Hamburger Lloyd Receives Containership Newbuilding in China

On Tuesday September 10, 2013, Reederei Hamburger Lloyd (RHL) took command of the fourth 4,600 TEU Containership newbuilding (hull No. H1026A) from CSSC Shanghai, Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. In the course of the festive naming ceremony, the vessel was named RHL Calliditas by Bettina Pane, wife of Managing Director of RHL Hauke Pane.

The container vessel RHL Calliditas will enter a time charter for account of CMA CGM, Marseille,on September 20 2013, and will trade between the Far East and West Africa, including South Africa and Sri Lanka, under the command of Captain Oleg Taran.

MV RHL Calliditas is the Hamburg-based shipping company’s 16th vessel. The freshly named ship is 259.80m long, 37.3m wide and carries 57,000 tons at a design draught of 12.5m. She can take 4,620 TEU of cargo, of which 1,856 TEU in the holds and 2,764 on deck, up to seven tiers high. Her homogenous loading capacity amounts to 3,620 TEU à 14 tons. Altogether, there are 600 reefer sockets available on deck, and a 36,240 kW MAN Main Engine, type 8K80ME, allows the GL-classified newbuilding a cruising speed of 23.3 knots.

The Shipping Company Reederei Hamburger Lloyd GmbH & CO KG was founded in 2007 by experienced Merchants and Ship Owners from Hamburg. Today, its head office is still situated in the heart of this North German seaport.

Reederei Hamburger Lloyd manages a fleet of top-modern container ships, all certified according to ISM (International Safety Management). The vessels put into operation since the company’s foundation has so far all been built under the supervision of Germanischer Lloyd (GL).

In 2008, Hamburger Lloyd was the first tramp shipping company worldwide to commission four so-called “4.600 TEU wide-beam container ships” from the Chinese Shanghai Shipyard and Jiangnan Shipyard. The first two newbuildings, RHL Conscientia and RHL Concordia, were put into service in 2012 as state-of-the-art container vessels. The two other units, RHL Constantiaand RHL Calliditas, were handed over in 2013.
