NASSCO Receives ISO Certification

NASSCO has earned the designation as the first private shipyard in the U.S. to receive ISO 14001 certification for its comprehensive Environmental Management System and environmental protection policies. The certification process was conducted by ABS. ISO 14001 is a voluntary international standard that establishes the requirements for a company's Environmental Management System (EMS). Elements include environmental policy, planning, operational controls and internal auditing. The certification is also comprised of continual improvement in environmental performance and employee environmental awareness.

NYK Obtains ISO Certification

NYK Engineering Co., Ltd., has become the first new shipbuilding consultancy in Japan to obtain ISO 9001:2000 certification. By obtaining the certificate, NYK Engineering has verified the establishment of a quality management system in their new shipbuilding consultancy service, which includes design of new shipbuilding, approval drawings, and site supervision. Private Maritime Security Firm, Tundra, Attains LRQA Certification

Tundra Maritime Defense Services (MDS), has been certified by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) to ISO/PAS 28007, the Guidelines for Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSCs). The certification, explains Tundra, gives established guidelines to private maritime security companies (PMSC) that supply privately contracted armed security personnel (PCASP) on board ships. Certification to these standards demonstrates to the international community that Tundra MDS can legally, safely and effectively guard seafarers, their vessels and cargo.

WR Systems Achieves ISO Certification

Norfolk Mayor Paul D. Fraim will recognize WR Systems, Ltd. for Outstanding Achievement on Wednesday, March 4, following the company’s certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). WRSystems has received ISO 9001:2000 certification, a process standard for a quality management system. The ISO is based in Geneva, Switzerland and establishes and approves worldwide proprietary industrial and commercial standards for technical and engineering criteria, methods and practices. To achieve ISO certification a company must go through a rigorous and lengthy process. The certification of WRSystems lasts for three years and will help open doors to both government contracts and the private sector.

Thrustmaster Receives ISO 9001 Certification from ABS

Thrustmaster of Texas, Inc., has received ISO 9001 Certification from ABS. The certification was awarded after a series of rigorous quality-control audits, and verification that Thrustmaster is compliant with all phases of the ISO 9001 Quality Control processes and procedures. “We have been working towards ISO certification for well over a year,” said Gene Little, Thrustmaster quality manager. “We revised many of our existing policies and procedures, and refined others to make sure we were above and beyond what ABS was looking for. The certification is just part of an overall program to enhance the overall operations of Thrustmaster.

Greencarrier Freight Services Achieves ISO Standards

Grand Bahamas Shipyard Goes for ISO Certification

Grand Bahamas Shipyard has announced this week a two pronged program to attain certification to International Standards. The company has embarked upon the process of certification to the ISO 9001 Quality Standard and the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard, both regarded as standards in their fields. The certification process is being assessed by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance, Inc. in both fields and is being observed by the Bahamas Environment, Science and Technology Commission. Fiji Maritime Academy Bullish on Prospects

The Fiji Maritime Academy (FMA) is on the right track to become one of the finest maritime training institutions in the region. It has also achieved an important milestone after being awarded International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) Certification. The Academy is planning a history-making launch March 9 with the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, a former Fiji Navy commander will officially open the revitalised 45-year-old training institute. The ceremony is planned at the Laucala Bay, Suva facility.

Damen Repair Yards Earn More ISO Certifications

A number of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion yards have recently or will soon achieve new ISO certifications as part of an ongoing initiative to standardize operating procedures across the group. Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm) and Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen (DSVl) have passed ISO 3834-2 certificate audits. This standard defines rigorous quality procedures for the fusion welding of metallic materials and represents the highest possible accolade in the welding industry. TOTE Earns OHSAS Certification

Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc., (TOTE), a shipping company operating roll-on/roll-off cargo vessels between the Ports of Tacoma, Wash., and Anchorage, Alaska, announced its completion in April of the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001:2007 certification process for safety standards. TOTE was certified to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001:2004 standard for environmental practices in 2007. The OHSAS 18001 implementation was done in coordination with 14001 as a health, safety and environmental (HSE) program. TOTE has retained an ISO certification for quality management systems (9000 series) since 1998. To achieve those targets, TOTE enacted numerous practices, including a safety orientation for all employees and new employees.

Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf (DSO) has become the latest Damen ship repair yard to receive ISO 9001:2008 certification, demonstrating that the yard fulfils the requirements of the defined management system standards to consistently provide a high quality service that meets all customer, statutory and regulatory requirements through a process of continuous improvement. This specifically refers to the repair, maintenance, inspection and drydocking of inland vessels, seagoing vessels and other steel constructions.

DNV GL has confirmed that Columbia Shipmanagement complies with the highest standards in energy and safety management. Ardent Earns ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Aalborg Reports Record Marine Boiler Sales in 2001

Aalborg Industries closed year 2001 with the highest total of marine boilers ever sold during a year. Aalborg also reported that its marine turnover was also the highest ever, and the same goes for the order backlog of marine boilers. The new MISSION series of boilers had an exceptional year during which especially the MISSION D-type boilers made a breakthrough in the Korean and Chinese tanker markets. A steadily increasing number of Aalborg Industries boilers for Japan, Korea and China are contracted for production at our boiler factory in Qingdao/China, and the production facilities are again being expanded while training in the use of new technology and in quality assurance are ongoing.

Netherlands Opts for ‘Flexible’ Container Weighing
