ABS Assigned RO Status by Canada

India Okays Marititme MoU with Denmark

Swiss Climate EcoCare, Korean Register MoU for IMO DCS Services

The Classification Society Korean Register (KR) and Swiss Climate EcoCare GmbH has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to provide enhanced International Maritime Organization (IMO) Data Collection System (DCS) services to the maritime industry.According to a release, the MoU was signed in Hamburg, Germany on 22nd Nov 2018 in presence of Philipp Ahrenkiel, Managing Director at Swiss Climate EcoCare GmbH and Michael Suhr, Technical & Commercial Director at Korean Register, Germany.

Number of Indian Seafarers Jump by 42.3%

The number of seafarers in India has seen an unprecedented growth of 42.3% due to various policy level changes brought in by the Government in the last four years, said a Minister in India.According to Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport & Highways, Chemical & Fertilizer, from 108,446 seafarers in 2013, India now has 154,349 seafarers. India now provides 9.35% of the global seafarers and ranks 3rd in the list of the largest seafarer supplying nations in the world.At present, there are 17 lakhs seafarers globally including the 154,349 Indian seafarers.

ClassNK Updates Emissions Reporting Portal

Classification society ClassNK has released ClassNK MRV Portal (IMO DCS), a software service for the reporting, monitoring and verification of shipping CO2 emissions in line with the IMO DCS regulations that will come into effect in 2019.The implementation of fuel consumption data reporting regulations has been ongoing in an effort to reduce GHG emissions and the EU-MRV (European Union - Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) regulations for ships operating in the EU area began in 2018. Cenac Marine Awards SubM TPO Contract to ABS

ABS said it was awarded a Third-Party Organization (TPO) contract by Cenac Marine Services, owner and operator of a fleet of inland and offshore vessels, to support compliance with U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Subchapter M requirements. Panama Maritime Authority Authorizes Turk Loydu

Turk Loydu has been authorized by Panama Maritime Authority, the world’s leading maritime administration, to conduct survey and certification activities for Panama flagged ships. ClassNK e-Certificate Approved for Use by Leading Flag States

Classification society ClassNK has expanded the scope of the world’s first comprehensive electronic certificate service for classification and statutory certificates to include the flag states of Panama, Singapore and the Marshall Islands from September 15, 2017. The service, ClassNK e-Certificate, currently available to Liberian-flagged vessels, will be available to ClassNK-registered vessels from a total of four flag states, accounting for approximately 60 percent of vessels on the ClassNK register. ClassNK e-Certificate is the result of an innovative project aimed at reducing the workload on board and at shore by minimizing potential clerical errors and time-loss associated with paper burden.

Cooper Group Selects ABS for Sub M Services

ABS said it has been awarded a Third Party Organization (TPO) contract by the Cooper Group of Companies to support compliance with U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Subchapter M requirements. “ABS anticipated the needs that would surface when the Subchapter M regulations were published and allocated resources to develop a range of solutions,” said ABS Americas Division President, Jamie Smith. St. Vincent and the Grenadines Advises on Improvoing Flag Performance

The maritime administration of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has issued guidelines related to the improvement of the performance of the St. Lloyd’s Register (LR), as a recognized organization (RO) for the maritime administration, has a responsibility to notify owners and operators of the requirement for an occasional survey of any St. Vincent and the Grenadines flag vessel for which LR has issued statutory certification in accordance with SOLAS 74 (as amended). The requirement applies to vessels that have been detained at least once by any Port State Control (PSC) MOU within the last three years and whose next port of call is within a Paris MOU Member country. The occasional survey has a validity of six months.

ClassNK e-Certificate Service Underway

Classification society ClassNK said it will commence operation of its comprehensive electronic certificate service for classification and statutory certificates from June 15, 2017. The service, ClassNK e-Certificate, will first be made available to Liberian-flagged vessels on the ClassNK register exclusively. ClassNK e-Certificate is the result of a project aimed at reducing the workload on board and at shore by minimizing potential clerical errors and time-loss associated with paper burden. Based on the standards stipulated in IMO’s GUIDELINES FOR THE USE OF ELECTRONIC CERTIFICATES (FAL.5/Circ.39/Rev.2) released in April 2016, the system enables secure transmission of certificates from ship to shore and vice versa.

IRClass Expands Presence in Southeast Asia

Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) is boosting its presence in Southeast Asia with the opening of a new office in Malaysia. The move is part of its efforts to become a global classification society – a step taken after receiving recognition from the European Union. IRClass, which is a member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), has just gained authorization as a Recognized Organization (RO) from Thailand. It has also strengthened its presence further with the opening of an office in Malaysia after establishing its Hong Kong office last year.

ABS Wins Great Lakes Towing SubM Contract

ABS said it has been awarded a Third Party Organization (TPO) contract by The Great Lakes Towing Company (GLT) to support compliance with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Subchapter M regulations. “Every organization operating towing vessels in U.S. inland waterways will have to comply with Subchapter M,” said ABS Americas Division President Jamie Smith. The recently signed contract with GLT, which is a member of the American Waterways Operators (AWO), establishes ABS as the company’s TPO, providing surveys for its fleet and audits of its Responsible Carrier Program (RCP).
