Jastram Cylinders Receive ABS Type Approval

Jastram Engineering has been granted ABS Type Approval status for its Model S hydraulic steering cylinders. Installed mainly on workboats, supply vessels and tankers - to name a few, the cylinders are designed with the commercial marine hydraulic steering service in mind under the ABS Approval. Jastram also offers custom design and engineering support to customers upgrading their existing steering systems so that they are in compliance with current marine safety standards and classification societies.

ABS Broadens Type Approval Coverage for SubM

ABS, a leading provider of classification and technical services to the marine and offshore industries, has expanded its Type Approval product certification process to allow original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to meet compliance with 46 CFR Subchapter M Regulations. “As the inland maritime industry begins preparing for Subchapter M compliance, owners and yards are looking for easy ways to find equipment that meets Subchapter M requirements,” says ABS Americas Division President Jamie Smith.

Innova to Build Monitors for L-3 Communications

Innova Receives Type Approval From ABS

Innova Electronics received Type Approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). ABS Type Approval certifies that the product has been designed, constructed and is maintained in accordance with the rules and standards of the classification body. To obtain certification, Innova met ABS requirements in drawing assessment, prototype testing, assessment of the product manufacturing quality control and quality assurance arrangements, and routine surveillance of the manufacturing process.

ABS Type Approval for Hyde Guardian

Hyde Marine, Inc. announced that its Hyde GUARDIAN ballast water treatment system (BWTS) received Type Approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) on September 13, 2011. Hyde GUARDIAN was the first BWTS to receive Product Design Assessment (PDA) certification from ABS in April 2010. PDA is the technical approval for equipment and is the first step in receiving ABS Type Approval. Founded in 1862, ABS is a leading international classification society devoted to promoting the security of life, property and the marine environment through the development and verification of standards for the design, construction and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities.

Comark Receives ABS Type Approval

 47” Series of MDU Marine Display

Comark Corporation, a leader in the design and manufacture of ruggedized computer solutions for the marine, military, and commercial markets, has received Type Approval on their 47” Series of MDU Marine Displays from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). Type Approval is given to products for marine and offshore applications that are designed and tested, and can be consistently manufactured, to meet IEC 60945 Standards for Maritime Navigation and Radio Communication Equipment and Systems.

Dresser Gets ABS Fire Rated Approval from

Dresser has been granted ABS Type Approval for fire rated couplings that meet or exceed the previous 2008 ABS rule changes. Typical applications for the ABS approved Dresser coupling include above deck inert gas lines, cargo oil lines, bilge systems, fuel oil transfers, and lube oil transfer systems. Each authentic Dresser approved coupling can be qualified to a working pressure of 19.2bar (275 PSI). Fire testing has been successfully conducted to the stringent guidelines of ISO 19921 & 19922 requirements. GlobalSantaFe New-build Rigs Provide Model for Requirements

Technical advances in the offshore industry and regulatory developments have spurred an update of the ABS Guide for Certification of Drilling Systems. First published in 1985 and last updated in 1990, the Guide references current standards and the recommendations of American Petroleum Institute (API). Importantly, the new Guide provides industry with an option for a “Safety Case” or risk-based analysis approach to certification, rather than applying the more traditional prescriptive rules reflected in the 1990 version of the Guide, says Merih Unuvar, ABS project leader and principal surveyor. “We’re offering drilling unit owners and builders a more streamlined approach to ABS classification, with the option of certifying the drilling system,” said Unuvar.

US Fuel Management System Gets Canadian Patent Protection

Nautical Control Solutions' (NCS) FuelTrax marine fuel management system now patent protected by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. Marine Fuel Management system has been granted Canada patent number 2,588,654 for “'Apparatus and Method for Fuel Measurement and Accountability”'. The onboard, ABS Type Approved FuelTrax system along with the shore-side FuelNet™ web-based reporting tool helps improve the performance of vessels through tighter management controls, accurate fuel accountability, and optimized vessel operations. FuelTrax monitors fuel flow, captures fuel burn rates, can measure and alarm fuel tank levels, and proves bunker quantities and densities.

Comark Corp New Panel Mount Computers

Comark Corporation, designer and manufacturer of ruggedized custom computer solutions for the marine and military markets expanded its portfolio of display and computer solutions by announcing the availability of the MDU PC Panel Mount Computer Series. Deepwater mooring specialist, First Subsea Ltd has been awarded a contract by Technip Inc to supply the subsea mooring connectors for a 23,000-ton truss spar platform moored in 5,310ft (1,620 m) of water in Anadarko Petroleum Corp's Heidelberg field development in Green Canyon Blocks 859, 860,903, 904 and 948 in the Gulf of Mexico.
