported. WPRO-AM reported the program will be based at the school’s campus in Warwick and is due to start this summer. The Shipbuilding/Marine Trades and Advanced Manufacturing Institute’s inception was reportedly made possible by a $2.5 million grant given to the school from the U.S. Dept. of Labor. The institute has its sights on training 400 people in the first three years, and the program already has commitments from employers Electric Boat and Senesco Marine to offer training and jobs to graduates, a spokesman for the school said.  

ConocoPhillips Announces Share Repurchase Program

ConocoPhillips announced a stock repurchase program to repurchase up to $1 billion of the company's common stock over a period of up to two years. This plan is in addition to the existing $1 billion program announced on February 4, 2005, under which the company has repurchased approximately $950 million of its common stock. Consistent with previous guidance, the company will use the new program as a means of offsetting dilution to existing shareholders from the company's stock-based compensation programs. Acquisitions for the share repurchase program will be made at management's discretion at prevailing prices as permitted by securities laws and other legal requirements, and subject to market conditions and other factors.

Holland America Line Creating Marine Protection Awareness

To Build a Global Ocean Refuge System

As part of its “Our Marvelous Oceans” partnership with Marine Conservation Institute, Holland America Line has created a new program that highlights and educates guests and crew about marine protected areas around the world. Developed with the team at Marine Conservation Institute, the program will educate guests and crew through on-board presentations by shipboard personnel. Topics will cover what a marine protected area is and how to visit one without causing harm to the habitat and wildlife. This information can be enhanced through participation in featured shore excursions.

Tidewater to Continue to Repurchase Shares of Common Stock

Tidewater Inc. announced that its Board of Directors has authorized a new program for the Company to spend up to $200 million to repurchase shares of its common stock in open-market or privately-negotiated transactions. The Company intends to use its available cash and, when considered advantageous, borrowings under its revolving credit facility, to fund share repurchases. The repurchase program will end on the earlier of the date that all authorized funds have been expended or June 30, 2008, unless extended by the Board of Directors. Volunteers Needed April 26 for SEA PERCH

The Sea Perch program in are in need of volunteers on April 26 to judge various competition events. The SEAPerch program is a new program in Prince William County Schools. It is a partnership between the Office of Naval Research, The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, MIT SeaGrant, Lockheed Martin, Micron Technology, SAIC, Argon ST and Prince William County Schools. The program is designed to give students enrolled in the Foundations of Technology a business applicable project that will introduce engineering concepts, robotic concepts, naval engineering, design processes, scientific processes and the incorporation of research and composition into engineering. up to volunteer.

EPA Approves VapCor Cleanol HDW1 for ‘Safer Choice’ Program

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has accepted VapCor Cleanol HDW1 into the Safer Choice program. This is a related program to Designed for the Environment (DFE) an environmental program run by the EPA that helps consumers, businesses and purchasers find products that perform well and are safer for human health and the environment. This new program requires a performance criteria and also categorizes the various cleaners by industry and makes different requirements within the category.
