The insolvency administrator of the MV Werften Group, Dr Christoph Morgen, today handed over the symbolic key of the Wismar shipyard to Bernard Meyer of Meyer Wismar. In late 2021, Danos completed four coastal restoration projects in south Louisiana on behalf of Shell Pipeline Company. The work will provide shoreline protection through a combination of customized 3D printed modules, nicknamed “Cajun Coral,” and advanced satellite image monitoring with partner Natrx, Inc. The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) announced that it will work with the Montreal Port Authority (MPA) to advance the project development of a new container terminal in Contrecoeur, where the port plans to expand its activities.The work could lead to an investment in the South Shore project, potentially via a form of equity or debt financing, said Pierre Lavallée, the bank’s chief executive officer.The Memorandum of Understanding confirms that CIB and MPA will work on the financial structuring of the proposed terminal. This due diligence will include planning and pre-procurement activities for the design, the construction, the financing, the operation and the maintenance of the terminal.

Family-run shipyard Overmarine has delivered Mangusta Oceano 43, the third 43-meter yacht in the Mangusta Oceano series of displacement vessels, previously known as “Project Firenze” to its owner.The official ceremony was held on Overmarine Group’s private quay following the successful completion of the tests and sea trials, held in the rough winter seas.The 43 metre, three decked yacht, which has been designed by Alberto Mancini, is built from steel and aluminium. Global provider of floating production services to the oil and gas industry BW Offshore has signed an interim extension agreement for Abo FPSO with Nigerian Agip Exploration Ltd, a subsidiary of ENI S.p.A., until 30 April 2018. The short term extension has been agreed to secure operational continuity while joint work is continuing to conclude the negotiations. Two weeks ago, BW Offshore received notice from Petrobras of the exercise of a one-year extension of the contracts relating to the FPSO Cidade de São Mateus. BW Offshore will continue its dialogue with the client towards finalising a firm plan for the FPSO. The FPSO Cidade de São Mateus remains in lay-up. BW Offshore is a leading global provider of floating production services to the oil and gas industry.

President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, held a meeting with CEO of Rosneft, Igor Sechin, to bolster the joint work between Venezuela and Russia and sign new agreements on gas exploration and exploitation. People’s Minister of Petroleum and President of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A., Manuel Quevedo, along with PDVSA Executive Vice President and Vice President of Trade and Supply, Ysmel Serrano; People’s Minister of Finance, Simón Zerpa; Sectoral Vice President of Economy, Wilmer Castro Soteldo, and a high level delegation of Rosneft also participated in the meeting. Fraternal relations with the Russian Federation were a highlight of the meeting, as Rosneft is a strategic partner that has enabled the development of Venezuela’s energy sector. Russian energy firm Novatek  has announced that Yamal LNG has commenced producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the first LNG train, with the nameplate capacity of 5.5 million tons per annum. The first cargo loading is scheduled on 8 December 2017 at the Sabetta port using the first Arc7 ice-class LNG tanker named the “Christophe de Margerie”. The Chairman of Novatek's Management Board Leonid Mikhelson noted: "This event marks a milestone accomplishment for the Yamal LNG project. The commencement of LNG production begins a new chapter in our corporate history. Many contractors and suppliers from Russia and abroad were involved in this project. We have received great support from the Russian government in implementing this project.

Once technical standards have been developed by IMO and adopted into national laws, the next step is implementation on board ships. This is the role of both flag States, who issue surveys and certificates, as well as port States, who can inspect all ships in their ports. The Sub-Committee on Implementation of IMO Instruments, meeting this week for its fourth session (III 4, 25-29 September) provides a forum where all matters relating to implementation are discussed. This week’s agenda includes the finalization of revised and updated Procedures for Port State Control, including updated guidelines on the certification of seafarers, hours of rest and manning.

The Indian Navy’s Annual Theatre Level Readiness and Operational Exercise (TROPEX 17) was conducted on the Western Seaboard from  24 Jan 17 till 23 Feb 17. The month long exercise saw participation of over 45 ships from both the Western and Eastern Naval Commands of the Indian Navy, including the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, 05 submarines including the nuclear powered Chakra, 50 Naval aircraft, 11 ships from the Coast Guard, troops from the Army and 20 aircraft from the Air Force including Su 30s, Jaguars and AWACS. The exercise, in complete coordination with the Army and Air Force, was conducted in phases to test the various facets of war-fighting and joint combat capabilities of the armed forces to respond to given threat situations.

Far Eastern Petrochemical Company and Far Eastern Russian Academy of Sciences division have signed an agreement on scientific and technical collaboration. As part of the agreement Far Eastern Petrochemical Company (FEPCO) and Far Eastern branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (FEBRAS) are going to realize a number of research programs relating to high-performance energy- and resource-saving technologies in the sphere of complex hydrocarbons processing. Moreover, the base of FEBRAS will be used as a site for training FEPCO specialists in the course of their doctorate studies at Academy of Sciences regional branches institutes. The term of the contract is up to 2022.

Petrobras’ Exploration and Production Director, Solange Guedes, received the OTC Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies, Organizations and Institutions, the highest recognition that an oil company can be given as an offshore operator. The awards ceremony took place during a dinner in Houston, USA, at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), the world’s largest event dedicated to the area of offshore oil exploration and production. Accepting the award on behalf of Petrobras, Guedes highlighted the importance of this recognition for the company’s technical staff and partnerships, as well as the roles performed by suppliers and the academic community.

Shared development of oil, gas and possibly other natural resources is the most promising option for reducing tensions in the South China Sea and should be the focus of efforts to improve diplomatic relations between China and its coastal neighbors. PAO Sovcomflot, Asea Brown Boveri Ltd. (ABB) Company and the Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University (MSU) have signed an agreement for research, technological and educational partnership. The document provides for the establishment of the Marine Propulsion Simulation Centre at MSU in Vladivostok. The operations of this centre which will be focused on preparing staff for work on vessels equipped with Azipod propulsion units. The agreement was signed by Sergey Frank, President and CEO of Sovcomflot, Sergey Ogay, Rector of MSU, and Anatoly Popov, Managing Director of ABB in Russia. Brand owners and representatives from the international shipping industry have joined forces in signing an historic declaration of intent aimed at preventing the maritime transport of counterfeit goods. Leaders from global shipping firms, freight forwarders, brand owners – whose products are counterfeited – and industry organizations, representing both industries signed a joint "Declaration of Intent to Prevent the Maritime Transport of Counterfeit Goods" today in Brussels. It marks the first time the global shipping industry and brand owners have made a public commitment to work together to stop the transport of counterfeit goods on shipping vessels.
