Sotzing Joins Sea Machines as Engineering Director
Boston-based developer of autonomous vessel technology Sea Machines Robotics has hired Chris Sotzing as director of engineering. Sotzing will be responsible for the development and deployment of the company’s Sea Machines 300 technology system, as well as managing the engineering team. He reports to COO Jim Daly from the Boston office. Sotzing joins Sea Machines from SeeByte, where he served as an engineering manager supporting unmanned vehicle technologies in Boston.
Baltic Index Edges Up to One-month High
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, crept higher on Wednesday to hit a one-month high, supported by stronger demand for smaller vessels. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize shipping vessels, was up 4 points, or 0.34 percent, at 1,192 points, a peak since Jan. 29. It gained about 3.5 percent in February and notched the first gain in three months.

OSM Looks to Boost Mozambique Maritime Education
OSM Maritime Group says it is aiming to make the shipping industry accessible to all as part of its involvement in the UN Global Compact (UNGC) initiative. The ship management company,has signed a MOU to re-launch the Mozambican Higher School of Nautical Sciences. Team Tankers Buys Two Tanker Carriers
Team Tankers International announced that it has entered into share purchase agreements to acquire all outstanding shares in each of Laurin Shipping and Anglo-Atlantic Steamship Company. In combination with associated ship purchases, the total estimated enterprise value of the series of transactions is approximately $206 million. Upon completion of the transactions, Team Tankers will grow its fleet from 37 to 52 vessels.
Golar LNG Partners Updates on Acquisitions
Golar LNG Partners announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire an equity interest in FLNG Hilli Episeyo last year. Equivalent to 50% of the two contracted liquefaction trains, out of a total of four, the common units also include a 5% stake in any future incremental earnings generated by the currently uncontracted expansion capacity but do not include exposure to the oil linked component of Hilli's tolling fee. FLNG Hilli Episeyo arrived in Cameroon in late November.

MOL Unveils Restructuring
Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) plans to undertake a number of changes as part of an organizational restructuring, effective April 1, 2018. MOL said it will establish a liner business management division to “fulfil its management role as one of the major investors in Ocean Network Express (ONE), into which the liner division is being integrated”. The Japanese giant will split tanker operations and a chief financial officer (CFO) appointed for the first time.
Genco Shipping & Trading Announces Fleet Renewal Program
International seaborne drybulk transportation services Genco Shipping & Trading plans to undergo a fleet optimization and renewal plan aimed at modernizing its fleet. As part of this plan, the Company has decided to dispose a total of 15 vessels in its fleet at times and on terms to be determined in the future including vessels it had already decided to dispose of. The plan includes eight Supramax vessels, one Handymax vessel and all of its vessels built in 1999 or earlier.
SeaSafe Marine Wins Höegh Contract
SeaSafe Marine has signed a sole service supplier agreement with Höegh-Wallem Ship Management Inc. to provide services and spares for the lifeboat systems on their fleet’s 38 vessels.
