Global offshore wind energy market was valued at $2,727 thousand in 2019, and is expected to reach $11,334 thousand by 2025, registering a CAGR of +20% from 2019 to 2025, said a study.The global offshore wind energy market has been set blazing with a number of schemes that have recently began power production, according to Researchnreports. Danish wind power giant Orsted sees surge in earnings from offshore wind, driving interim profits up 14 percent and earnings up 32 percent  for the first nine months of 2018.The world’s largest wind farm operator, formerly known as Dong Energy said that the positive results are due to its transition to a 100 percent green power business and with its third quarter financial results revealing a surge in earnings from offshore wind and a jump in its green share of generation. "Our green share of generation increased from 59% to 71%," said a statement.Danish energy group  said operating profits for the first nine months of 2018 were up 14 per cent to DKK10.8bn ($1.65bn)…

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Vestas Wind Systems (Vestas) have appointed Philippe Kavafyan to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Lars Bondo Krogsgaard to Co-Chief Executive Officer (Co-CEO) of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. The appointments will take effect on 1 April, 2018, and are made in accordance with the joint venture agreement's principle of changing its leadership every four years. Under the leadership of out-going CEO Jens Tommerup and Co-CEO Tetsushi Mizuno, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has established itself as a leading player in offshore, with orders from the UK, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. The descendants of Danish scientist Hans Christian Orsted will take legal action on Friday against one of Denmark's biggest companies over its decision to change its name to Orsted, their lawyer said. DONG Energy, the world's largest developer of offshore wind farms, in October renamed itself Orsted as part of its shift to renewable energy from oil and gas. DONG was short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas. It said the new name, chosen from more than 3,000 alternatives, was inspired by 19th century Danish physicist Hans Christian Orsted, who discovered electromagnetism.

DONG Energy has chosen Esvagt as partner in establishing the first offshore wind farm to break the 1 gigawatt barrier; the 1,200 mW offshore wind farm, Hornsea 1, off Grimsby in the UK sector of the North Sea. The 'Esvagt Castor’ will work as standby vessel and man overboard rescue vessel during the building of the offshore wind farm, which currently consists of a meteorological mast and half a dozen buoys and which, in 2020, will supply CO2 neutral power to around 850,000 homes. “Activity levels in the offshore wind farm are expected to be high in the years to come while the wind farm is being established. We were chosen because of our ability to launch FRBs and rescue people in all weather conditions.

UK Electronic Solutions, (part of the NSSLGlobal group), said it has signed a contract with Dalby Offshore to install its motion and impact monitoring system, Oceanic Dynamics, on an additional three crew transfer vessels (CTVs). This follows a successful trial of the system on board Dalby Offshore’s largest CTV, the Dalby Ouse. Dalby Offshore’s 10-strong fleet primarily supports offshore wind farms, working with companies such as VBMS, SSE Dong Energy, Siemens and RWE Statoil, to move equipment and engineering crews as required. At 26 meters long, the Dalby Ouse catamaran is not only the largest CTV in Dalby’s fleet, it also has the largest engines and waterjets of any CTV in the U.K.

Following the profound strategic transformation from black to green energy and the recent divestment of the upstream oil and gas production, the name DONG Energy does not fit the company anymore. Consequently, DONG Energy has today called an Extraordinary General Meeting to ask the shareholders of the company to approve a change of the company name to Ørsted. Thomas Thune Andersen, Chairman of the Board of Directors, says: “DONG was originally short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas. With our profound strategic transformation and the divestment of our upstream oil and gas business, this is no longer who we are. “Our vision is a world that runs entirely on green energy.

Offshore wind industry services provider CWind said it has been awarded a contract by DONG Energy, to install new and retrofit existing gates on the transition pieces (TPs) at the Gode Wind and Borkum Riffgrund offshore wind farms, located in the North Sea off the coast of Northern Germany. CWind, which is part of the Global Marine Group and delivers the company’s power capabilities, will use its crew transfer vessels, assets and engineering expertise to help complete the project.

An offshore wind project in the U.S. mid-Atlantic is moving forward, as project owner Dominion Energy Virginia has signed an agreement and strategic partnership with DONG Energy to build two 6-megawatt turbines 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. The two companies will now begin refining agreements for engineering, procurement and construction. Dominion Energy remains the sole owner of the project. CWind, a provider of services to the offshore wind industry, informs that DONG Energy, one of the key energy groups in Northern Europe, has granted CWind a two-year extension to its existing three-year Crew Transfer Vessel contract at the West of Duddon Sands Offshore Wind Farm in the Irish Sea. CWind, the offshore power focused business of Global Marine Group (GMG), will provide vessels for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) to the 108-turbine West of Duddon Sands site, including a summer campaign to ensure the site remains operating at peak performance throughout the busier summer months.

Oil companies are interested in restarting the hunt for oil and gas in the scarcely explored seas off the Faroe Islands neighbouring the more mature UK North Sea, the head of the Faroese Geological Survey said. No economically viable discoveries have been made on the Faroese shelf but the tiny nation hopes to entice energy firms to restart exploration as it shows them new geological data in London on Wednesday. "Oil firms have in many ways shown interest. We are having meetings, they buy data from us, visit us on the Faroe Islands ... So there is an interest and they are looking at the possibilities," survey director Niels Christian Nolsoe said.

Turkish shipyard, Cemre Marin Endüstri A.Ş, has ordered 4 × MAN 8L21/31 variable-speed GenSets, in connection with the construction of a wind service operation vessel (WSOV) for Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA), the French shipowner. The newbuilding will also feature MAN’s EPROX (Energy Saving Electric Propulsion System) that will reduce the vessel’s CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. The MAN engines will be prepared for IMO Tier III and set up such that they can be retrofitted at a later time with MAN’s state-of-the-art SCR system. This is to cater for the possibility that IMO TIER III NOx emission limits be introduced without obligation within NOx emission-control areas (NECAs) in the North and Baltic Seas before 2021.

Norwegian offshore vessel owner Solstad Offshore has entered into contracts with Dong Energy Wind Power for two of its construction support vessels (CSVs).   The first contract will see the CSV Rem Installer work for Dong Energy for a period of 23 months firm with a further six months option.   A second Solstad vessel will start working for Dong in April 2018 for a seven-month period, with an option for an additional eight months.   “The contract with DONG Energy Power is a strategically important contract for Solstad Offshore in the company’s continued commitment to the renewable energy segments,” the company said in a release.   The commercial terms of the deals have not been disclosed by the two companies.

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs  Group (LDA) said it has ordered a wind farm service operation vessel (SOV) from Cemre shipyard in Turkey. The vessel will be delivered in Q4 2018 and chartered to DONG Energy Wind Power A/S for operations at four wind farms off the German coast (Borkum Riffgrund 1&2, Gode Wind 1&2). The vessel has been designed in cooperation with Salt Ship Design to enable technicians to perform maintenance on wind turbines. The ship has an accommodation capacity of a minimum of 60 technicians (in addition to the crew)…

DONG Energy has decided to retire “Vindeby”, the world’s first offshore wind farm, which 25 years ago marked the birth of the offshore wind industry. Today, offshore wind is a recognised and proven renewable energy technology, and the offshore wind turbines harvest the energy from the wind, transforming it into green power for millions of households. But it is actually only some 25 years ago that the world's first offshore wind farm was constructed close to shore in the low waters off Vindeby near Lolland in the south east of Denmark. Vindeby Offshore Wind Farm, consisting of 11 offshore wind turbines, was connected to the grid in 1991. After more than 25 years of service, DONG Energy – owner and operator of the wind farm – has now decided to decommission Vindeby Offshore Wind Farm.

The first service operation vessel (SOV) built in Spain has been launched at shipbuilder GONDAN’s facilities in Figueras. This 81.1-meter-long and 17-meter-beam vessel is the first of two new SOVs that GONDAN will deliver to Norwegian ship owner Østensjø Rederi, with whom GONDAN has signed already 13 shipbuilding contracts in the last decade. The launch event was attended by representatives from Østensjø Rederi as well as the charterer of the vessel, Dong Energy. Both vessels are being built according to UT 540 WP design by Rolls Royce Marine.

DONG Energy said it has reached a settlement with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Technip over who bears responsibility for construction errors concerning an offshore platform for the idled Hejre field. The settlement clears a major hurdle for the Danish company's plans to divest its oil and gas unit to focus on its growing business of developing offshore wind farms. DONG said in a statement that the agreement will reduce the 2.5 billion Danish crowns ($367 million) of provisions it made in relation to the Hejre field ahead of its listing, which was one of the largest in the world last year. It will also have a positive impact of around 900 million crowns on operating profit in DONG's Discontinued Operations…
