Wärtsilä to Install Route Exchange on 50 Ships

Wärtsilä Voyage won a contract to update the ECDIS on-board 50 tankers. More than 400 ships already has the capability to share routes through their ECDIS. Wärtsilä Navi-Port Tested for Just-in-time Sailing

Carnival connects entire fleet to STM

Carnival Installs STM

Carnival Corp has implemented Sea Traffic Management (STM) into its fleet management and operations software to share voyage data with ports and other shipping companies. New Maritime Connectivity Platform Launched

The Maritime Connectivity Platform Consortium has been established and a Platform launched last Friday during the conference e-Navigation Underway 2019.The Maritime Connectivity Platform (MCP) is an open source technology a digital maritime domain. It brings common internet standards to maritime navigation and transportation systems.MCP enables infrastructures for efficient, secure, reliable and seamless electronic information exchange among maritime stakeholders using available communication systems. BIMCO Adopts STM-Clause

The the international shipping associations representing shipowners Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) adopted a Sea Traffic Management (STM) Clause-clause for standard contracts.STM Clause is the nine industry actors launched a new common governance initiative, the first shore centre outside a project joined the STM community. The Maritime Cloud becomes Maritime Connectivity Platform

Maritime Connectivity Platform, or MCP, is the new name for what was previously known as the Maritime Cloud. The team behind the Maritime Cloud has decided to change the name of the communication framework. The new name, Maritime Connectivity Platform (MCP), has been chosen to provide clarity and support e-Navigation going from testbed to real life implementation. “MCP is at a level of maturity where we are ready to take it from our project spheres into operational mode. However, before taking that step we felt a strong need to clarify exactly what is being offered and what is being offered is a connectivity platform – not a storage cloud,” he says.

The STM Validation project has installed the first Sea Traffic Management (STM) compatible bridge systems, connecting ships with shore based services and actors. All available functions are said to be working flawlessly, including route optimization and synchronized port calls, as well as sending and receiving route segments ship to ship. The ships equipped are Stena Germanica and two rescue units from Swedish Sea Rescue Society ( SSRS), Rescue Märta Collin and Rescue 11-00. The route message format used…

STM Validation: Interoperable Ship and Shore Center Services

Inspired by the European program for Air Traffic Managemen, the Sea Traffic Management (STM) methodology has been developed by the Swedish Maritime Administration MonaLisa project to define a set of systems and procedures to guide and monitor maritime traffic. The STM Validation project co-financed by the European Union has made the first operational tests with the shore center manufacturers. The key to the interoperability between different systems is the robust underlying infrastructure.

GAC SMHI Weather Solutions for Safer, Efficient Shipping

Forecasts and route planning tools from GAC-SMHI Weather Solutions are playing a key role in a European Union initiative to promote safer and more efficient shipping. The Sea Traffic Management (STM) Validation Project, developed by a European Consortium led by the Swedish Maritime Administration, aims to make merchant shipping safer, smoother and more efficient by tackling the fact that international shipping remains relatively unregulated. The route chosen by a ship is often unknown to other vessels – something which can increase the chances of collisions, near misses, congestion and delays. The STM projects aims to tackle that issue by exploring ways in which routing information and planning can be shared to minimise the risks.

Turkey to Modernize Pakistan’s Subs

The Turkish defense firm Defense Technologies and Engineering (STM) won the tender to modernize Pakistan's submarines against its French competitor DCNS, reports Daily Sabah. STM and Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP) have concluded the deal to upgrade the Pakistan Navy’s three Agosta 90B  (aka Khalid-class) submarines. The upgrade will be carried out in Pakistan. STM noted that the first upgraded submarine will be delivered in “45 months.” This is likely a typo for ‘4-5 months.’ The remaining two, which are currently listed as optional, will be delivered to Pakistan within a year of one another. Available: 300 Free Systems; Wanted: 300 Ships

Which will be the first 300 ships in the world to test and validate Sea Traffic Management (STM) with updated systems free-of-charge? As the shipping domain is takes steps in information technology, the STM Validation Project aims to demonstrate the STM concept in large-scale test beds in both the Nordic and Mediterranean Seas, encompassing around 300 vessels, 10 ports and five shore based service centres as well as using the European Maritime Simulator Network. The predecessor project, MONALISA 2.0, defined a need for validating STM in ports and on board ships supported by service centers on shore. 300 “STM-Systems” will be installed on board ships, developed and installed by ECDIS-manufacturers free-of-charge, and start running live in 2017.

Turkey Completes Ay-class Submarines Upgrade

Turkey has completed upgrades on two Ay-class submarines, contractor STM, an Ankara-based defense technologies company, said. The modernization project comprising renewal of Electronic Support, Attack and Search Periscopes and Inertial Navigation Systems has been carried out by STM as the main contractor and applied successfully on TCG DOĞANAY (S-351) and TCG DOLUNAY (S-352), AY- Class submarines. The project has been started in 2011. The modernization process of TCD DOLUNAY Submarine completed successfully on April 09, 2014 and TCD DOĞANAY’s finished on April 22, 2015 and both submarines has been delivered to the Turkish Naval Forces.

GE Gas Turbines to Power Turkish Corvettes

GE Marine announced it has signed a contract with Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik Ve Ticaret A.Ş. (STM), Ankara, Turkey, whereby GE will provide STM with LM2500 gas turbines. The engines will power the Turkish Navy’s third and fourth MILGEM multi-purpose corvettes, GE reported today during the IDEF ’15 industry trade show. STM is the program manager for these new two ships, and will provide platform systems, construction materials, design services and the main propulsion systems, as well as integration of the propulsion system.

Swedish Icebreaker Tests Traffic Monitoring System

Maritime traffic in the Arctic is rising dramatically, leading to a greater need for safety and environmental protection. Consequently, as part of the icebreaker Oden’s Artic expedition, the Swedish Maritime Administration is testing a new tracking system for maritime traffic. The World Wildlife Fund, WWF, is also positive to the project. The Arctic is one of the world’s most environmentally sensitive areas, while also being one of the most difficult to protect against accidents. Thus, the need to support the maritime industry is crucial in guaranteeing safety for navigation and the environment. The Swedish Maritime Administration is now testing a new system for monitoring maritime traffic that will improve the potential for sea rescue, icebreaker assistance and environmental protection.

New RoRos for Airbus

Höegh Autoliners AS together with Louis Dreyfus Armateurs S.A.S. (LDA) expand their commitments to Airbus by ordering two additional special purpose RoRo carriers for long term employment to Airbus. Höegh Autoliners and LDA have, through a jointly owned French subsidiary, entered into agreements with Airbus for the transportation of A 380 components between Hamburg, Cadiz, Mostyn, St. Nazaire and Bordeaux. The time charters have a duration of 20 years and can be extended by up to 10 more years. The agreements involve the ordering of two advanced RoRo vessels at Singapore Technology Marine (STM). The vessel specifications make them suited to carry both aircraft components and other RoRo cargo.

New Antennas from Sea Tel

Sea Tel has released the first USAT (Ultra Small Aperture Terminal) antenna. Sea Tel announced a smaller, lighter 60 cm antenna system, the first 60 cm marine antenna to meet FCC’s and ETSI’s specification allowing multi mode use with Spread Spectrum, TDMA and SCPC services. The USAT 24 is aimed at Coastal trading vessels and inland craft. Services are currently being Beta trialed with a number of modem providers including Hughes, Viasat, iDirect, and STM on a number of satellite operator’s footprints world-wide. Service in Europe and the US is expected to start in the 4th Quarter of 2008.

NSSL Contracts STM

NSSL has contracted telecom solutions provider STM to deliver, install and support SatLink DVB-RCS hubs on the East and West Coasts of the US, providing coverage of the marine routes frequented by ships in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, U.S. and Pacific waters. The service will use transponder capacity on satellites owned by SES Global and Intelsat. STM will deploy its Maritime SatLink modem, to be used for NSSL's Cruise IP service. The modem enables automatic beam switching during transition from one satellite coverage area to another - a feature that allows ships travelling within any satellite coverage area covered by STM DVB-RCS hubs to automatically obtain service as they leave one area and enter another. NSSL will also install a STM voice gateway at the Hubs.

International Cooperation will Streamline Maritime Transport

Sweden, South Korea and Denmark have initiated a global partnership on the development of e-navigation solutions. Modern technology will lead to higher safety and more efficient transports at sea. The Swedish Maritime Administration is leading the largest European e-navigation project, MONALISA 2.0. The main objective of MONALISA 2.0 is Sea Traffic Management (STM) and to find solutions that will improve dynamic route planning and collaboration, while promoting a common exchange of voyage plan information. Sweden, Denmark and South Korea have now signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement common test beds for future e-navigation solutions. A global test bed is essential to be able to demonstrate the concept of Sea Traffic Management in full scale.
