Moller - Maersk's container terminal operating arm APM Terminals announced the expansion of its Maasvlakte II terminal in Rotterdam, increasing the terminal's capacity by approx. 2 million TEU The project involves a site of approximately 47.5 hectares with 1,000 meters of deep-sea quay. The Port of Rotterdam Authority is now constructing the new quay walls, which will be completed by mid-2024. Global leader in offshore wind Ørsted A/S has signed an agreement to divest its liquefied natural gas (LNG) business to the leading global natural resources company Glencore.According to the Denmark's largest energy company, Ørsted entered into a long-term agreement with the Dutch LNG regasification terminal Gate in Rotterdam regarding the right to use 3 billion cubic meters of annual regasification capacity from 2011 to 2031, in December 2007.Today, Ørsted’s LNG business consists of the long-term regasification capacity agreement with the Gate terminal in Rotterdam and five LNG purchase agreements.Even though Ørsted’s LNG team has performed well during the last few years, the business has been loss-making and is projected to remain so for years to come.

Belgium-based Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering NV (DEME) said that its installation vessel ‘Innovation’ will set sail to the Belgian North Sea with the first load of 58 turbine foundations and transition pieces for installation at the SeaMade offshore wind farm.Currently the first monopiles and transition pieces are being loaded at SIF Holdings' Maasvlakte terminal in Rotterdam.With a 487 MW capacity SeaMade is the largest offshore wind farm in Belgium. SeaMade stands for a combination of two offshore wind projects, previously known as Mermaid (235 MW) and Seastar (252 MW).DEME’s scope includes the installation of the 58 foundations and all inter-array cables, the installation of two offshore substations and the 220 kV submarine high voltage cable installation.

Shell said that Europe’s first inland-waterway LNG bunker vessel has carried out its first bunkering operations, providing fuel for the Containerships Polar and Containerships Nord vessels in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.The LNG London (which is owned by LNG Shipping – a cooperation between Victrol and Sogestran) is on long-term charter to Shell. Shipping company Nor Lines has allocated its two LNG-powered multipurpose vessels to a biweekly liner service from the SCA terminal in Rotterdam to the Norwegian coast. Titan LNG, the service supplier of liquefied natural gas, will be supplying the chilled fuel to two Nor Lines' vessels - The MV Kvitnos and the MV Kvitbjørn. The ships are bunkering, like the Wes Amelie, with Titan LNG at the City Terminal in the Prins Willem Alexander harbour (port number 2790). The LNG is delivered to the vessels by trucks. The Port of Rotterdam and Titan LNG have set up the site temporarily to bunker LNG to sea-going vessels until there are sufficient LNG bunker barges available. Nor lines is a fully owned subsidiary of the shipping company Samskip.

Oosterhout Container Terminal (OCT) has now joined the West-Brabant corridor, the partnership launched in February 2018 between deep-sea terminals, inland shipping companies and inland terminals to bundle container cargo on the sailing route between Tilburg, Moerdijk and the Port of Rotterdam. The addition of OCT has resulted in an approximate thirty-percent increase in container volume on this sailing route. In practice, the partnership means that vessels consolidate cargo at different terminals in Moerdijk, Tilburg and Oosterhout for one deep-sea container terminal in Rotterdam or vice versa. Partnership on the main corridors and the bundling of cargo in the hinterland is important in achieving improved vessel capacity usage and reducing waiting times at the terminals.

The new infrastructure will be fully insulated to allow for product temperature control and is designed to prevent any emissions to the environment. Samskip subsidiary Nor Lines will include calls at Rotterdam for the first time in its weekly multipurpose liner service connecting to Western, Mid and Northern Norway, with effect from June 1st. The service is provided by Nor Lines' state of the art, LNG-fuelled vessels MV Kvitnos and MV Kvitbjorn. These flexible ships will sail in 14-day loops, connecting Rotterdam and Eemshaven with Norwegian ports from Hammerfest in the far north, and taking in calls including Sandnes/Tananger, Bergen, Trondheim, Ålesund, Bodo and Tromso. In Rotterdam, the call will be accommodated at the SCA Logistics terminal, whose lay-out, equipment and experience focus on multipurpose vessels, RoRo, Break-bulk and containers can be handled in one place which is essential for this service.

State-run Qatargas on Wednesday agreed a sale and purchase deal with Austrian oil and gas group OMV to deliver up to 1.1 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas annually for five years. From January 2019, the gas will be provided by Qatar Liquefied Gas Co, a venture between Qatar Petroleum and Shell . It will be delivered to the Gate LNG Terminal in the Netherlands on board Qatargas’ chartered LNG vessels. Facing threats to its market share in Europe from a wave of new U.S. supply and in Asia from new Australian plants, Qatar has sealed similar deals with Uniper, RWE Supply and Trading, Centrica and Petronas UK to secure access to northwest European import terminals.

The Netherlands will receive its second-ever liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment from Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass export facility in the United States on Oct. 6, according to shipping data.   The vessel, with a capacity of 166,031 cubic metres, is currently berthed at Sabine Pass, live ship-tracking data shows.   The first delivery from Sabine Pass to the Gate terminal in Rotterdam arrived on June 8 aboard the Arctic Discoverer, a Thomson Reuters analyst said.   Reporting by Oleg Vukmanovic

The port terminal operator division of China COSCO Shipping Corp. posted net profits of  US$384.7 million, an increase of  123.7% for FY 2017, compared with the corresponding period last year. Total throughput of the Group’s container terminals increased by 11.8% to 41,780,867 TEU for the six months ended 30 June 2017 (1H2016: 37,358,210 TEU); of which about 19.3% (1H2016: 21.1%) or 8,046,468 TEU (1H2016: 7,880,362 TEU) were handled by the Group’s subsidiaries; and the remaining 80.7% (1H2016: 78.9%) or 33,734,399 TEU (1H2016: 29,477,848) were handled by the Group’s non-controlling terminals.
