Pure Thinking: From Green to Blue

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 23, 2011

Alfa Laval’s Marine Essentials on display at Nor-Shipping: Alfa Laval will be showcasing a range of innovative solutions at the Nor-Shipping trade fair in Oslo, which will take place 24–27 May 2011. Alfa Laval cover a wide range of marine activities, but have a common theme: lower environmental impact and lifecycle cost.

Green used to be the environmental watchword, but blue is now taking over. Over 70% of our planet is blue, and water management and conservation are becoming the critical issues worldwide. Thinking blue means seeing our environment in a wider context, where water affects everything. Solutions that put this thinking into practice help to ensure profound and lasting ecological benefits. That’s the focus of Alfa Laval’s Marine Essentials technologies.

Alfa Laval will be shedding a different light on many of its solutions at this year’s Nor-Shipping exhibition. In addition to learning about key launches, visitors will be able to explore essential aspects of Alfa Laval’s core technologies and the difference they make –both for onboard applications and for the environment.

Exhibition highlights will include:

• S separator
The new blue landmark S separator from Alfa Laval combines proven advantages with a wide range of technical developments. The result is 20% lower energy consumption, 35% lower oil losses, a 15% lower lifecycle cost, and a 15% smaller footprint.

• PureBallast 2.0
Alfa Laval’s revolutionary system for ballast water treatment has now entered its second generation, also available as EX-proof. Energy consumption has been greatly reduced, and there are many other improvements that contribute to easier operation.

• PureBilge BlueBox Data Recorder
A fully automatic, tamper proof bilge data recorder with visuALog software. The system records oil ppm levels, GPS position, separator operation, full alarm log, overboard valve position and overboard flow data.

• PreBilge
A new centrifugal separation system that works in cooperation with an already installed bilge water treatment system, providing an effective and economical performance boost.

• AQUA
A revolutionary freshwater generator that halves the amount of seawater required –which means reduced pumping needs, energy consumption and CO2 production.

• Alfa Laval AOT 3F
Alfa Laval’s new AOT 3F sterilizer provides chemical-free water purification and an effective microbiological barrier against Legionella. It is based on Wallenius Advanced Oxidation Technology (AOT), a water purification system that imitates nature's own way of purifying water. The innovative sterilizer is cost and energy efficient, handling heavy-duty demands despite its low weight and small footprint.

• And more…
Other solutions on show will include ACS (Advanced cooling system) chiller control box, plate heat exchanger plates featuring an innovative coating, Gunclean Toftejorg i40 D and i40S cleaner heads with nozzles, and cost-reducing F 350 lube oil filter.

• Alfa Laval will also present its parts and service offering to meet customers’ demands on uptime, availability and optimization.

Displaying the essentials

The exhibition space will emphasize Alfa Laval’s ability to bring out the valuable essence in media and to create additional value within the process itself. A wide range of advances will be on display, including small but ingenious finesses that can make all the difference in the bigger picture. More about these essential solutions can already be found on the new Alfa Laval Marine industry web pages at www.alfalaval.com/marine.
