On Monday, September 8, 2025, Meyer Turku Shipyard celebrated the keel laying of the fourth cruise ship in the Icon Class. The ship, built for Royal Caribbean and known by its working name Icon 4, has thus progressed to the hull assembly phase. The traditional ceremony held at the bottom of the building dock included a symbolic ceremony in which representatives of the customer, the classification society and the shipyard placed coins under the first steel block to bring good luck and protection to the ship.

The construction of the next cruise ship for Disney Cruise Line has reached another milestone: assembly of the ship's hull began today with the traditional keel-laying ceremony. Harland & Wolff has secured a contract with Canada-based Cenovus Energy for the mid-life upgrade of the SeaRose FPSO vessel. The base contract value is approximately £61 million (~currently around $74 million). The FPSO is expected to arrive at Harland & Wolff in Belfast in the first quarter of 2024 and will be in the building dock for a period of more than three months.The contract follows a letter of intent announced earlier this year, and a number of pre-arrival works have already started…

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has floated out its latest newbuild, a 183,200 GT cruise ship for Carnival Cruise Line.Carnival Jubilee left the yard's covered building dock on Friday and was moored at a pier in the shipyard harbor for outfitting. On Saturday, the ship briefly cast off from the pier for its bow thrusters and stabilizers could be tested.The RINA-classed ship is 344.5 meters long, with capacity for 5,228 passengers in 2,626 passenger cabins, plus 1,551 crew. It has 20 decks and an onboard roller coaster.Originally ordered for Carnival Corp.

The 185,000-gt cruis ships Carnival Celebration was floated out to the outfitting keel at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, with the LNG-powered ship marking the culmination of Carnival Cruise Lines 50th birthday. The float-out started on Friday morning local time with the opening of the building dock valves and will culminate over the weekend. “The Float out marks the beginning of a very intensive phase in the ships construction, as the inside features and venues start taking form.

Philly Shipyard on Friday hosted a keel laying ceremony for the first of up to five new purpose built, state-of-the-art training vessels for America’s state maritime academies.The new vessels—known as National Security Multi-Mission Vessels (NSMV)—will be owned and operated by U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) and are designed to provide training for America’s future mariners and to support humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions in times of need.

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has floated out its latest newbuilding, the liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered AIDAcosma, for Carnival's AIDA Cruises.The 337-meter-long vessel is the sister ship of the AIDAnova, which Meyer Werft completed in 2018 as the world's first cruise ship to run entirely on LNG.Having left Meyer Werft's covered building dock II (Hall 6), the newbuild is now moored at the outfitting pier in the shipyard harbor, where the masts and funnel will be lifted onto the ship by crane and assembled, and the interior outfitting will be completed.

Viking Line's flagship Viking Glory was floated out from its building dock at XSI Shipyard in Xiamen, China, on Tuesday.The new 222.6-meter, 63,800gt ro-pax vessel is due to enter service on the Stockholm-Åland-Turku route in early 2022. German shipbuilder Meyer Werft floated out Spirit of Adventure, the second new cruise ship it has built for British company Saga Cruises.The 58,250 GT cruise ship left the shipyard's covered building dock I (hall 5) on Friday, allowing the funnel to be lifted onto the ship by crane and mounted. Norwegian shipbuilder Meyer Werft announced that Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)'s newest cruise ship Norwegian Encore will most likely be leaving the covered building dock II on 17 August 2019.The ship has a rating of 169,145 GRT and measures 333.46 m in length and 41.4 m in width, with capacity for 4,004 passengers.The ship built for the American cruise shipping company NCL will start to leave the dock at around 8 a.m, it said. The largest shipbuilder in Europe Fincantieri has floated Princess Cruises’ new Enchanted Princess out of the building dock at its yard in Monfalcone, Italy.The Italian shipbuilding company based in Trieste said in a press release that interior fittings will now begin, leading the fifth Royal-class ship to its delivery, scheduled in 2020.The ceremony was attended by Firouz Mal, Princess Cruises director new build services, while Fincantieri was represented, among others, by Roberto Olivari, director of the shipyard in Monfalcone. Spectrum of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s newest ship designed specifically for the Chinese market, has left Meyer Werft’s covered building dock II.The ship has a rating of 169,300 GT and measures 347.75 m in length and 41.4 m in width, with ca-pacity for 4,188 passengers.Spectrum of the Seas will berth at the shipyard's out-fitting pier to be fitted with its funnel cladding. The U.S.-based shipbuilder reported operating revenues and other income for Q3 were USD $26.5 million, compared to USD $200.8 illion in Q3 2017.The firm also forecast that the ongoing Matson vessel newbuilding projects would be a loss making project.The firm further expects that it will suffer significant losses in 2018 and 2019.Ongoing WorkHull 029 production activities continue to progress in the Commissioning Dock and sea trials are expected to occur next month. Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL),  India's largest public sector shipyard, has filed  initial public offering (IPO)document with  the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)  to go public. The government approved a stake sale of up to 25 percent. Cochin Shipyard IPO will consist of 34 million shares to raise about INR 1,400-1,500 crore (USD 214 - 229 million). On completion of a successful IPO, CSL will become the first of five state-owned shipbuilding companies to be publicly listed. It has filed a draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with SEBI. The company, which built India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, the INS Vikrant, is looking to raise funds to set up new construction and repair facilities.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s first cruise ship custom designed for China has been floated out of Meyer Werft’s covered building dock II on March 4 in Papenburg, Germany, where the 168,800-gross-ton ship has been under construction since September 2015. Beginning early Saturday morning, the 3,850 passenger vessel, Norwegian Joy, departed building dock II. Now well on its way to completion, the 324-meter-long and 41.4-meter-wide Norwegian Joy will move into the final phase of construction ahead of its April 27, 2017 delivery.

The 168,800 gt cruise ship Norwegian Joy currently being built by MEYER WERFT is scheduled to float out of the builder’s covered building dock II on March 4, 2017, pending weather conditions.   With the 324-meter-long, 41.4-meter-long-wide ship being berthed at the yard's pier, the remaining work and tests and trials will be carried out in the next few days.   Norwegian Joy will travel down the river Ems toward the North Sea, where she will undergo sea trials in the end of March 2017.

The assembly of TUI Cruises ship Mein Schiff 6 at Meyer Turku shipyard started today 25.4.2016 with the laying of the first grandblock in the big building dock. When ready in 2017, Mein Schiff 6 will be a fourth high-technology cruise ship being built in Turku shipyard for TUI Cruises and marks the continuation of good cooperation between the two companies. Following old traditions of the shipyard coins were placed under the keel block to bring luck for the ship. Representatives of TUI Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Meyer Turku and the classification society Det Norske Veritas, invited guests, and members of the press joined the event.

Construction on the hull of an icebreaking multipurpose supply vessel for Sovcomflot began today at the Arctech Helsinki shipyard with a keel laying ceremony. The vessel is the first in a series of four icebreaking sister ships ordered by Sovcomflot, Russia’s largest shipping company. The vessel’s first block, which weighs 221 tons, was placed in the building dock, signaling the starting point of the hull assembly. The vessel, which will measure 100 meters in length and 21 meters in breadth, will be capable of breaking through ice even as thick as 1.5 meters and will be outfitted for emergency evacuation, rescue and fire fighting operations, oil spill response and platform support activities.

After almost nine months of construction has MS "Helgoland" the new LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) ship of Cassen Eils from Cuxhaven, left the building dock of the Fassmer-Werft shipyard. Helgoland will be the first German flagged marine vessel to operate on LNG as its primary fuel. After the testing of systemically important components of the innovative LNG-drive in the port and sea operation will be carried out. Fassmer designed and built the MS Helgoland, Germany’s first passenger ferry with a dual-fuel propulsion system. The vessel is 83 meters long, 12.6 meters wide and has a draught of 3.6 meters, and a capacity of more than 1,180 passengers. The new LNG-drive has a capacity of 5,000 KW and brings with it 20 knots maximum.

The latest cruise ship under construction - Anthem of the Seas - will leave building dock II of Meyer Werft shipyard in Northwestern Germany on February 21. The 168.600-gt cruise ship Anthem of the Seas, one of the largest cruise ship in the world, is schedule to leave the shipyard's covered building dock early morning around 07.00 am. The ship is bing built for U.S. cruise operator Royal Caribbean International. Following the float-out, the Anthem of the Seas will be berthed alongside the yard's pier for one night, before being turned on 22 February for the thruster and stabilizer tests in the yard's harbour.
