ONE Orders 10 Containerships

Japanese shipping company Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd (ONE) on Wednesday announced it has ordered 10 new 13,700 TEU vessels for delivery in 2025 and 2026, adding more tonnage to the industry's crowded containership orderbook.ONE, which is jointly owned by the Japanese shipping lines Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ("K" Line), did not reveal financial details or where the vessels will be constructed.The 10 new vessels will be ready for methanol and ammonia fuel and equipped with a bow cover and other energy saving technologies, ONE said.

MOL, Tata Steel to Develop Environmentally Friendly Bulk Carrier

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and its dry bulk subsidiary MOL Drybulk have signed a memorandum of understanding with steelmaker Tata Steel to develop and deploy an environmentally friendly bulk carrier.MOL will partner with Tata Steel on this innovative project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its supply chain.Peeyush Gupta, Vice President, Supply Chain, Tata Steel, said: "The objective of the agreement is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the ocean transportation of raw materials for production of steel.

NYK Orders 2nd LNG-Fueled PCTC

Japanese shipping and logistics company Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) has placed an order to build a second LNG-fueled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) with Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co.The shipbuilding contract was signed at NYK’s head office on January 31. LNG and Shipping Decarbonisation Target

KHI Delivers Bulk Carrier Gramos

Japanese public multinational corporation Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. (KHI) has delivered a 61,000 dwt bulk carrier newbuild, Gramos, to Gramos Navigation, in China.The delivery of the Ultramax took place at the Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) on October 29, 2019, said a release from KHI.NAKCS is located in Nantong City, China and operated jointly by China COSCO Shipping and KHI.The vessel incorporates various energy saving technologies, which reduce both fuel consumption and emission of carbon dioxide (CO2), thereby complying with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 2 requirements, said the shipbuilder.The Barbados-flagged bulker has a length of 199.9 meters and a width of 32.24 meters.

SHI receives AiP from LR for LNG-fuelled VLCC

Green Tech to Cut Shipping Emissions

Mitsubishi, Wärtsilä Joins for Improved Power and Propulsion Solution

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Equipment Co., LTD (MHI-MME) and the smart technology group Wärtsilä have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the commercial marketing of a new energy solution for ships. The solution combines innovative technologies from both companies to produce greater power generation capacity and higher propeller propulsion for marine vessels. By integrating MHI-MME's waste heat recovery and energy saving power generation system (WHRS) with Wärtsilä's operational control technology for shaft generator systems, the new solution results in more energy efficient ship navigation and an improved Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).

World's Largest Containership Delivered

The world's largest containership, MOL Triumph, was delivered to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) from Samsung Heavy Industries on March 27, 2017. MOL's newest vessel, the first of a fleet of six 20,000 TEU-class containerships for the company, was named MOL Triumph in a ceremony at SHI in South Korea on March 15, 2017. At 400 meters in length and 58.8 meters in width, MOL Triumph is currently the world's largest containership. With a capacity of 20,170 TEU, the vessel is the first 20,000 TEU-class containership deployed in THE Alliance's Asia to Europe trade via the FE2 service. MOL Triumph will set off on her maiden voyage from Xingang in April 2017 and will sail to Dalian, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Yantian and Singapore.

Iron Ore Carrier for Kobe Steel Named Shinzan Maru

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced that on October 27, a naming ceremony for the Shinzan Maru, a newbuilding iron ore carrier that will sail under a long-term transport contract with Kobe Steel, Ltd., was held at the Hiroshima Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Among those on at the ceremony were Kobe Steel Chairman, President, CEO, and Representative Director Mr. Hiroya Kawasaki, who named the new vessel. Thereafter his wife cut the rope. Shinzan Maru is an established name for vessels transporting raw materials to Kobe Steel that dates back to the era of Yamashita-Shinnihon Steamship Co., Ltd. (YSL), one of MOL’s predecessors. The new vessel is the third generation to sail under the Shinzan Maru name, and will ensure a stable transportation of iron ore for Kobe Steel.
