Oceaneering to Utilize CapRock IP Xpress

CapRock Services Corp. has contracted with Oceaneering International Inc. for the supply and service of CapRock’s IP Xpress Network aboard OII’s ROV support vessel, the Ocean Service. OII is an advanced technology company that provides engineered products and services to customers who operate in marine, space and other harsh environments. The company sought to improve its vessel communications systems and chose CapRock for improved flexibility and reliability, expanded capabilities and value. The IP Xpress Network, which has the industry-standard Cisco AVVID architecture as its backbone, provides the Ocean Service with four, high-quality voice over IP (VoIP) lines, allowing OII customers to use dedicated lines while aboard the vessel. Additionally, customers have Internet access and phone numbers that can be changed on the fly, enabling new numbers to be created as required. The network also provides high-speed data connectivity. The crew can quickly transmit data, maps, pictures and other information. Because the Ocean Service works in the Gulf of Mexico, dispatching a communications technician takes time. With the IP Xpress Network, the entire system can be provisioned from CapRock’s network operating center (NOC). Phone numbers can be changed, new data circuit routings completed or new features added without requiring an on-site technician. “The setup aboard the Ocean Service exemplifies the IP Xpress Network’s capabilities,” said CapRock Services Corp.
