RMC Begins Building Spirit of Tasmania RoPax

Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions said it has started building the first of two new car and passenger ferries for Spirit of Tasmania (TT-Line Company). The construction of the Spirit of Tasmania IV, set to operate between mainland Australia and Tasmania, kicked off with a traditional steel cutting ceremony.“Although the actual construction of the first ferry started today, RMC and Spirit of Tasmania already have a long history. The pandemic, among other things, disrupted our plans, but the agreement for the vessels was re-signed in 2021.

Wasaline's New RoPax Vessel Christened

Wasaline's new car and passenger ferry Aurora Botnia, built at Rauma shipyard, was christened on Wednesday in Vaasa, Finland. The vessel will operate the route between Vaasa and Umeå, Sweden, daily.Aurora Botnia construction started with ceremonies in September 2019. The next major milestone was reached in February 2020 when the ship’s keel was laid. In September 2020, launching was celebrated one year after construction began, and in June 2021 the vessel first reached the sea.

TT Line Circles Back to Rauma Shipyard for RoPax Pair

Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) said on Wednesday that it has secured an order from Australian shipping company TT Line Company to build two car and passenger ferries at the Rauma shipyard.The newbuild order comes after TT Line, also known as Spirit of Tasmania, withdrew from a previous memorandum of understanding (MOU) last July while the Tasmanian government-owned company investigated options to produce the vessels locally to help offset economic impacts from the coronavirus pandemic.RMC revealed Wednesday that negotiations resumed in March this year…

Rauma Shipyard Resumes Operations After Coronavirus Outbreak

Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) said it resumed production on Thursday after it paused operations last week following a COVID-19 outbreak among its workforce.The company halted production last Friday after a cluster of coronavirus infections was discovered at the Rauma shipyard. Authorities tested all shipyard employees and quarantined those who had been exposed to the virus.RMC said the yard was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized during the weeklong shutdown, and that production will recommence in phases, in a controlled manner.

Major Supply Contracts Awarded for Finland's New Warships

MAN Reenters Finnish Market with Baltic Order

MAN Energy Solutions has won the order to supply the engines for a newbuild shuttle ferry for Estonian shipping company Tallink Grupp. A diesel-electric plant comprising five MAN 51/60DF dual-fuel main engines – with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as primary fuel – will power the MyStar, which Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) will construct at its yard in Finland. RMC to Build Ferries for TT-Line

Høglund to Supply FGSS for Tallink

Norwegean global marine automation and system integration expert Høglund Marine Solutions (HMS) will supply Fuel Gas Supply Systems (FGSS) to Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) for Tallink Grupp’s newest LNG powered ferry, MySTAR.Høglund will work with Finnish tank manufacturer West Welding to design and supply the systems that will handle LNG onboard MySTAR, constructed by Rauma Marine Constructions. Finnish Navy Orders 4 New Vessels at Rauma

The Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) won the contract from the Finnish Ministry of Defence for the construction of four new Pohjanmaa-class naval vessels, for the total cost of EUR 1.3 billion.The design phase will resume with immediate effect and construction of the first vessel will start at the shipyard in 2022. The Finnish Government approved the procurement, valued at approximately EUR 700 million, yesterday, September 19, 2019.Rauma Marine Constructions Oy and the Finnish Defence Forces will formally sign the agreement for the construction of the multipurpose corvettes on September 26, 2019. Tallink Grupp Orders LNG Ferry

Tallink Grupp, the largest passenger and cargo shipping company in the Baltic Sea region, and Finnish shipbuilding company Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) signed the contract for the construction of a new LNG-powered fast ferry for the Tallinn – Helsinki route shuttle operations.Similarl to the group’s newest vessel Megastar, the new shuttle ferry will also be dual fuel operated, its overall length will be approximately 212 meters and with a passenger capacity of 2,800, said a press release from the Estonian shipping company operating Baltic Sea cruiseferries and RoPax ships from Estonia to Finland.The vessel will cost approximately 250 million euros and it will be built at the Rauma shipyard in Finland…

Rauma Marine to Build Ferry for Kvarken Link

Finnish-Swedish passenger ferry operator Kvarken Link has signed a construction agreement with Finnish shipbuilding company Rauma Marine Constructions for a car and passenger ferry, set to operate between the Finnish city of Vaasa and the Swedish city of Umeå.Following the agreement, the planning of the vessel can begin with immediate effect. STX Finland Management Changes

The acting President and Chairman of STX Finland, Mr Su-Jou Kim, has decided to reorganize STX Finland´s management group to improve the efficiency, synergies and competitiveness of STX Finland. Mr Jyrki Heinimaa has been appointed Executive Vice President and CFO (Chief Financal Officer) of STX Finland Oy. He will be responsible for the following functions: accounting & finance, communication, synergies and strategy. In addition Mr Heinimaa is responsible for the new business areas such as wind power. Mr Heinimaa has been with STX Finland in various management positions for 15 years. Mr Timo Suistio has been appointed Executive Vice President and COO (Chief Operating Officer) of STX Finland Oy and also shipyard director of the STX Rauma Shipyard.

Aker Finnyards Names New President

The Board of Aker Finnyards Oy has appointed Mr Jyrki Heinimaa as the new President of the Finnish shipbuilding company Aker Finnyards Oy. Heinimaa (38), LL.M., the present Senior Vice President, Finance & Administration, of the company has been employed by the company since 1996 attending first to the legal matters and since 1999 also for the financial administration. Heinimaa will for the present continue also as the CFO of the company. “I very much appreciate the honor to continue Yrjö Julin’s work at Aker Finnyards. Yrjö has done an excellent work and created a good basis for the further development of the company. I am with great interest and enthusiasm looking forward to the new challenges”, Heinimaa said.

Aker Yards signed LOI for three Container Carriers

B & N Nordsjöfrakt for building three container carriers. The contract, worth in all approx. EUR 150 million, implies about 1,000 man-years of work. All three vessels are planned for delivery in 2006. "We are delighted to have signed this Letter of Intent", says Jyrki Heinimaa, President of Aker Finnyards in Rauma. "These vessels will sail in heavy ice conditions during the wintertime, and Aker Yards has significant knowledge in icegoing technology, having built all of the world's three multipurpose icebreakers", Heinimaa adds. The container carriers are intended to operate on the Gulf of Bothnia, between Kemi and Oulu in Finland and Gothenburg in Sweden.

Aker Yards Integration Process Moves into Implementation Phase

Aker Yards has announced its new business model for its shipyards in business area cruise & ferries. The new business model, presented today to the management and employee representatives, is the result of a 100 days integration process in which 12 task forces in France and Finland have analyzed the two ways of doing shipbuilding. Best practices, efficient organizations and fixed costs were reviewed and compared. This process resulted in about 150 initiatives to be implemented over the next three years worth in the magnitude of 100 million euro in savings, among which some 40 million for Finland.
