Washington State Ferries will be returning to Sidney, British Columbia on Sunday, April 2, after a 12-week winter hiatus. To celebrate the reopening of the route, the ferry system and the City of Anacortes Chamber of Commerce are hosting a special event on Sunday featuring the sister cities of Anacortes and Sidney as well as unveiling the ferry system’s 2006 commemorative poster.

Alex Young, a local artist known for his ferry art, has featured the Sidney Terminal and the International ferry, the M/V Elwha, in this year’s 2006 poster, entitled “Ferry between Friends.” Upon arrival at Sidney, there will be a brief ceremony to mark the return of the Anacortes/Sidney route. Mayor Dean Maxwell of the City of Anacortes and Mayor Don Amos of the town of Sidney, B.C., as well as other dignitaries and citizens from both sides of the border, will be part of the celebration.
