Port Milwaukee said it is seeking proposals from prospective tenants for development at its South Shore Cruise Dock.This waterfront five-acre site, located immediately east of the Lake Express High Speed Ferry terminal, is available for development of recreational, entertainment, tourism, cultural, passenger vessel and public access uses. Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) hired alumnus Captain Gordon ‘Mac’ MacArthur to serve as master aboard the Training Ship State of Maine.With more than 30 years of experience in the maritime field, MacArthur served most recently as a Senior Dynamic Positioning Officer for Diamond Offshore Drilling, where he monitored environmental conditions, assisted in incident investigation and analysis, maintained and tested equipment, and managed personnel aboard offshore drilling vessels. Prior to joining Diamond, MacArthur served as Chief Mate and Master with Seadrill.

Gulf Island Fabrication (GIFI), an American manufacturer of specialized structures and marine vessels used in the energy sector, announced that it received an award for the construction of two additional towing, salvage and rescue ships (T-ATS) for the U.S. Navy.The award represents the Navy’s execution of its second and third options for Gulf Island’s construction of three T-ATS vessels that will be built in the Company’s shipyard in Houma, Louisiana. Russian aluminum giant Rusal has stopped placing orders with two logistics firms that ship its exports, executives with the firms said on Tuesday, in a sign of deepening problems for the company after it was hit by U.S. sanctions.Rusal and its major shareholder Oleg Deripaska were included on a U.S. sanctions blacklist this month, leading to anxiety among many of its customers, suppliers and creditors who fear they too could be hit by sanctions through association with the company.A number of traders and customers of Rusal's aluminum have stopped buying the firm's products…

Russia's largest freight container operator, TransContainer said on Tuesday Russian aluminium giant Rusal had suspended exports through TransContainer's system after Rusal was hit by U.S. sanctions "They (Rusal) do not know what to do yet, what is going on with them; that is why all transportation operations are suspended," TransContainer's chief executive Petr Baskakov told reporters in Moscow on Tuesday.According to his estimate, Rusal had been shipping 25-30 percent of its exports via TransContainer.

Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company has put into commissioning four dry cargo vessels that will operate beyond the pale of the Caspian Sea, reports AzerNews. An event to raise Azerbaijan`s state flag in the “Vagif”, “Sabir” “Huseyn Cavid” and “General Hazi Aslanov” vessels was held at the Tersan shipyard in Yalova region of Turkey on June 11. Caspian Shipping Company has also opened its office in Istanbul within the framework of the event. The number of dry cargo vessels of Caspian Shipping Company operating outside the Caspian Sea currently amounts to 11. New ships with the deadweight of 5,490 tons and breadth of 16.5 meters were constructed in Russia. The ships will be involved in the freight transportation operations in the Black and Mediterranean seas.

West Calcasieu Port officials have awarded a $1.6 million construction contract to Orion Marine Construction, Inc. for the replacement of bulkheading along the port’s waterfront on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. “The West Cal Port Board of Commissioners was impressed with the strong interest and participation in the highly competitive bidding process on the part of the marine construction industry,” said West Calcasieu Port Director Lynn Hohensee. The bids were formally opened during a special port board meeting earlier in March. “Incorporated in the construction project plan is the replacement of aged, deteriorated bulkhead with new steel bulkhead,” Hohensee explained.

Foss Maritime Builds New Ice-Class Tugs as it embarks on a new Arctic Challenge. To support growing Arctic business, Seattle-based Foss Maritime Company is building three ocean-going tugs at its Rainier Shipyard in Oregon on the Columbia River. These 132 feet-long, Ice Class vessels will have strengthened hulls designed to withstand the harsh, Arctic climate conditions into which they will eventually be deployed. Work on the tugs began in July, and the first in the series will be delivered in December 2014.
