DNS Appoints Esson, Chief Executive

Decom North Sea (DNS), the representative body for the offshore decommissioning industry, which promotes and facilitates collaboration and cost reduction, today appointed a new chief executive. Roger Esson brings over 20 years’ highly relevant experience as DNS continues to play a critical part in the development of the UK decommissioning sector. Statoil Awards Mariner Contracts to UK Suppliers

Statoil (U.K.) Limited has awarded the maintenance and modification services contract for the Mariner field to Aker Solutions UK. The offshore services contract has been awarded to Stork Technical Services Limited, also based in the UK. Aker Solutions will perform the services for the Mariner field under a five-year contract, anticipated to start in August this year. Stork will commence services in January 2015, also under a five-year term. Both contracts include two 2-year extension options. The Mariner platform is currently under construction and production is scheduled to start in 2017. The contracts will support a significant number of the 700 onshore and offshore positions planned for the Mariner field.

UK Suppliers Win Statoil Contracts

Statoil (UK) Limited has awarded Aker Solutions UK with the maintenance and modification services contract for the Mariner field. Likewise, the offshore services contract was awarded to Stork Technical Services Limited (UK). Aker Solutions will perform the services for the Mariner field under a five-year contract, anticipated to start this August. Stork will begin its services in January 2015, also under a five-year term. Both contracts include two two-year extension options. SBM and MSTS/Falck Safety Services Malaysia Announced Winners

The winners of OPITO’s annual global oil and gas workforce safety awards have been announced in the presence of Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy for the United Arad Emirates. SBM and MSTS/Falck Safety Services Malaysia were yesterday (Tuesday, November 19) named Employer of the Year and Training Provider of the Year respectively at the OPITO Safety and Competency Conference in Abu Dhabi. The global annual awards recognizes companies that best demonstrate their commitment to building a safe and competent workforce through OPITO standards and are presented at the OSCC.

Cortez Subsea Net Significant Contracts

Aberdeen-based subsea services and technology products company Cortez Subsea say they have secured £1.5million of contracts across their range of pipeline installation and decommissioning services following a successful start to Q3 of 2013. The firm has completed the first phase of work on a North Sea FSPO reinforcement programme for contractor DOF Subsea. The £1million contract, for the provision of a powered reel drive system, tensioner and personnel for umbilical and flexible riser installation, includes a second phase which is due to begin later this year.

Stork Technical Services, a global provider of asset integrity management services for the oil and gas, chemical and power sectors, celebrated a year of outstanding safety performance at its first global REACH Annual Safety Awards (Thursday, June 20). The awards recognize Stork employees and teams who, throughout 2012, delivered exceptional safety performance in line with the values of the company’s REACH safety initiative. Around 80 Industry leaders and guests from across the globe attended the ceremony at the Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin, Noordwijk, Netherlands.

WFS and Stork Present Subsea Wireless CP Monitoring System

WFS Technologies and Stork Technical Services present Seatooth Smart CP, the world’s first subsea wireless cathodic protection (CP) monitoring system designed for retrofit to existing fields. Seatooth Smart CP monitors the effects of corrosion by measuring anode current wirelessly in “real-time” using a Seatooth S100 device and a wireless enabled ROV. For both preventive and diagnostic applications, the Seatooth Smart CP system enables wireless monitoring of the condition of the sacrificial anode to verify it is functioning and its rate of depletion.

Double Triumph for Stork Technical Services

Stork Technical Services, a global provider of knowledge-based asset integrity management services for the oil and gas, chemical and power sectors, won two awards at this year’s U.K. Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards. Marc Brankin, Scaffold Chargehand for Stork won The Most Promising Individual category. Stork and bSolutions at Banff and Buchan College jointly won the Innovation in Safety award for establishing an industry-first Temporary Refuge (TR) Testing City and Guilds Qualification. Stork was presented with the accolades on April 24, at the U.K. Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards annual ceremony held at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Center in the U.K.

Industry Talent Recognized in the Offshore Achievement Awards

The offshore industry’s highest achievers were recognized at the 2013 Offshore Achievement Awards, with Malcolm Webb, chief executive of Oil & Gas UK, picking up the Significant Achievement accolade. The 27th awards ceremony, which saw a record attendance of 530 guests, took place at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre and was hosted by Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges. The industry’s top talent was celebrated in categories which included Great Large and Great Small Company, Safety Innovations and Emerging Technology.

Cathodic Protection

Vessels that operate across the globe in waters of varying levels of salinity and temperature are susceptible to corrosion damage. For example, localized pitting can occur on steel or aluminium hull plates and result in the complete penetration of the hull below the waterline. This can render a vessel unseaworthy, meaning it could require drydocking for unscheduled and costly maintenance. Cathodic protection (CP) is a proven, cost-effective and efficient corrosion mitigation solution and is central to almost every hull design.

Stork Technical Services has won the first ever ‘Ideas in Safety’ prize at this year’s UK Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards. Stork’s on-site machining & bolting team received the award for its innovative hot bolt clamp system, which enables the safe removal and replacement of corroded bolts on live flanged connections which have eight bolts or less. The award recognizes an individual or team working on a UKCS offshore facility who have developed an original idea for improving safety in the workplace focusing on hydrocarbon leak reduction.

Stork Technical Services has appointed Dave Workman to the new position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Erik-Jan Bijvank as Senior Vice President (SVP) UK and Africa. Mr Workman and Mr Bijvank will both be based in Aberdeen, UK, which is the operational hub for the company’s upstream oil & gas business, and take on their respective roles with immediate effect. As COO, Mr Workman will oversee all operational matters and help drive Stork’s global growth plans across the company’s four key regions; UK & Africa, Continental Europe, MECAP (Middle East, Caspian, Asia-Pacific) and the Americas.

Stork Technical Services won the ‘Associate Member’ prize at this year’s IADC North Sea Chapter (NSC) Annual Safety Awards. The award recognises an Associate members’ safety achievements over the past year which can include launching schemes to improve safety performance, technical or operational innovations which reduce risk or any notable safety achievements. Stork Technical Services Launches In-House Training Center

Stork Technical Services (Stork) announced the opening of its in-house FM (fabric maintenance) training center at its facility in Aberdeen, UK. Stork invested around £100,000 in the facility to develop the skills of its blasting/spraying operatives working across the UKCS and will. A range of training, including new start trade tests, product familiarisation, passive fire protection and thermally sprayed aluminium, will ensure the company’s blaster/sprayers meet the required standards and competencies prior to mobilisation.

Stork Technical Services Subsea, the subsea division of the leading global provider of knowledge-based asset integrity management services for the oil and gas, chemical and power sectors, today announces it will create 10 new positions and invest £2million in its vessel fleet after securing a raft of new contracts. The contract awards, which total more than £10 million, will see Stork Subsea deliver a range of IRM (integrated inspection, repair and maintenance), light construction and pre & post survey activity for a number of major operators in the UKCS and Mediterranean.

Decommissioning Body Elects New Directors

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil & gas decommissioning forum, held its annual general meeting last night in St Andrews, with 10 new directors elected from across all sectors of the decommissioning industry. The meeting heard that the supply chain body now has 213 fee paying members. Attendees were also given an overview of Decom North Sea activity over the past year and an update on progress against the various strategic objectives. Brian Nixon, Decom North Sea’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have elected a board of experienced directors to Decom North Sea. These industry professionals bring experience and knowledge from various sectors of the industry, which is vitally important for DNS going forward.
