Cargo Biz Grows at Hamburg Port

Germany’s largest universal port, the Port of Hamburg, reported a container throughput of 7 million TEUs for the first three quarters of this year, representing a growth of 6.9 percent year-over-year.The climb in container handling is primarily attributable to the four new transatlantic services, plus four new Baltic feeder services. Since the beginning of the year, the new transatlantic services operated by Hapag-Lloyd and ONE have connected Hamburg with ports in the USA, Canada and Mexico.Hamburg regained market share up of 0.7 percentage points in competition with other major container ports, whose growth averaged 3.4 percent. Hamburg’s Traffic on the Rise in Q1

Germany’s largest universal port is again on a growth path, achieving a distinct advance in the first quarter of 2019 with seaborne cargo throughput ahead by 6.0 percent at 34.6 million tons.Both general cargo throughput at 23.9 million tons - up 5.4 percent- and bulk cargo throughput at 10.7 million tons - up 7.5 percent – rose substantially in the first three months.The gratifying 6.4 percent increase in container handling to 2.3 million TEU is primarily attributable to four liner services new to Hamburg and linking the Hanseatic City with ports in the USA, Canada and Mexico.A total 121,000 TEU for container transport with the USA represented an almost fourfold jump, catapulting the USA into second place among Hamburg’s top trading partners on container traffic.

Partners Extend Ocean Alliance to 2027

Partners in the world’s largest operational agreement between shipping companies have agreed to extend their alliance until 2027.The Ocean Alliance, consisting of CMA CGM Group, COSO SHIPPING, Evergreen and OOCL, was launched in 2017 for an initial period of five years with an option for a five-year renewal.The partners confirmed they will extend to the alliance's full 10-year duration, during a signing ceremony in Hainan, China on Thursday.Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group…

Ocean Alliance Unveils Day 3 Product

The 'Grande Halifax' Christened in Halifax

The Pure Car & Truck Carrier Grande Halifax, owned and operated by the Grimaldi Group, has been christened yesterday in Halifax, New Scotia. Godmother of the new vessel was Ms. Karen Oldfield, President and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority. A ceremony took place at Halterm/Autoport with the presence of a distinguished delegation composed of representatives of civil and maritime authorities, among which the mayor of Halifax Michael Savage, Members of Parliament, the honorary consul of Italy in Halifax Marilisa Benigno, port operators, shippers, managers of the Grimaldi Group and of its daughter company ACL (Atlantic Container Line).

CMA CGM Rolls Out Ocean Alliance Day Two Product

CMA CGM Group, a world leader in maritime transport, is pleased to announce the start of the Ocean Alliance Day Two Product. Ocean Alliance Launches Day Two Product

The Ocean Alliance has launched its new Day Two Product with an estimated 3.6 million TEU carrying capacity provided by approximately 340 containerships deployed on 41 services. The new offering will commence in April 2018. Alliance partners CMA CGM, COSCO, Evergreen and OOCL will offer 20 Transpacific services, six Asia-Europe services, four Asia-Mediterranean services, four Transatlantic services, five Asia-Middle East services and two Asia-Red Sea services. “Ocean Alliance has been a fantastic success from a customer perspective since its launch last spring and we are very enthusiastic to announce our Day Two Product,” said Olivier Nivoix, Senior Vice President Ocean Alliance Lines.

DP World London Now Handles Far East Calls

MOL Triumph, the first of the world’s largest and newest vessels to call in the UK, arrives in Southampton on THE Alliance's FE2 service as new third deep-water berth opened at London Gateway in April, ahead of first regular Asia-Europe service starting. DP World's UK terminals will welcome the first services from the Far East following a global shake-up of the world’s shipping lines. Inaugural calls of Asia/Europe services by THE Alliance, a shipping consortium made up of Mitsui O.S.K Line, Yang Ming, NYK, K-Line and Hapag Lloyd/UASC, will see the largest vessel to ever call at a UK port berth at DP World Southampton this Thursday, May 11.

OCEAN ALLIANCE Sets Out Network

Members of the OCEAN ALLIANCE, COSCO Container Lines, CMA CGM, Evergreen Line and Orient Overseas Container Line,  signed a document entitled the Day One Product, which sets out the proposed OCEAN ALLIANCE’s network, including port rotation for each service loop. The Day One network intends to deploy around 350 container vessels with an estimated total carrying capacity of 3.5 million TEUs to provide one of the most comprehensive service coverage in the market on the following trade lanes. The 23rd Annual International Maritime Hall of Fame reception and awards dinner took place yesterday evening in New York where five individuals were honored in front of more than 350 of their colleagues from the international maritime transportation industry. The Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey founded the Annual International Maritime Hall of Fame in 1993 to recognize maritime visionaries who, through excellence in their company, organization or services, best exemplify the qualities of futuristic thinking that guides the maritime industry.

CMA CGM Launches New TransAtlantic Service

Container Ship Newbuildings: Supply May Outstrip Demand

Ocean carriers have a pool of surplus 8,000-10,000 teu vessels looming ahead unless some thinking ‘outside of the box’ is behind recent newbuild orders, considers Drewry Maritime Research in their latest 'Container Insight'. Ocean carriers have returned to ordering vessels between 8,000-10,000 teu in large numbers, suggesting that either overcapacity is brewing ahead, or unusual service developments are in the pipeline. Shipping Giants Confirm Interest for Haropa

Haropa-Port of Le Havre is in the heart of the new "P3 Network" of shipping lines in Europe scheduled by the world’s three leading shipping lines: MAERSK Line, MSC and CMA-CGM. Haropa-Port of Le Havre gets ahead of its direct competitors for the number of services allocated by the "P3 Network."  Five Asia-Europe services out of the eight will actually be set up in 2014 between Asia and Northern Europe and three transatlantic services. The future services which will call in at Le Havre will offer direct calls to new ports, especially Japanese ports.

Thamesport’s Woes Signal U.K. Ports Shake Up

Following Evergreen’s recent consolidation of its U.K. cargo handling needs at Felixstowe, the news that Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL and NYK intend to switch their transatlantic services to Southampton will leave Thamesport with no deep sea services. Whilst a return of some deep sea traffic might occur, Thamesport appears to be the first casualty of the impending shake up in U.K. deep sea container ports brought about by the combination of bigger ships, larger alliances – and the new London Gateway terminal. Container Service Reliability Falls Again

London, UK, 9th May 2011 –Container service reliability declined for the second quarter in a row during the first quarter of 2011, according to Drewry Maritime Research’s latest Schedule Reliability Insight report. The proportion of the 2,972 vessel calls arriving on time at selected ports around the world during January-March fell back to 51%, down from 55% in the fourth quarter of 2010. The 1Q11 reliability performance was only a percentage point improvement on the on-time score recorded in the same period of 2010.

Nearly all Top 20 Carriers Suffer Reliability Declines, Q4 2010

Following two consecutive increases in the second and third quarters of 2010, container service reliability disappointingly fell back in the fourth quarter, according to Drewry Maritime Research’s latest Schedule Reliability Insight report. The proportion of the 3,027 vessel calls arriving on time at selected ports around the world during October-December decreased to 55%, down from 60% in the third quarter. The 4Q10 reliability performance was slightly better than the 53% on-time score recorded in the same period of 2009. The transpacific trade easily outperformed the other major East-West trades with an on-time percentage of 64%, an exact replica of the trade’s results from 3Q10.

Report: Three Carriers Dominate TransAtlantic Trade

Three new carrier groups now control 58% of the total capacity in the transatlantic container trade, according to World Liner Supply, a new quarterly report from the compairdata.com on-line shipping database. The fourth quarter 2000 issue of World Liner Supply shows that the merger of services and the combination of smaller carrier groups has led to a substantially higher market concentration in the North America/northern Europe container trade. In July, the three largest groups of transatlantic carriers (Grand Alliance, Maersk Sealand and Canada Maritime/Cast/OOCL) controlled 44% of the total trade capacity. CP Ships, FastShip Announce Agreement

CP Ships has signed an agreement with FastShip to assume commercial and marketing management for FastShip's TransAtlantic services. London-based CP Ships is the TransAtlantic's largest container service operator with twelve separate loops, and the seventh largest world-wide. CP Ships 3Q Results

CP Ships Limited today announced unaudited operating income for third quarter 2004 of $41 million, up from restated $38 million operating income in third quarter 2003. Net income available to common shareholders was $31 million compared to restated $27 million in the same period 2003. Basic earnings per share was $0.34 compared with restated $0.30 in third quarter 2003. EBITDA(A) was $72 million compared to restated $67 million in third quarter 2003. Free cash flow (B) was $95 million for third quarter 2004 and $130 million for January through September 2004. Volume of 578,000 teu was another quarterly record and was up 4% from third quarter last year, driven by growth in the TransAtlantic and Asia.

P L Maneschi, Chairman of Lloyd Triestino di Navigazione SpA, has announced that with effect from 1March 1, the name of the shipping company will be changed to Italia Marittima SpA and will be known by the acronym ITS. Mr Maneschi said the new name Italia Marittima SpA reflects the company's ambitions to strengthen its Italian national identity worldwide whilst recognising almost 170 years' presence of Lloyd Triestino in the international shipping market. At the time the shipping company was established, on 2 August 1836 , Trieste and the port were part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and the original name of the company was Oesterreicher Lloyd. On 3 January 1919 , shortly after World War I, the name changed to Lloyd Triestino.
