Kreuz Subsea Wins 5-vessel Contract in India

Subsea services provider Kreuz Subsea said it has been awarded a contract to deliver subsea completion work for Indian multi-national conglomerate, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) from the start of 2018. The contract, worth an undisclosed eight-figure sum, will see Kreuz Subsea support L&T to install all riser clamps, risers, crossing works, tie-ins, subsea trenching and hydro-testing of pipelines which are part of the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation’s (ONGC) Pipeline Replacement Project (PRP4) and Daman Field development projects off the west coast of India.

The U.S. Navy has some spectacular vessels, from submarines to high speed RIBs. They also have dedicated ports and support facilities worldwide. A practical reality of all of this is that the Navy requires efficient and handy boats to support the warhorses. To meet this requirement John Myers of the naval architect firm Hockema & Whalen and Associates have developed a 30 by 15-foot tug with a 5.5-foot draft. Currently the Navy has 24 of these tugs, designated Work Boat Medium, on order from Modutech Marine Inc. of Tacoma, Wash.

Great Lakes Shipyard Awarded Contract for Work Barges by USACE

Great Lakes Shipyard in Cleveland has been awarded a new construction contract by the United States Army Corps of Engineers for two 38-foot work barges, the company announced today. The two new steel work barges will be used by USACE Rock Island District as a working platform to perform maintenance and inspections of lock and dam 11 and  14 on the Upper Mississippi River. The barges will be 38-foot long by 14-foot wide and 3-foot deep. The stern of the vessel will include a transom for mounting an outboard motor to power the vessel.

MacGregor has secured a winch package contract from Nam Cheong Limited group, a global offshore marine player listed on the Main Board of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited and Malaysia's largest offshore support vessel builder. Eight-point MacGregor mooring systems, with a 150-metric-ton line pull/270-metric-ton brake holding capacity, tugger winches and capstans have been specified for two new 500-men accommodation work barges being built at the yard. An option remains for two more barges. The 123-meter barges are scheduled for delivery in 2016.

Strategic Marine to Build Barge for Energy Sector

Perth-based ship building company Strategic Marine has won a contract to supply a 88.5-ft work barge to service the energy and resources sector in Western Australia's north-west. The vessel, being built for Karratha business Offshore Plant Hire, will be based in the Port of Dampier and be chartered to marine operations company Bhagwan Marine. It will service the areas around Dampier, Onslow and Barrow Island and be used primarily for port upgrades, construction support, mooring maintenance and shallow water dive perations.

Bristol Harbor Designs for New York Power Authority

Bristol Harbor Group, Inc., (BHGI), has reached the final design phase for an 80-ft x 34-ft x 5-ft Pedestal Crane Barge design for The New York Power Authority, (NYPA). The Pedestal Crane Barge, also known as a “Floating Crane,” is currently under construction at Great Lakes Shipyard in Cleveland, OH, where BHGI is also providing construction oversight services. BHGI began by conducting an initial on-site investigation of the ice boom, and the existing Ice Boom Work Barge, HAVASU - currently in use as a work platform for NYPA personnel during install & removal of the Lake Erie Ice Boom. This investigation included a detailed review of the HAVASU, current retrieval and removal procedures, and deviations considered for the new barge.

Barge hits bridge in Port of Tampa

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., is trying to find the owner of a 60-ft. work barge that struck the northbound lanes of the Howard Frankland Bridge, Interstate 275. The barge has two markings, MB54 and Jacksonville. It is believed that the barge broke free of its moorings due to the high winds and seas of Tropical Storm Alberto. Officials are working to find the owner of the barge and remove the barge from causing further damage to the bridge. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Florida Highway Patrol and the Tampa Police Department are working together to assess the damage. The bridge is now open to traffic with only the right lane closed for bridge workers. The barge is carrying no cargo and there have been no injuries.

Fugro Extends Contract with McDermott

  Fugro has been awarded a three-year extension to its existing contracts with McDermott Middle East, Inc. The contract covers the provision of survey, positioning, remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and diving services in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, India and Saudi Arabia. Engineering and construction company McDermott currently operates two major work barges in the region as well as a large number of other support vessels. The agreement continues a long and successful relationship that dates back more than 35 years, since Fugro and McDermott started operations in the Middle East.

Fairmount Sherpa Delivers Accommodation Barge

Tug Fairmount Sherpa has delivered accommodation barge Ayang 2 offshore Angola. The barge was towed from Romania to a location offshore Porto Amboim. The Ayang 2 is an accommodation and work barge owned by the offshore division of Korean group Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. The 115-meter-long and 32-meter- wide barge, which can accommodate over 350 people, had undergone an upgrading at DSME’s Romanian shipyard in Mangalia, located at the Black Sea coast. For this towage job Fairmount Marine was contracted by Daewoo’s logistics team.

Coast Guard Responds to Spill

The Coast Guard, Harris County Pollution Control, Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Kemah Fire Department and Texas General Land Office are working together to contain and clean up an oil spill in Nassau Bay near Clear Lake, Texas. A tug boat owned by Payne Brothers Inc., sank Sunday night while connected to a work barge. The partially submerged tug has leaked approximately 75 gallons of waste oil into the water. The tug is still leaking a small amount of oil. To prevent the spill from spreading, containment and absorbent booms have been set up around the tug and barge. However, three hundred feet of marsh across from the tug has been affected by the oil. Response crews are using absorbent sweeps to clean the marsh. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

Jurong Port - Jetty construction off Stolthaven Terminal

The working period for jetty construction work at Jurong Island, off Stolthaven Terminal, has been extended. The work is now continuing until 30 September 2014. According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Port Marine Notice No. A) 1 deg. 16.518'N / 103 deg. B) 1 deg. 16.413'N / 103 deg. C) 1 deg. 16.495'N / 103 deg. D) 1 deg. 16.578'N / 103 deg. Construction of the proposed Jetty 2 will be carried out by piling barges,crane barges and working barges with the support of tug boats.

SMIT Salvage Get Angola Jack-Up Platform Removal Contract

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) subsidiary SMIT Salvage has been awarded a contract to remove a damaged jack-up platform from the seabed offshore Angola. Including the award of this contract, SMIT Salvage has acquired approximately USD 70 million of work year to date. During its installation in July 2013, the platform suffered a punch-through and subsequently rolled over and sank to a depth of 30 meters. Jetty Construction near Lorong Halus Jetty, Singapore

From 28 November 2014 to 28 May 2015, work will be carried out for the construction of a jetty near Lorong Halus Jetty. Construction of the jetty will be carried out by piling barge, crane barges and work barges with the support of tug boats. Test piles will be installed by using testing method. This is followed by the permanent marine pile which will be installed by the piling barge or crane barges. Reinforcement work will be followed by pile cutting and pile head treatment before the head stock.

TOPAZ Explores Investment in Azerbaijan

A Topaz delegation consisting of Board Directors and Senior Management were in Azerbaijan in the Caspian region to hold discussions with State Oil Company Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). The aim of the meeting was to explore areas of mutual interest and opportunities for investment in the Caspian region. To support the growing offshore oil & gas market Topaz plans significant investments in the building of new offshore support vessels in the Caspian region in the next few years, providing support services to the offshore upstream energy sector. In total Topaz will spend $100m over the next two years expanding its fleet. Currently it operates 70 vessels including offshore supply ships, work barges and ice-breakers.

Donjon’s Tug Fleet Continues to Grow

Donjon Marine, Co., Inc., a global marine services provider based in N.J., announced that Donjon has added the 2,700 hp twin screw tug Sarah Ann (ex-June K) to its expanding tug fleet. The 78 by 26 by 10.5-ft tug, with twin CAT 3512B diesels and a nine-ft draft, was built in 2003 by A&B Shipyard, Amelia, La. Designed principally for ship handling and assist work, barge towing and dredge assist, the tug’s draft is shallow enough to navigate the many creeks and estuaries throughout the Port of New York region.

Costa Concordia – All fuel oil removed

SMIT Salvage successfully completed its assignment on the removal of fuel from the Costa Concordia. Over the last couple of days, the SMIT Salvage diving team was transferring HFO from the last settling tank in the engine room. Early this morning, the last tanks were completed, closed and sealed off. The entire oil removal process which lasted just over one month went smoothly and was executed in line with expectations. Most of the diving and pumping equipment will be demobilized and brought back to Livorno onboard of the crane/work barge Meloria.

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced today that its marine arm, Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine) has secured new orders worth about $344m for its Shiprepair and Engineering business groups in the fourth quarter of 2015. The contracts cover major upgrades, conversion, maintenance and repair of vessels in the naval and commercial segments. These vessels include patrol vessels, pipe-laying vessel, accommodation & work barge, oil & chemical tankers, and a cruise ship. The new orders also included logistics management services. These projects are being carried out in the Singapore facilities, and will be delivered progressively over the next two to six years.

Wind Farm Workers Evacuated from Barge

At 8:26 a.m., the morning of Jan. 30, Liverpool Coastguard were contacted by workers on the work barge UR101 reporting that the barge anchor cables were breaking in heavy seas. The barge had 42 workers onboard and the barge was secured by four anchors, at various times during the night three anchor cables broke leaving the barge secured by only one anchor. A decision was made to evacuate the barge in worsening weather conditions throughout the night. Initially, thirty three workers were evacuated by the barge tug Kingcraig and two support vessels Voe Jarl and Maggy M. The nine remaining workers this morning made a decision that the situation had worsened and for the safety of life contacted the coastguard for assistance.

62 Barges Break Free on Ohio River

More than five dozen barges have reportedly broken free due to ice and high water at two separate locations on the Ohio River. So far 59 of the 62 breakaway barges have been recovered, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, who said it is working alongside the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and industry partners in response to the incidents near Pittsburgh, Pa., and Moundsville, W.Va. By Monday, 34 of the reported 35 breakaway barges from fleeting areas at mile maker 94 near Moundsville have been recovered and secured, while 25 of the 27 breakaway barges from Jack’s Run Fleeting area at mile marker 4 near Pittsburgh have been accounted for, and security video has shown seven of the barges went over Emsworth Lock & Dam.

Port Authority NY/NJ to Rehabilitate Greenville Yard

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has hired HDR to rehabilitate the Greenville Yard in Greenville, N.J., to improve ongoing rail-to-barge-to-rail freight movements across New York Harbor. The work includes rehabilitating a barge and transfer bridge used to move freight rail cars from the yard to the barges, designing a new barge and two new bridges, demolishing two bridges, rehabilitating the rail yard and waterfront structures, and environmental permitting. The project also includes the addition of approximately 10,000 feet of new track and design of yard operations facilities. This project is among improvements to accommodate the larger Panamax freighters that will be in operation with the Panama Canal expansion…

Construction of Changi East Finger Extension

The working period for the construction of Changi East Finger Extension has been extended, GAC said in its daily Hot Port News report. The works will now be conducted from April 25 to October 24, 2014. According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Port Marine Notice No. 50 of 2014, the works will be carried out 24 hours daily - including Sundays and public holidays - off Kuala Johor and its vicinity. The work will entail sand filling, installation of prefabricated vertical drain, vibro-flotation, stone revetment, scouring protection, construction and removal of instrumentation clusters. Installation and removal of silt barricades will be carried out by the work barges. Soil investigation works will be carried out by the jack-up barge within the working area.

Crowley Orders ATB at Bollinger

Crowley Fuels LLC has signed a contract with Bollinger Shipyards for the construction of a new 100,000-barrel-capacity articulated tug-barge (ATB) to transport multiple clean petroleum products in the Alaska market. The Alaska-class vessel will be built at Bollinger Marine Fabricators Shipyard, in Amelia, La., with an expected delivery in the fourth quarter of 2019. The build contract includes an option for a second ATB. Once built and deployed, Crowley will operate the ATB under a long-term charter with Alaska-based Petro Star Inc.…
