The Coast Guard received a report of an overturned outrigger canoe with six persons aboard Saturday.

A good Samaritan in the area maintained a visual on the boaters and recovered two of the crewmembers in the water.  Coast Guard Station Golden Gate launched a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat and retrieved the other four crew members.  All six crewmembers were taken back to Station Golden Gate and transferred to local emergency medical technicians where they were reported in stable condition.

The outrigger canoe was participating in the "Round the Rock Alcatraz Challenge".

"The public often acts as the Coast Guard's eyes and ears on the water," said Capt. Michael Day, deputy commander, Coast Guard Sector San Francisco. "The boating public and good Samaritans are essential force multipliers to ensuring safety in the maritime arena.
