The IMO issued a Circular providing guidance to masters, companies, and duly authorized officers on requirements relating to submission of security-related information prior to entry of a ship into port. This effort is intended to prevent the proliferation of different demands for security-related information, which are neither conducive to the enhancement of maritime security nor promote the facilitation of maritime traffic. Note: with agencies of the U.S. government unable to agree among themselves on a common set of reporting data, the likelihood of getting the federal government to adopt this guidance is near zero.
