SS United States Conservancy Names Landry to Advisory Council

Washington, D.C. – As the 60th anniversary of the SS United States’ launch and record-breaking maiden voyage nears, the SS United States Conservancy announced that cruise industry veteran Joyce Landry has been named to its Advisory Council. 

The CEO of Miami-based Landry & Kling Inc., she is widely recognized as an innovator in the cruise industry.  Landry will lend her more than 30 years of experience to the Conservancy, as momentum builds to save and repurpose America’s flagship.

“We are excited to have someone as experienced and influential in the cruise industry as Joyce Landry on our growing team,” said Susan Gibbs, Executive Director of the SS United States Conservancy.  “Joyce has been at the forefront of using ships for a variety of purposes.  Her guidance will be invaluable as we look to transform the SS United States into a stationary destination, where this iconic vessel and American history can be celebrated by a whole new generation.”

Landry and her business partner, Josephine (Jo) Kling, were the first to specialize in corporate events at sea, also pioneering the use of cruise ships as floating hotels. She has been at the forefront of many projects involving cruise ships as dockside charters, including the 2005 Super Bowl in Jacksonville Florida, the 2007 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies, the 2009 Summit of the Americas in Trinidad. Landry & Kling was recently appointed as exclusive broker by Rio Olympics 2016 to charter ships from U.S.-based cruise lines to serve as supplemental housing during the games.
