Spain Detains Oil Tanker Over Mediterranean Fuel Spill
Spain has detained and fined a Maltese-flagged oil tanker it says discharged oil in open waters near the northeastern port city of Tarragona, a transport ministry department said.Spain's Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines have become hubs for shipping activity including the transfer of oil known as ship-to-ship (STS) operations, which industry sources say are becoming an increasing safety concern.Spanish authorities said they had intercepted the Lagertha after a discharge of hydrocarbons was detected by aircraft sensors and satellite radar on Feb.
Navantia Taps Pemamek for Shipbuilding Production Lines
Navantia placed an order for the automated PEMA Panel Lines, Profile Processing Lines and Sub-Block Production Lines, designed to ensure that Navantia Shipyards will have the latest laser-hybrid-based welding and robotic technology fully integrated to create the Shipyard 4.0 working environment. The agreement between Navantia and Pemamek -- which entails several phased deliveries during the next two years -- includes an advanced automated and robotized PEMA Panel line, PEMA Profile Processing Line, and PEMA Sub-Block Production Line for Navantia’syards in Spain.

WindFloat Atlantic Platform Heads Offshore
The second of the three platforms for the WindFloat Atlantic project has left the Port of Ferrol for its final destination 20 kilometers offshore Viana do Castelo, Portugal.Upon arrival to the project site, it will be installed next to the first floating platform, which has the exact same dimensions: 30 meters in height and with a 50-meter distance between each column. Russia's Novatek Ships First LNG Cargo to Spain from Vysotsk
Russia's largest non-state gas producer Novatek has delivered a first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to Spain from its Vysotsk plant, according to Refinitiv Eikon data.Novatek, Russia's top LNG producer, officially launched the Vysotsk plant on the Baltic Sea in April.According to the data, Novatek shipped a cargo of 9,500 cubic metres (6,000 tonnes) to the port of El Ferrol in Spain on June 15.The first line of Vysotsk plant has a capacity of 660,000 tonnes of frozen gas per year. Novatek has plans of expanding it by over 1.1 million tonnes annually with a second train.Refinitiv Eikon shipping data also showed the plant has shipped around 27 cargoes of LNG with total volumes of 250,000 cubic metres (around 160,000 tonnes) to Lithuania, Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Spanish Port Hosts First LNG Operations
The port of Ferrol hosted its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation recently which saw two ferries filled with LNG by Repsol in the port’s Mugardos terminal.Recently built by Turkish shipyard Tersan, the Samnøy and Huftarøy ferries received 178 cubic metres of fuel from five tanks in total. The Samnøy received about 110 cubic metres of fuel, whereas the Huftarøy was supplied with 68 cubic metres.The two operations were carried out on the outer jetty, which is the dock of the inner dock where small and medium-sized cruise ships usually dock when they visit the city.They were on their way to the Norwegian fjords, where they will be exploited in passenger services by the Torghatten Nord shipping company.
Armada Ship Sailing for Australian Waters
On a frosty and unseasonably sunny Galician morning, the crew of Spanish Armada ship F-105 ESPS Cristóbal Colón, embarked with a detachment of five Royal Australian Navy personnel, departed the historic Naval station of Ferrol, bound for Australia. Australian Defence Attaché to Southern Europe, Captain Ray Leggatt and the Commander of the Naval Action Group One, Rear Admiral Spanish Armada, Alfonso Perez de Nandares, farewelled the frigate under the command of Commander Ignacio Cuartero Lorenzo. Cristóbal Colón will arrive at Fleet Base West, in Rockingham Western Australia, in mid-February and will remain until June supporting introduction into service training for the ship’s company of destroyer, NUSHIP Hobart.
Reforma Pemex Now Under BSM Management
Following a two-year period of plan approval and newbuild supervision services provided by Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement’s project focused business, Schulte Marine Concept, BSM's Mexico based Ship Management Centre has commenced management of Reforma Pemex, the first of two offshore ‘flotel’ accommodation vessels owned by Petroleos Mexicanos International (PMI) and chartered to the Mexican National Oil Company Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX). Commencing operations from the beginning of January 2017, Reforma Pemex set sail in late November from the Barrera Shipyard in Vigo, Spain en route to the Gulf of Mexico where she will host up to 700 PEMEX personnel working on offshore platform fields in the Campeche area.
Ondimar Firms Order Suezmax Quartet at Navantia
Navantia and Maritime Transport Ondimar LDA (shipping company Ibaizabal Group) today ratified the contracts signed in late June and the financial structure for the construction of 4 Suezmax tankers, expandable to two. 4 boats will involve 3 million hours of work for Navantia and the auxiliary industry of shipyards in the Bay of Cadiz and Ferrol estuary. The ships will be built in Spain at international market price for this type of vessel, giving stability to the workload of Navantia, promoting job creation and the national industry. The contracts represent a return to profitability for the company to build oil after nearly two decades without making this type of vessel.

Navantia Orders Sedni IAS for PEMEX Flotel
Sedni secures an important contract with Navantia to supply its Automation System (IAS) Diamar for the flotel vessel (BAP) which is being built at Ferrol factory for PEMEX owner. Navantia has selected Sedni technology for this project. Its big flexibility on integration satisfies Navantia specifications for the monitoring and control of the different systems on board, such as level gauging system, D/E propulsion, electric plant, pumps, generators and rest of equipment on engine room. Navantia Ship Delivery To Algeria After Modernization

LNG Hub in Galicia Gets EU Funding Boost
The European Union will co-finance with a little over €600,000 from the TEN-T Programme a series of studies to develop a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) hub in the Port of Ferrol, located near the city of La Coruña in the northwest of Spain. The studies, which were selected for funding under the 2012 TEN-T Annual Programme's priority on new technologies for transport infrastructure, focus on the design of the necessary facilities, infrastructure and procedures in order to supply LNG as fuel along the entire port logistics chain: from the port services to ships. LNG is rapidly emerging as a more environmentally friendly fuel for the shipping sector and its uptake is encouraged by the European Union.
Australian Warship Hull Departs Spain Aboard 'Blue Marlin'
The second and last of the Royal Australian Navy’s new amphibious ships has left the builder's yard, Navantia Ferrol shipyard, Vigo, in northern Spain, bound for Melbourne, informs the Australia Defence Force. “The Canberra-Class LHDs are the largest ships ever built for the Navy and will provide the Australian Defence Force with one of the most capable and sophisticated amphibious deployment capabilities in the world,” Defence Minister Senator David Johnston said. When completed the LHDs will be more than 230 metres long, 27.5 metres high and weigh around 27,500 tonnes.

Sener Provides Second Virtual Design Center to Navantia
Sener was the winning bidder for the turnkey project for the second Virtual Design Center (VDC) of Navantia, this time for its Factory in Ferrol. This is the second with similar scope supplied by Sener to Navantia, after the first installation in the Factory of Cartagena in 2011, which is now fully operative. With capacity for 30 occupants, the new VDC has a fixed screen of five meters wide and 2.6 meters high, with overhead projector and a system of first reflection mirror due to the dimensions of the room.
CEPSA Boosts Presence in Northwest Spain
CEPSA, with the aim of attending demand of supply in northwest of Spain, said it will start operations during first days of August, at the Ports of Ferrol and La Coruña. After months of works and developments, CEPSA is coming up with new resources in an area where supplies of marine fuels have been requested for long time. These new facilities have been put in place to attend strategic traffic sailing from/to North Europe to/from South Europe, America, Africa and Asia. CEPSA is now ready to supply at these two ports by truck and one double-hull barge of 3,000 m3, named Monte Arucas, with rating capacities of 600 m3/h for fuel oils, and 250 m3/h for MGO. This barge will supply from anchorage at Ports of Ferrol and La Coruña.
Aircraft Carrier Hull to be Carried on Dockwise HTV
Australian Landing Helicopter Dock (ALHD) ship hull is for onboard Heavy Transport Vessel (HTV) delivery to Australia from Spain. Blue Marlin, the largest semi-submersible HTV available to date, is to load shortly the Navantia manufactured hull (230 meters in length) of the amphibious ALHD flagship Canberra for delivery to the Royal Australian Navy. A complex technical challenge emerged: the aircraft carrier hull was calculated to protrude 55 meters from the aft end of the Blue Marlin.
