Royal Caribean Names Rob Zeiger VP, Global Communications Officer
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has named Rob Zeiger to the position of vice president, global chief communications officer. Zeiger is responsible for leading Royal Caribbean’s overall communications, corporate social responsibility, public relations and corporate positioning strategies. He reports directly to the company’s chairman and CEO, Richard D. Fain. Zeiger has more than 25 years’ experience in media relations, corporate reputation and issues and crisis management.
Senator Dick Durbinn to Receive Waterways Council Award
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) will receive the 12th Annual Waterways Council, Inc. Leadership Service Award on March 19, 2013 at the Loews Madison Hotel in Washington, DC. Capt. Graham Westgarth, who becomes a non-executive Seagull Director, has over 40 years industry experience including 18 years at sea (five years as a Ship’s Master). From 2001 to 2010, he was responsible for Teekay’s 5,000 sea and shore staff and the technical management of 200 vessels, as the company extended beyond its conventional tanker interests to shuttle tankers, FPSOs, FSOs and LNG vessels.
Super Cranes Arrive in Britain
Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) was called on to act as agent for the arrival of the first giant cranes at the UK’s new global container port, DP World’s London Gateway. As the largest quay cranes in Britain, bigger than the London Eye and weighing 2,000 tons each, ISS arranged the complex operation of easing the heavy-lift vessel operated by Shanghai Zhenhua Shipping Co, the Zhen Hua 26, onto the berth ready to start the delicate process of discharging the leviathans.

Headhunter Installs Sewage Treatment Plant on AET Tankers
Headhunter, Inc. completed installation of the company’s Tidalwave HMX sewage treatment plant on the first of two specially outfitted Aframax tankers owned by AET Tanker Holdings of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The two Aframax tankers have been chartered for 20 years to Marine Well Containment Company of Houston, Texas. The Tidalwave HMX systems are USCG-certified and Bureau Veritas-approved to IMO MEPC 159(55) standards.

Ship Fire Safety Still Serious Concern: Paris MOU Survey
Preliminary results from the Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Fire Safety Systems, underline fire safety concerns. The results are based on the CIC survey carried out between 1 September 2012 and 30 November 2012 in the Paris MoU region. 103 ships were detained over the 3 month period as a direct result of the CIC for deficiencies related to Fire Safety Systems. 64% of all ships detained in the three month period were detained for fire safety related issues.
