Divers to Inspect Hoegh Osaka Hull

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

January 13, 2015

A window of clear weather and reasonably calm waters in the Solent will enable two new pumps to be installed aboard car carrier vessel Hoegh Osaka, which remains held in position at anchor on the Alpha Anchorage, the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) reported. Additionally, if the weather continues to be favorable, divers will be able to inspect the hull.

According to MCA, salvors will use a dedicated helicopter to transport them to and from the ship.

The tug damaged in the contact incident during the bad weather last the weekend has been repaired and is back on scene.

Activity on scene is likely to be curtailed tomorrow as the forecast for strengthening winds is expected to peak between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday, MCA said.

Salvors are confident that the strong winds should not present a problem for holding the ship in place with the anchor and three tugs connected and extensive contingency plans for any unexpected ship movements.
