Wärtsilä's Engines and Electrical Solutions for Australian RoRo Newbuild

Finland-based marine engine maker Wärtsilä said Tuesday it would deliver main and auxiliary engines, fuel storage tanks, gas handling equipment and electrical systems for a new RoRo being built for Australian operator SeaRoad Shipping.The 210 meter-long vessel is being built at the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) shipyard in Germany. The RoRo vessel will operate primarily on LNG fuel.The vessel will be powered by two Wärtsilä 46DF dual-fuel main engines and three Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel auxiliary engines.

In the United States, it is a frustrating time to be in the government shipbuilding business. Even though America depends upon maritime commerce and faces growing security risks at sea, shipbuilding is just not a major national focus.Up to now, shipbuilders have had it pretty good. For the past several years, big naval shipbuilders have enjoyed steady growth and strong performance. In 2020, Huntington Ingalls Industries enjoyed record revenue of $9.4 billion, an 8.5% margin and gave a quarter billion back to shareholders in dividends and stock buybacks.

A pair of first-of-their-kind passenger vessels installed with all-electric propulsion will bring Niagara Falls sightseers to experience one of the wonders of the natural world undisturbed by exhaust fumes, engine noise or vibrations.The zero-emissions ferries, named the James V. Glynn and the Nikola Tesla, respectively in honor of the Maid of the Mist chairman and the renowned energy pioneer – are the first all-electric vessels built in the U.S., with power drawn from a high-capacity battery pack supplied and integrated by ABB.

Wärtsilä Electrical Systems for SIEM RoRo Ferries

Wärtsilä has been awarded the contract to provide integrated turnkey electrical solutions for four new RoRo ferries being built at the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) yard in Germany. The electrical systems to be delivered include all products and services available from Wärtsilä SAM Electronics. The vessels are contracted by SIEM RoRo Carriers Ltd., and two will be chartered to Denmark's DFDS and two to EKOL of Turkey. The contract with Wärtsilä was signed in the second quarter of this year. Imtech Marine equipped the first LNG-Hybrid Barge with green technology by order of Becker Marine Systems. The LNG-Hybrid Barge, which will supply the AIDA cruise fleet with energy in Hamburg, is fitted with Imtech Marine’s electrical solutions and fire extinguishing equipment. In addition, Imtech Marine installed the complete ventilation systems with corresponding heat recovery and sea water cooling systems, supporting the Hybrid Barge’s ‘green’ approach by saving energy through reduced heating and cooling requirements.

Imtech Subcontracted Under Canadian NSPS Program

Imtech Marine Canada (IMC) has been awarded its first subcontract of the extensive Canadian government National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS) Program for the engineering of an Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel. Imtech Marine takes responsibility for the ships’ platform automation, electrical solutions, electric propulsion and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and has started the first engineering activities. In October 2011, Imtech Marine announced its involvement in the realization of the extensive NSPS program as a technology partner of Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards.
