US Announces $59 Million to Spur Biofuels Usage

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $59 million to accelerate the production of biofuels and bioproducts to reduce emissions in industries such as maritime.The department said it is focused on applied research, development and deployment to improve the performance and reduce the cost of biofuel production technologies and scale-up production systems in partnership with industry. "By reducing costs and technical risks, these efforts can help pave the way for the biofuels industry to deploy commercial-scale integrated biorefineries," the DOE said.

Japanese logistics major Mitsui O.S.K. The Liberian Registry said delivery of Wreck Removal Convention certificates is now faster and more convenient for shipowners following the launch if its new online application system. The system was set up to expedite shipowners’ compliance with the requirements of the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks 2007 (WRC), which comes into force on April 14, 2015, requiring owners of vessels of 300 gt and above to carry a certificate as evidence of compliance that insurance or financial security is in place to cover their liability under the convention.

WTO Publishes Annual Package of Trade and Tariff Data

The WTO released on 28 October 2014 new editions of its key statistical publications: International Trade Statistics, Trade Profiles, World Tariff Profiles and Services Profiles. The four publications provide a detailed breakdown of the latest trade developments. International Trade Statistics 2014 provides a detailed overview of world trade up to the end of 2013, covering merchandise and services trade as well as trade measured in value-added terms. A variety of charts illustrate noteworthy trends in global trade while numerous tables provide more detailed data. A chapter on methodology explains how the data are compiled. The publication is available first in electronic format, with a print version to follow in November.

New Crewing Software for HAV Ship Management

CrewInspector.com an online crew management software provider wins the contract to provide HAV Ship Management Kaliningrad with full crew management solution. CrewInspector will provide online crew management database, integrated online application for seafarers and crew payroll software. Crew management system enables crew managers to create seafarer employment contracts, monitor certificate expiry and organize crew planning across the whole fleet thus reducing manual work. BOEMRE Holds Technical Permitting Workshop
