August 17, 2007

Engine Room CBT, a set of computer based training software for marine engineers from PC Maritime, has been enhanced with the addition of three new modules. Engine Room CBT provides a combination of simulator and multimedia training on a wide variety of engine room plant and machinery. The revised version now consists of a library of 28 individual training modules, which cover extensively the subject of marine power plant equipment. The three new modules are: Marine air-conditioning system, EcoStream oily water separation and Basics of hydraulics.

The modules benefit from the expertise of academics who understand procedural training requirements and targets and have more than 15 years’ experience in using simulation programs. Engine Room CBT has been type approved to STCW 95 and a typical module consists of four parts:

· A description of the application’s working principles and main components of the installation.

· Operating instructions containing step-by-step descriptions including preparations for starting the plant, automatic and manual control functioning, and shutting down.

· A test to assess the trainee’s knowledge gained during the first two parts of the module, consisting of randomly selected questions to ensure they vary every time the test is conducted.

· An interactive simulator of how to set the valves on the installation diagram, start the pumps and compressors etc by operating the switches and buttons on the panel, putting theoretical knowledge into practice.
