CMR to Supply CCTV Systems for Newbuild Semi-Submersibles

Marine automation and instrumentation specialists CMR Group said it has secured an order from industrial conglomerate Kongsberg Maritime AS for new closed-circuit television (CCTV) video surveillance systems for two new semi-submersible heavy lift, construction and accommodation vessels. The deal, which includes spare parts and maintenance support, will see the supply and installation of CCTV systems for the OOS Serooskerke and OOS Walcheren, which are being built for China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co. Ltd. (CMHI).

GOST, Phantom Rescue Fight to end Child trafficking

GOST Donates EZ-Tracker for 'Impossible Dream'

GOST System Tracks Stolen Boat in Abacos

GOST (Global Ocean Security Technologies), celebrating its 10th year as a world leader in marine security, tracking, monitoring and video surveillance systems, announced today the successful recovery of a stolen vessel in the Bahamas. On April 10, 2015, a 32-foot Contender equipped with the GOST NT-Evolution 2.0 security tracking system was stolen out of the Abaco area of the Bahamas. The system immediately sent out a Geofence Breach track, sending position reports from the boat. Unfortunately the system that triggers the siren and strobe was disarmed as the boat was in the process of being serviced. The GOST system tracked the vessel to a nearby island where it was ditched due to mechanical failure on one of the 350 Yamaha engines.

CLIA Welcome 'Whodunit' Proposals

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) commend the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Legal Committee's proposals for on-board crime procedures. The International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Legal Committee recently adopted a proposal which CLIA co-sponsored on international standards for crime reporting, cooperation between governments, evidence preservation and care for victims. CLIA first offered the proposal to the IMO in 2011, marking the continuation of the Association's efforts to have such standards adopted globally. In addition to CLIA, other co-sponsors were the United Kingdom, the International Federation of Shipmaster's Associations, and the International Association of Airport and Seaport Police. The proposal was also supported by the United States.

New Navy Contracts

Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc., Pittsburgh, Pa., is being awarded a $605,030,234 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-07-C-2102) for additional naval nuclear propulsion components. Work will be performed in Pittsburgh, Pa. (68 percent) and Schenectady, N.Y. (32 percent). Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. PORT SECURITY: Status Report since 9/11

This article focuses on the necessity to craft an effective network system while meeting the government's objectives in the basic rules for security and surveillance of Ports throughout America. This approach explores, from a programmatic perspective, the notion that dealing with the safety issues facing Homeland Security can be successfully accomplished only if technology interconnects the various agencies defending our Ports. It should be noted that system integration can be achieved with technology that exists today, incorporating wireless and broadband services through a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to which all United States Administrators of Defense will have access. As primary commerce hubs, ports are obvious targets for crime and terrorism. One of the primary tools that port security directors have relied on for security is video surveillance. The approach of recording video, reviewing the tape for improprieties apprehending the offender has worked somewhat for run-of-the-mill criminal activity. With today's threat from terrorism, however, this approach is no longer acceptable. The latest trend in port security focuses on implementing an enterprise approach in which all of port's sensor technologies including video, chemical, fire and others are linked together through information technology into a single, smart command center.
