Nigeria: Navy Concludes Plans On Local Shipbuilding

The Nigerian Navy has announced that it was making plans to commence shipbuilding locally in the nearest future with a view to meeting with capacity demands of the nation's maritime industry. According to the Naval Dockyard boss, although the naval Dockyard was yet to build ship locally, there were future plans towards that effect with a view to boosting activities along the Mediterranean. Rear Admiral Jonah who spoke on sundry issues including the reasons for Nigeria presence at the oil rich gulf of Guinea, said the gulf is part of the country and therefore the Navy have a need, both socially, economically and political to protect the regions. The Nigerian Navy Dockyard boss further said that plans to upgrade facilities to meet with future challenges with a view to enhancing capacity building as well as development of ship building to meet with capacity demands of the maritime industry is one of the future plans that has to manifest.
