Crowley Triples Bonded Warehouse Space

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

August 7, 2013

To better serve the needs of local shippers, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Panama liner and logistics teams have relocated to a new, shared location in the heart of the country’s capital, just minutes from Panama City’s major highways, airport and seaport. The facility offers triple the warehouse and distribution space and makes Crowley the first bonded facility in the heart of the capital city, and the only company with the ability to serve both bonded and nationalized cargo in the same warehouse.

Crowley customers now have access to a fully Customs-bonded, 25,300 square-foot warehouse with eight dock doors, increasing the company’s efficiency in receiving and delivering cargo; a 38,426 square foot container yard; and a business office staffed with knowledgeable Crowley representatives who can serve as a single point of contact for shippers and consignees who are importing to and exporting from the country. The facility also offers dedicated capacity for both bonded and non-bonded cargo, integrated communication and data interchange systems, along with a permanent fire and security system.

It is located within a corporate and industrial park (Parque Sur), which is a fast-growing liner and logistics hub close to the city's Corredor Sur highway, a major connection to Tocumen International Airport, among other important roadways and key business partners.

“Our new warehouse and distribution center at Parque Sur is unlike any other,” said Crowley’s Miguel Artiga, vice president of logistics, Central America. “In addition to being the only company in the area that can handle nationalized and bonded cargo, our proximity to major transportation arteries gives us the capability to offer faster and more efficient services for local shippers. Coupling these advantages with the full suite of Crowley’s liner and logistics services truly makes the company a one-stop-shop for customers.”

In addition to regular liner shipping services, which are offered twice weekly, from to and from Colon, customers can now take advantage several services, including, air freight; multi-factory/country consolidation and deconsolidation; cross-docking; re-labeling/re-packing; sorting/pick and pack; inventory control; traffic and documentation; Customs clearance/brokerage; and local and regional distribution services from this new joint liner and logistics facility.
The liner team, which will maintain its terminal at the Port of Colon, will now use the shared space as its main operating hub, under the direction of Crowley’s Ruben Karamanites, general manager, liner services, Panama. This alignment of businesses reinforces the total capabilities Crowley can now offer customers with a single point of contact.

The new facility is located at Parque Industrial y Corporativo Sur, S.A. Avenida Domingo Diaz y Corredor Sur Corregimiento de Tocumen, Distrito de Panamá.
