GE’s First IMO Tier III Marine Diesel Engines Ordered
Bastø Fosen has placed an order for eight of GE Marine’s International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III compliant marine diesel engines for new and repowered vessels. The order, which includes six eight-cylinder in-line engines for three new ferries and two 16-cylinder V engines to repower two existing vessels, Bastø I and Bastø II, will see Bastø Fosen be among the first customers in Northern Europe to operate GE’s diesel engines that meet IMO Tier III emissions standards without Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) aftertreatment or urea injection.
Two US Firms Collaborate on SCR Design
Tenneco and Cormetech sign agreement to design marine engine ultra-large diameter selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalysts. The MARPOL Annex VI and EPA Tier IV regulations require an 80% reduction in NOx emissions, thus driving the need for engines to include aftertreatment strategies such as SCR. Tenneco’s SCR solution, incorporating the Cormetech catalyst, will be designed to help the marine industry comply with the new emission regulations. “Tenneco is an established leader in designing and developing diesel aftertreatment solutions, supplying commercial vehicle and engine manufacturers globally,” said Tim Jackson, Tenneco chief technology officer. “For more than 20 years, Cormetech has provided reliable state-of-the-art SCR catalyst for the reduction of NOx emissions.
First phase of DNV GL Led Offshore Cable and Pipeline Project completed
The first phase of the DNV GL’s Joint Industry Project (JIP) which focuses on the development of a new design and certification standard for equipment for pipeline and cable offshore operations has been completed. "The JIP, focussing on the development of a new design and certification standard for equipment for pipeline and cable offshore operations, aims to reduce uncertainty, cost, increase efficiency and safety throughout the lifecycle of the equipment," said a press release.
New Cummins Tier 4 Diesel Engines Hit the Market
Cummins Power Generation launched two new diesel G-drive engines from 240-433 horsepower that are certified to meet EPA Tier 4 Final emissions regulations for nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM or soot) without the use of a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Instead, the new engines employ a combination of in-cylinder combustion improvements, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust aftertreatment. These new engines are suitable for powering generators from 150-300kVA.
MTU Shows SMM it's Ready for IMO Tier lll
The Rolls-Royce brand MTU is showing its concepts at the current SMM, Hamburg, in response to the IMO Tier III emission standard which is due to come into force in 2016. “MTU is well-prepared for IMO Tier III, be it with SCR exhaust aftertreatment systems for diesel engines or with gas engines,” explains Dr. Michael Haidinger, Chief Sales Officer at Rolls-Royce Power Systems. New Large Engine SCR Systems Debuts at Workboat
Tenneco (NYSE: TEN) has announced that it has introduced a complete urea dosing control, fluid handling and catalyst solution for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment, enabling large engines to meet EPA Tier IV and IMO Tier III regulations. New MTU Engines Make Their Debut
At the international maritime exhibition Nor-Shipping in Oslo from May 30 to June 2 2017, MTU, part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, presented its propulsion and systems portfolio, primarily for offshore supply vessels, workboats and ferries. MTU, Fairplay to Test Diesel Genset with SCR for IMO Tier III
The Rolls-Royce brand MTU and Fairplay Towage are to test an MTU diesel genset with SCR exhaust aftertreatment in a harbor tug in order to verify compliance with IMO Tier III emission requirements that come into force as of 2016.
