Faststream Wins Chevron Recruitment Contract

Maritime, offshore and oil and gas recruitment group Faststream has been awarded a two-year supplier agreement by Chevron Products UK Limited. Change Recruitment Achieves MLC Standard

Change Recruitment Group announced that it is the first independent recruitment company in the U.K. to achieve the quality status which is gained by receiving a Declaration of Conformity to the Maritime Labor Convention. The Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) 2006 came into force August 20, 2013, and has led to greater employment protection for the majority of the world’s seafarers and Change International, the global division of Change Recruitment Group, is the first recruitment agency in the United Kingdom to achieve the requisite quality standards, having been audited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

ClassNK's First MLC Approval

ClassNK Issues First MLC Seafarer Recruitment Certification to NYK-FIL Ship Management Inc. ClassNK has issued its first approval for seafarer recruitment and placement service providers in line with the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC, 2006) to Manila-based manning company NYK-FIL Ship Management Inc. (NYK-FIL). The approval confirms the company’s conformance with the standards set forth in Regulation 1.4 (Recruitment and Placement) of the MLC 2006 which was adopted by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in 2006 to help ensure the safety and protect the rights of seafarers.

Clyde Marine Recruitment Achieves MLC Accreditation

MITAGS To Host Conference

Marlins Security eLearning Goes Global

The U.K. MCA have granted approval to Marlins for their new STCW eLearning courses, resulting in further expansion of Marlins’ international Approved Test Centre network. The 2010 Manila amendments to the STCW Convention came into effect in 2012 and included a new requirement, Section A-VI/6. This requires all crew, whether deck, engine/technical, hotel, superyacht or concession, to undergo security awareness training. Crew members with specific security duties must also study and gain certification for additional topics. Marlins STCW security courses allow students to learn remotely online, at their own pace. Study material is graphical and interactive, including mini assessments throughout, to check understanding.

Faststream Announces Director Promotion

Etpm Expands ROV Service with New Office

Proactive Accreditation for etpm

Subsea and marine recruitment specialist etpm announced two industry accreditations. The Aberdeen-headquartered company achieved its ISI 9001:2008 and 12001:2008 four months ahead of target. etpm also decided to take a proactive approach to gain Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) 2006 certification. The MLC 2006, which covers maritime labor law, came into force internationally in August 2013 and will come into force in the United Kingdom next year. While certification is not yet mandatory, recruitment companies can request that they be audited to show that their practices are already MLC compliant. etpm volunteered for audit and has been certified a year before implementation.

New Alliance Forms UOCC

United Overseas Tankers Ltd. (UOT), a General Maritime Corporation wholly-owned subsidiary, has entered into a alliance with Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd. to provide crew management services for all of General Maritime's vessels. The alliance will be named United Overseas Columbia Crewing Ltd. (UOCC) and will be responsible for such services as crew recruitment, training, payroll and quality control management. John P. Spinnaker Reports Buoyant Job Market

Maritime recruitment specialist Spinnaker Consulting has reported that despite general reports of a slowdown in the world economy, recruitment in the shipping, offshore and transport markets remains buoyant. Writing in the latest issue of Changing Course, Spinnaker's monthly e-mail newsletter, managing director Phil Parry says, "Contrary to most industry forecasts, 2002 does not look like being such a bad year for the shipping, offshore and transport job markets. We are currently experiencing a high demand for charterers and shipbrokers with 5-10 years' experience. are also healthy for maritime and insurance lawyers. This includes both litigators and finance specialists and not just at the usual 1-5 year qualified level, but equity partners too.

SIGGTO Survey Reveals Recruitment Challenge

Recruitment is the LNG sector’s principal challenge according to a survey of Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGGTO) members undertaken by international shipping recruiter Faststream.
