DOF Awarded Subsea Work off West Africa

Norway-based DOF Group on Monday announced it has been awarded a contract for one of its vessels offshore West Africa.The deal will see DOF's construction support vessel (CSV) Skandi Acergy support operations to install subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) for an unnamed "tier 1 contractor and operator" in West Africa, DOF said. The 156.9-meter-long vessel was built in 2008.DOF labeled the contract as "significant", worth between $80 million and $100 million. DOF Subsea Clinches Multiple Contracts in Oil & Gas, Renewables Sectors

Subsea services provider DOF Subsea said Tuesday it had won several new contracts in both the oil and gas and renewables sectors in the North Sea.The projects, to be delivered in 2022, total more than 185 vessel days excluding any optional work. Skandi Acergy, Skandi Constructor, Skandi Hera and selected third-party vessels will be utilised in the offshore execution phases. DOF Subsea Secures Work for Skandi Acergy, Skandi Constructor Vessels

Norway-based offshore vessel owner DOF Subsea has secured a contract extension for the Skandi Acergy construction support vessel. It has also won a new contract in Trinidad and Tobago for the Skandi Constructor vessel.For the Skandi Acergy, DOF said Friday that "a key renewables client" had awarded an extension to an ongoing subsea construction contract in the North Sea."In direct continuation of the ongoing project, Skandi Acergy shall be further utilized up to 169 vessel days," DOF Subsea said, without sharing the identity of the client. Acergy Viking to be Converted to Hybrid Propulsion

Eidesvik said it plans to upgrade its offshore wind support vessel Acergy Viking with a battery pack and hybrid propulsion solution, in line with the Norwegian vessel operator's plans to reduce its fleet’s emissions by 50% by 2030 and to operate emissions-free by 2050.The conversion of the 14-year-old vessel will be completed in the first quarter of 2022. With hybrid propulsion, the 97.6-meter ship is expected to reduce diesel consumption (MGO) by up to 350 tonnes per year, with a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 1,000 tonnes per year, Eidesvik said.“Eidesvik took an active role in the development of a battery solution for ships already in 2006.

Flurry of Charters for DOF Subsea

Offshore vessel operator DOF Subsea has said it has secured several new contracts in the North Sea, Mediterranean, and Africa, however, without sharing the clients' identity.DOF Subsea said Friday that contracted work included a number of turnkey subsea projects within its core service lines - Survey, Inspection, Maintenance & Repair (IMR) and Construction.The vessels Skandi Acergy, Skandi Skansen, Skandi Neptune, and Skandi Seven will be used to deliver work totaling more than 180 vessel days excluding any options.All works under the new contracts are expected to be carried out between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the second quarter of 2021."All awards include Project Management…

Subsea 7 to Cut 3000 Jobs, Reduce Vessel Fleet

Offshore installation and construction specialist Subsea 7 will cut 3000 jobs by 2021, and reduce its active vessel fleet, it said in a statement on Thursday.Subsea 7 a month ago said that with the deterioration in the outlook for new oil and gas awards, it would "resize" the business to save $400 million in annual cash costs by the second quarter of 2021.It on Thursday said: "It is envisaged that the overall reduction in headcount would be approximately 3,000 from the global workforce of 12,000, by the end of the second quarter 2021.

Early Termination for DOF's Skandi Acergy. More Work for Two Other Vessels

Geoquip Marine Names Laloe as Director

Switzerland-headquartered  geotechnical engineering and offshore drilling company Geoquip Marine has announced the appointment of industry veteran Jean-Luc Laloe to its Board of Directors.Jean-Luc, who has almost 40 years of experience in the offshore oil and gas industry, has joined as an independent non-Executive Director.Jean-Luc originally entered the Offshore Engineering and Construction industry in 1980 and in the course of his career he has worked with Technip, Stolt Offshore, and Acergy /Subsea 7. Subsea 7 Teams up with OneSubsea

Subsea 7 and Houston-based OneSubsea have announced the signing a global alliance agreement to combine resources and collaborate on selected projects. The firms will jointly design, develop and deliver integrated subsea development solutions. OneSubsea is owned by Cameron and Schlumberger. The alliance will bring together Subsea 7’s experience and technology in seabed to surface engineering, construction and life-of-field services with OneSubsea’s unique reservoir expertise and state-of-the-art subsea production and processing systems technologies. The alliance will combine both companies’ resources to collaborate on selected projects, engaging early to improve field development planning from the reservoir to the production facility.

Brazil Offshore: Petrobras & Subsea Engineering

Brazil’s Petrobras has been one of the leading players in deepwater, subsea development projects since the turn of the century. These projects include pre-salt and post-salt plays, which require extensive and complex subsea engineering and construction efforts. It would be impossible for Petrobras to develop all of its projects alone, therefore much is done by specialized companies, mostly of foreign origin. “We could not have advanced in this project (pre-salt) conventionally, developing the production individually. We needed a global vision of the projects, starting from a high level plan,” said José Formigli, Petrobras’ Executive Director of E&P, speaking of the primary plan for the development of the pre-salt at the Santos Basin, the Plansal, which was created in 2008.

UK's A&P North East Dry-docks Fully Booked to Year's End

A&P North East shipyard announces that the Subsea7 vessels 'Acergy Discovery' and 'Rockwater 1' will be dry-docked at the company's Tyne facility in November and December 2013. For the Acergy Discovery the main SOW covers thruster overhaul and general maintenance. The Rockwater 1 SOW covers thruster overhaul, lifeboat servicing, ballast repairs and deck maintenance. The shipyard adds that the continued business from Subsea7 shows that the relationship between the companies is a strong one, that they value the clients repeat business and will continue to support their operations in the future.

Bibby Offshore Appoints New Commercial Director

Aberdeen-based subsea installation contractor Bibby Offshore has appointed Nicky Etherson as its new commercial director to help facilitate the company’s ambitious growth plans. Ms. Etherson joins the business with almost 20 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, having previously held the position of head of contracts for Total E&P UK Limited. Here she was responsible for managing all aspects of the contracts function, supported by a team of 15 personnel, covering a range of services including; drilling, well control, subsea support, logistics and topside operations.

Flexlife, the subsea flexible pipes specialist, has strengthened its management organization with two senior appointments. Simon Hounsome joins Flexlife’s Aberdeen headquarters as integrity and projects director, responsible for the policy, strategy and technical services delivered globally from the firm’s Aberdeen, Newcastle and Houston offices. Mr. Hounsome brings more than 20 years’ oil and gas experience in construction projects and operations management. Most recently he worked at JP Kenny, where he held the position of business manager – operations support.

Harkand Makes Several Senior Appointments

Harkand strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of three senior figures as the company embarks on the next stage in its growth strategy. Kevin Gorman has joined as vice president of HR. One of two new newly created group positions, his appointment will allow Harkand to strengthen its capacity as it looks to grow its current 750-strong global workforce. He is joined by new group general counsel Colin Forbes. John Ewen has been appointed general manager for Harkand ISS, which serves Europe, Harkand’s largest region. All three posts will be based in Aberdeen.

Reef Subsea Announce Management Changes

Mark Preece is to step down as CEO of the Reef Subsea Group by mutual agreement. The board has acknowledged and thanked Mr. Preece for his efforts in developing and positioning Reef Subsea as a strong subsea contractor in the oil and gas and offshore wind farm sectors. Duncan MacPherson, the current managing director of Reef Subsea Norway, will assume the interim role of CEO for the Reef Subsea Group. Prior to joining Reef Subsea, Mr. MacPherson was an executive VP of DOF Subsea and general manager in DOF Subsea Norway. Meanwhile, Mel Fitzgerald has been appointed board chairman. Mr. Fitzgerald has been involved in the oil industry since he joined Brown and Root in 1974 as a Project Engineer and has worked in a number of positions and locations.

Ecosse Subsea Systems’ Growing Engineering Division

Energy technology company, Ecosse Subsea Systems, (ESS) has increased the size of its engineering division in response to client demand for specialist engineering packages. Aberdeen-based ESS specialises in trenching, deepwater installation and subsea lifting technologies for the oil and gas, marine and renewable industries, and has a range of patented technologies in development. The new division will complement ESS’ well established consultancy service and will  be headed up by chartered engineers David Hunt and Faris Lutfy.

Fairmount Summit Towed Acergy Polaris to Gabon

Fairmount Marine’s tug Fairmount Summit has towed heavy lift barge Acergy Polaris from Brazil to Gabon. The Acergy Polaris, owned by Subsea 7, is a multipurpose barge for heavy lift activities in deepwater fields. The barge, equipped with pipelay tower, heavy lift crane and accommodation, has a length of 137 meters and is almost 40 meter wide. The Fairmount Summit, which just had delivered the semi submersible drilling rig Delba III in Brazil, was mobilized towards a location offshore Rio de Janeiro.

Strong Response to New Sub-Sea Pipeline Leak Detection System

Chelsea Technologies Group announced this week a significant increase in both sale and rental contracts for the 2011 Model Sub-Sea Pipeline Leak Detection System. The PLD system now includes the provision of digital output on all fluorimeters  operating these systems, and alignment of power requirements allowing easy integration to common ROV platforms. Systems are now on offer for both shallow (ROV mounted and diver held) and full ocean depth operations. RBG Completes Rigid-Hulled Inflation Boat for Chevron

RBG, provider of fabric maintenance and construction support to the global energy industry, has completed a contract worth approximately $616,100 for Acergy, for the provision of Rigid-Hulled Inflation Boat (RHIB) dive services and project support. RBG was commissioned to support the removal and replacement of one of the fairleads from the Chevron Upstream Europe (Chevron) owned Captain FPSO. Deployed from the Acergy-chartered vessel, Far Saga, combined activities included diving, installation of subsea rigging and ROV services.

Foran used for Diving Support Vessel

Foran was the CAD/CAM system used for the engineering of the Acergy Havila Project, a new Diving Support Vessel (DSV) built after the agreement between Acergy and Havila Shipping. As there were many companies involved in the project, different subcontractors have acquired the new FCM module, which is a Foran solution developed by SENER for visualization and checking purposes. The Acergy Havila Project will be the DSV specifically designed for efficient diving operations in the harshest environments.

IMCA’s Central & South America Officials Elected

The first Chairman and Vice Chairman for the Central & South America Section of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) have been elected. Giorgio Martelli from Saipem is Chairman of the Section and Gilles Lafaye from Acergy is its Vice Chairman.   The new section, formed in 2009 and host of the IMCA Annual Seminar in Rio de Janeiro in November 2009, provides a forum for members to address local issues, network and both learn about and contribute to the association's global work program.
