Aegir Opens Office in Turkey

AEGIR-Marine - which provides a wide range of parts and services for stern tube seals, (bow) thrusters, CPP's and azimuth thrusters - expanded its global reach stationing seven service engineers at its new office in Turkey.The new office is located in Pendik Istanbal, opposite the shipyards in Tuzla area. Cox Marine Inks Expansion Deal with UAE Partner Gulf Yachts

Dutch shipowner Spliethoff and AEGIRMarine signed an agreement for the supply the stern tube sealing parts and services for Spliethoff’s fleet.According to its website, Spliethoff is a century-old company that operates a fleet of more than 50 Dutch flagged, 1A ice-classed, multipurpose vessels, ranging from 12,000 to 23,000 DWT.AEGIR‐Marine is a service‐centric stern tube seal producer and service provider. "With our seven regional offices, our service engineers are always close to the action and ready to attend any dry dock within the required time frame,” said Tom Faassen, AEGIR‐Marine.

Bay Shipbuilding Delivers Self-unloading Barge to VTB

Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding has delivered a newly built self-unloading barge to VanEnkevort Tug & Barge for operation on the Great Lakes.The new barge, named Michigan Trader, measures 740 feet in length, 78 feet in beam, and 45 feet in depth. The U.S. Navy’s newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier was launched Monday at Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding yard in Virginia.Following the launch, the Ford Class aircraft carrier John F. The U.S. Navy’s newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) was christened Saturday during a ceremony at Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division.The second aircraft carrier in the Ford Class, John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) is also the second aircraft carrier built by Newport News Shipbuilding named for JFK. Like its forerunner CVN 78, Kennedy is a truly electric aircraft carrier, with many of the systems powered by steam on Nimitz-class carriers now powered by electricity.

PG Flow Solutions Wins VARD Contract

Norway's designer and shipbuilder of specialized vessels VARD has contracted PG Flow Solutions to supply the engine room pump system to the world’s first autonomous and electric container vessel, Yara Birkeland.According to a press note from PG Flow Solutions, the provider of OSV cargo systems and below-deck well service solutions, Norwegian shipyard Vard Brevik has been tasked with building the NOK 250 million vessel on behalf of Oslo-listed international fertilizer producer YARA.Liquid handling and pump specialist PG Flow Solutions will deliver a complete engine room pump system, consisting of coolers – including cooling pumps for the vessel’s battery pack and tunnel thrusters…

WWII Museum’s PT-305 Sails Again

Commercial workboat philanthropy on display on PT-305: WWII Museum’s PT-305 sails again after a far reaching donor-funded restoration. In March, the National WWII Museum in New Orleans launched its reconstructed PT-305, built locally by Higgins Industries in 1943. The museum acquired the boat known as the USS Sudden Jerk in 2007, restoration began in 2009, and it now sails Lake Pontchartrain as an interactive exhibit. PT-305, with a fifteen-man crew, belonged to a 12-ship squadron operating in the Mediterranean from 1944 until the war ended in 1945.

Crowley Orders BWT System Retrofits

Crowley Maritime Corporation has entered into strategic partnership agreement with South Korean-based green technology developer Panasia Co., Ltd. for ballast water treatment systems to be installed during retrofitting of its ATB fleet. The agreement also includes technical services, engineering, integration, commissioning, training, scheduled delivery and spare parts. Panasia GloEn-Patrol treatment system utilizes a filter to remove 50 micron or larger size organisms and medium-pressure UV lamps to disinfect smaller organisms.

WWII Museum’s PT Boat Readies for Passengers

A cadre of volunteers navigate the regulatory labyrinth and a host of safety requirements to bring back to life an enduring symbol the nation’s can-do spirit and resiliency. Early next year, a 78-foot Patrol Torpedo 305 boat, being restored at the National WWII Museum, should be U.S. Coast Guard compliant and ready for passengers. The fast-attack PT-305, equipped with cannons, torpedoes and machine guns, served in the Mediterranean in 1944 and 1945, operating from Bastia, Corsica.

Craig joins Kalmar from Ingersoll Rand where he headed the Industrial Technologies parts and services business for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. Waterjets Manufacturing Comes Stateside

Thrustmaster’s deal with DOEN brings waterjet manufacturing to the United States. Marine propulsion and thruster manufacturer Thrustmaster of Texas, Inc. announced a deal earlier this year to acquire the technology of DOEN, an Australian designer and manufacturer of waterjet propulsion systems. The deal is significant in that it makes Thrustmaster the only producer of commercial waterjets in the United States, helping the Houston-based company to expand upon an already strong line of commercial marine propulsion offerings.

Kirby Corp. Announces Record 3Q Results

Record 2014 third quarter earnings per share of $1.34 compared with $1.21 in the 2013 third quarter, which included a $0.08 benefit due to the reduction of the United earnout liability. Kirby Corporation announced record net earnings attributable to Kirby for the third quarter ended September 30, 2014 of $76.7 million, or $1.34 per share, compared with $69.1 million, or $1.21 per share, for the 2013 third quarter, which included a $0.08 per share benefit due to the reduction of the United earnout liability.
