Ieva And Cassaras Promoted At Ashland Specialty Chemical

Drew Marine, a division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company, recently announced two promotions in its Boonton, N.J., headquarters. Ron Ieva, who has held positions at Drew Marine as senior product manager, area manager for the Southeast and Caribbean, and cruise industry business manager, has been promoted to regional sales manager for the Americas. Mike Cassaras, who has been southeast and Caribbean area manager and regional sales manager for the Americas, will now assume global responsibility as business manager for Drew Marine Safety. Finnegan Joins Drew Marine As Manager

The Drew Marine Division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company has elected John C. "Jack" Finnegan as manager of new business development. Finnegan, who comes to Drew Marine from Newport News Shipbuilding, will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities to expand the range of products and services Drew Marine offers to the marine industry. He will also manage start-up operation and global implementation for the company's new business ventures and product lines.

Drew Marine Realigns Management Team

In order to enhance its efficiency and coordination in response to shipowners' growing requirements for global supply, the Drew Marine Division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company has restructured its management team. As part of consolidation of operations and marketing, the division has named: Daniel P. Kelleher, vice president of marine sales for Europe and the Americas; Nels J. Hendrickson, vice president of marine marketing and business development; and Barry F. LaVista, vice president of marine operations, responsible for supply and distribution in Europe and the Americas. Sales and operations of the division's Asia Pacific Region remain the responsibility of regional vice president, David O. Ochinero.

Drew Marine Acquires NAL Research Corporation

Drew Marine, a provider of technical solutions and services for the maritime, defense and aviation industries, announced its acquisition of NAL Research Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of Iridium tracking and communications equipment. The financial terms of the acquisition were not released. NAL Research will team up with ACR Electronics, Inc., a brand of Drew Marine known as a leader in safety and survival technologies. The acquisition allows Drew Marine to expand its footprint into the Iridium tracking and communication product offering. NAL brings an experienced research and development team that specializes in Iridium satellite modems and tracking terminals from design through integration for the defense, research and commercial sectors.

Drew Marine Division To Distribute Draeger Safety's Personal Air Fitration Systems

Drew Marine and Draeger Safety have agreed to name Drew Marine the distributor for Draeger's complete line of self-contained breathing apparatus and gas detection equipment throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Per the agreement, Drew Marine will now offer its marine industry customers and marine fire and safety inspection providers the full range of Draeger products. Draeger's principal product lines being offered by Drew Marine include: electronic gas detection measuring and monitoring instruments; self-contained breathing apparatus; Draeger Tubes and Draeger CMS spot measurement gas and vapor sampling.

Wilhelmsen Acquires Drew Marine Technical Solutions

The Wilhelmsen group has signed an agreement to acquire the technical solutions business from Drew Marine. “This acquisition offers a unique opportunity to enhance the scale and geographic reach of our marine products division,” said Wilhelmsen group CEO, Thomas Wilhelmsen. The acquired business will be brought into Wilhelmsen Ships Service. As part of the transaction, the business, people and competence in Drew Marine Technical Solutions will be transferred to Wilhelmsen. Approximately 400 Drew Marine employees will join Wilhelmsen Ships Service upon completion of the transaction.

U.S. Sues to Stop Wilhelmsen From Buying Rival Drew Marine

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission said on Friday it would challenge in court the Norwegian company Wilhelmsen Maritime Services' plan to buy smaller U.S. rival Drew Marine Group. The FTC said the $400 million proposed deal would reduce competition in the market for marine water treatment chemicals, used in a ship's boiler water and engine cooling water systems. If Wilhelmsen closed the deal with New Jersey's Drew Marine, the FTC said the company would have 60 percent of the market for marine water treatment chemicals, while its closest competitor would have 5 percent. "We disagree with the FTC's evaluation and will continue to work towards a positive outcome," Wilhelmsen spokeswoman Benedicte Teigen Gude told Reuters.
