Conrad Industries 2013 Profit Slip Ameliorated by New Business
Morgan City, Louisiana, shipbuilder and ship repairer Conrad Industries, has announced its fourth quarter and twelve months 2013 financial result, adding that it has acquired new business during the first quarter of 2014 totalling $67.3 million. For the quarter ended December 31, 2013, Conrad had net income of $10.1 million and earnings per diluted share of $1.70 compared to net income of $8.0 million and earnings per diluted share of $1.33 during the fourth quarter of 2012.
GD Bath Iron Works Gets Navy DDG1000 Contract Modification

Singapore based marine service provider for the offshore oil and gas industry, Swissco Holdings Limited, informs it has entered into a definitive Sale and Purchase Agreement for the S$285.0 million acquisition of Scott and English Energy Pte. Ltd. which will enable Swissco to move into the offshore rig chartering business. Swissco adds that the SPA was signed with Double Dragon Energy Holdings Limited for the acquisition of the entire issued and paid-up share capital in Scott and English.
Brazil Shipyard Delivers Second RAmparts Tugboat
Designers Robert Allan inform that Keppel Singmarine Brasil Ltda. (KSMB), of Navegantes, Brazil have recently completed the construction of the 24m LOA 'SMIT Pareci', the second of a series of six Robert Allan designed RAmparts 2500 tugs, for SMIT Rebocadores do Brasil (Rebras), of Rio de Janeiro. Named the GLDD302 (ESG Hull 252), the ATB Tug detailed engineering is being performed by Ship’s Architect, Inc. and the GLDD151 (ESG Hull 253), the ATB Dredge Barge by Bay Engineering, Inc. Several Cruise Voyages Altered by Houston Spill
The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) issued a notice to cruise passengers affected by the Houston ship channel oil spill stating that several cruise voyages have been altered or rescheduled. Royal Caribbean International’s Navigator of the Seas seven-night Western Caribbean March 23 sailing was originally cancelled because of an oil spill in Houston harbor, but has decided to go ahead with a shortened four-night cruise.

World’s Largest Reefer Ship at HAROPA-Port du Havre
On March 27 and 28, HAROPA-Port du Havre accommodated the Cap San Lorenzo, a container vessel of 9,600 TEU delivered by Hyundai to the German shipping company Hamburg-Süd. Being the fourth of a series of six vessels of the Cap San class, the Cap San Lorenzo has a reefer capacity of 2,100 plugs on board and 9,600 TEU, which makes that the vessels are the biggest refrigerated containerships in the world.
Harkand Charters Jones Act Vessel for Gulf of Mexico
Global inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM), survey and light construction contractor Harkand has entered into a charter agreement with Hornbeck Offshore for the offshore construction vessel HOS Mystique for a firm period of two years plus options. The 250ft (76.2m) DP2 vessel has a 70 MT AHC crane and will be outfitted with a Harkand Triton XLS ROV to support IRM and survey work in water depths up to 3,000m in the Gulf of Mexico.
Ulstein Enters Oceangoing Tug Market
Ulstein has sold design and equipment packages for four ocean going tugs to Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair in Japan. The vessels will be built for the Dutch company ALP Maritime Services. The vessels are primarily designed for towing of large structures over long distances. This is a new market for Ulstein and the contract represents so far the highest value in one single contract for Ulstein Design & Solutions.
