A Coast Guard helicopter aircrew medically evacuated a 57-year-old woman from the cruise ship Carnival Radiance approximately 35 miles southwest of Point Loma, Saturday. Carnival Radiance crewmembers contacted Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders at approximately 4:30 p.m. requesting assistance for a passenger displaying stroke symptoms.Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew with a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Special Tactics and Rescue (STAR) Team paramedic aboard to assist.Once on the scene, the helicopter crew lowered the rescue swimmer, recovered the patient and transported her to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. The patient was reported to be in stable condition.

US Coast Guard helicopter aircrews medically evacuated four separate passengers off three different cruise ships, off the southern California coast, during a 24-hour period beginning Friday night.A 47-year-old woman, reportedly suffering from a progressive acute illness, was hoisted off the cruise ship Carnival Panorama, which was 100 miles south of San Diego. The cruise ship and an MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego rendezvoused 100 miles south of San Diego.

An ailing mariner was medically evacuated from an articulated tug and barge approximately 65 miles off Galveston, Texas, Monday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a call at about 4 p.m. from the 116-foot U.S.-flagged tugboat Leigh Ann Moran stating a 60-year-old crew member was ailing and disoriented. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston and HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas, launched to assist.The Dolphin crew arrived on scene, hoisted the man and brought him to Scholes International Airport.

An ailing tugboat crewmember was medically evacuated approximately 10 miles north of Manasquan Inlet, N.J. on Friday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay Command Center in Philadelphia received an alert that the individual was suffering from abdominal pain while aboard the 33.5-meter tugboat Saint Emilion.A 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet launched to meet the tugboat after the Delaware Bay Command Center consulted with a Coast Guard flight surgeon who recommended medical evacuation for the individual.Once on scene, the MLB boatcrew removed the crewman from the vessel and transferred him to emergency medical services that were waiting on scene at the Station.

The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated the Captain of the 734-foot Singapore-flagged containership M/V Maersk Batam, approximately 100 nautical miles south of Puerto Rico, Monday night.The containership captain, a U.K. citizen, was experiencing life threatening symptoms of a possible stroke during the ship’s transit from St. Marta, Colombia to their next scheduled port call in Southhampton, England.Coast Guard Sector San Juan watchstanders received the medevac request at 9:55 a.m. Monday from the M/V Maersk Batam, as the ship was transiting 175 nautical miles southwest of Mona Island, Puerto Rico. A U.S. Navy Sailor assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) died from injuries sustained while conducting small boat training July 8.Ensign Sarah Mitchell, 23, of Feasterville, Penn., was medically evacuated to a hospital in Aqaba, Jordan, and was pronounced dead at 12:45 p.m., local time.No other Sailors were injured and an investigation is ongoing.

Amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) arrived Aug. 21 at Changi Naval Base, Republic of Singapore and is moored across the pier from the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56). While in Singapore, America will provide messing and berthing services to McCain crew members and to support damage control efforts on board. America will also support ongoing searches for 10 missing Sailors. Ship Repair Facility divers are on scene as well to assess the damage to the hull. McCain was involved in a collision with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while underway east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore early in the morning on Aug. 21 (as reported 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time) and arrived at Changi Naval Base in the afternoon.

The guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) has arrived at Changi Naval Base following a collision with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while underway east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore on Aug. 21. The collision was reported at 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time. Significant damage to the hull resulted in flooding to nearby compartments, including crew berthing, machinery, and communications rooms. Damage control efforts by the crew halted further flooding. There are currently 10 Sailors missing and five injured. Four of the injured were medically evacuated by a Singapore Armed Forces helicopter to a hospital in Singapore for non-life threatening injuries. The fifth injured Sailor does not require further medical attention. A family assistance center has been established.

An injured lobsterman was medically evacuated by U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew Tuesday roughly 130 nautical miles east of Cape Cod.   At about 10:15 a.m., a crewmember aboard the lobster boat Eagle contacted watchstanders at the First Coast Guard District command center requesting assistance for a 41-year-old crewmember who had accidentally been impaled.   A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended a medevac and Air Station Cape Cod launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter at about 11 a.m. The air crew arrived on scene, hoisted the man, and is currently in transit to Cape Cod Hospital.

The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated a man off of a dredging barge in Lake Erie near Sandusky, Ohio, Wednesday evening. At approximately 5:45 p.m., a good Samaritan called Coast Guard Station Marblehead, Ohio, to report two men on a dredging barge who needed help due to injuries. The barge was 50 yards off shore in water too shallow for a Coast Guard response boat to get to come alongside, so a rescue team traveled to the location by truck. A 23-year-old male was medically evacuated by a Coast Guard MH-65 helicopter aircrew in the Bahamas Wednesday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami command center received a report from a good Samaritan aboard the fishing vessel Ducky Dive 46 nautical miles west of Andros Islands, Bahamas, of a 23-year-old male who was suffering chest pains and required urgent medical care. After consulting with the duty flight surgeon, a Coast Guard MH-65 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami was launched. Upon arriving on scene, the male was safely hoisted from the fishing vessel into the helicopter and transported to Odyssey Airport, Bahamas, were emergency medical services awaited. The male was last know to be in stable condition.

U.S. Coast Guard air crews medevac Ukrainian from bulk carrier 130 miles east of Cape Cod, Mass. A Ukrainian sailor in distress was medically evacuated by U.S. Coast Guard Crews Monday, 130 miles east of Cape Cod, Mass. Watchstanders at the 1st Coast Guard District Command Center received a medevac request from the motor vessel Alice Oldendorff stating a 28-year-old man was suffering stomach pains. After a conference call with a flight surgeon, the operator of the vessel, and the search and rescue mission coordinator, a medevac was recommended within a 12-hour window. The operator was instructed to change course and make best speed towards Cape Cod to decrease the time it would take to get the man medical care. Crews aboard an HC-144a Casa and a MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter responded to help.

A Coast Guard helicopter rescue crew medically evacuated a man from a fishing boat Saturday about 20 miles east of Nantucket. The master of the 67-foot fishing boat Sassy Girl, homeported in Virginia, contacted Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England watchstanders at about 3 p.m. reporting a crewmember suffered a hand injury and needed medical attention. The Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended a medevac and a helicopter rescue crew from Air Station Cape Cod launched. "The boat's master took action and provided first aid until the Coast Guard crew arrived on scene," said Petty Officer 1st Class Andy Case, the search and rescue coordinator at Sector Southeastern New England.

The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 46-year-old man from a 738-foot container ship approximately 6 miles south of Santa Rosa Island, Sunday. At 10:01 a.m., Sunday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach command center received a report from the crew of the container ship Isla Bella that a crewmember aboard received severe burns from his knees down to his feet, after cooking oil spilled, covering his legs. The Coast Guard District 11 flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for care within eight hours. A MH-65D Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Los Angeles that was launched, arrived on scene and safely hoisted the patient.

The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 69-year-old-female Sunday 56 miles south of Nantucket. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard’s 1st District command center received a call from the cruise ship Norwegian Gem requesting a medevac of a 69-year-old woman suffering from possible internal injuries at approximately 9 a.m. Sunday. An Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched shortly before 10 a.m. and arrived on scene at approximately 11 a.m at which time they hoisted the woman from the deck of the vessel. The Jayhawk crew brought the woman to Barnstable Municipal Airport at around noon where she was transferred to local Emergency Medical Services personnel. EMS was expected to transport the woman to Cape Cod Hospital.

The U.S. Coast Guard, the Alpena Sheriff's Department and several good Samaritans are assisting two men aboard a 42-foot sailboat that began taking on water early Wednesday morning 18 miles east of Alpena, Michigan in Lake Huron. Shortly after 9 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, received a call from two men aboard a 42-foot sailboat stating their vessel was taking on water approximately 18 nautical miles east of Alpena in Lake Huron. The men stated they were currently using a hand pump to dewater the vessel.

U.S. Coast Guard rescue crews medically evacuated a 23-year-old male Tuesday at approximately 10:40 p.m from U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS James E. Williams (DDG 95), 220 miles off the coast of Chatham, N.J. Coast Guard 1st District Watchstanders received notification from Navy Fleet Forces that a crewmember had a medical condition that required immediate attention at approximately 9:45 p.m. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod launched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter with a health care specialist aboard. In addition, an HC-144 fixed-wing airplane provided air support.

A Coast Guard rescue crew, accompanied by two Hull Emergency Medical Services technicians, medically evacuated a 13-year-old male Wednesday at about 7:30 p.m. from Peddocks Island, one of the Boston Harbor Islands. Hull EMS contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Point Allerton at approximately 6 p.m. reporting a camper at Outward Bound Camp was complaining of a possible hernia and needed medical attention. A Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from the Station immediately launched to assist. The boy was stable and ambulatory when the crew arrived on scene. The Coast Guard rescue boat transferred the boy to Hull, where his care was handed over to Hull EMS.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami medically evacuated a woman 98 nautical miles northeast of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Sunday. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 7th District command center received a report of a woman aboard the sailing vessel Kraken who required immediate medical attention. After consulting with a flight surgeon, an aircrew from Air Station Miami was launched to medically evacuate the woman. Upon arriving on scene, the rescue swimmer deployed from the helicopter and the aircrew hoisted the woman aboard the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter. The woman was transported to St. Mary's Hospital, for further care.

A rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Miami Beach, Florida, medically evacuated a male in the vicinity of Nixon Beach, Florida, Saturday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami received a report from a crewmember aboard a 53-foot catamaran, Mariah, of a 37-year-old male passenger who required emergency medical services after suffering an injury to his leg after jumping off the boat. A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Miami Beach arrived on scene and transported the male to Mercy Hospital in Miami.

A crewman was medically evacuated from a fishing boat by U.S. Coast Guard search and rescue crews 110 miles east of Cape Cod, Friday. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Boston Command Center received an urgent call from the fishing vessel Capt Joe stating that a 62-year-old crew member aboard was suffering from severe abdominal pain. Considering the potential severity of the man's condition and the distance from land, Sector Boston conferred with the 1st District Command Center who initiated the medevac. Air Station Cape Cod was directed to launch two air crews, one aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to conduct the hoist, another aboard an HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircraft to provide communication and support coverage.

A Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated an 80-year-old man off Beaver Island in Lake Michigan Sunday night. The man’s name is not being released. At 5:40 p.m., emergency medical personnel on Beaver Island contacted a search and rescue coordinator at the Coast Guard Ninth District command center to request assistance with transporting an 80-year-old man, who was suffering from signs of a stroke, to a hospital in Michigan. A rescue aircrew in an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter launched from Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City, Michigan, to assist. The Coast Guard aircrew met EMTs and the man at the Beaver Island Airport, where he was brought aboard the helicopter for transport to the air station. Once there, local EMTs further transported him to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

Coast Guard rescue crews medically evacuated a 70-year-old woman in Provincetown Harbor, Massachusetts, Friday.  Watchstanders at Sector Southeastern New England received notification at 9:06 p.m. from the woman's husband that she was bleeding uncontrollably from her mouth.  A Station Provincetown crew was training nearby aboard a 29-foot response boat small and diverted to assist.  The rescue crew took the woman aboard and transported awaiting EMS at the Provincetown Harbor Pier.  "We train constantly for at-sea medical emergencies," said Petty Officer 1st Class Andrew Stokes, a watchstander at Sector Southeastern New England.  He said because the crew was already in the area, they were on scene immediately and able to transfer care quickly.
