Propeller buffing is a new technique that aims to keep propellers in optimum condition. The process is not conventional propeller polishing, but a service developed and delivered only by Hydrex. Routine propeller buffing can save 5% from the fuel bill, Hydrex said, adding that the service is very easy to schedule and carry out regularly. This offers extraordinary ROI in terms of instant fuel savings. Very low outlay for very high returns and an extremely rapid payback.

Additionally, propeller boss cap fins (PBCF) from MOL can be installed by Hydrex divers anywhere, any time. This device is custom made by MOL for a ship’s propeller, and according to Hydrex, can save an additional 5% of fuel costs. There is a lead time of a couple of months for the PBCF to be custom made for the ship, but Hydrex can install the new PBCF as soon as it’s ready, brining fuel savings immediately.

Hydrex said these two simple, easy and inexpensive steps together can save a combined 10% of fuel costs.
