ABS Answers USCG Call for Port Cyber Security

New solution incorporates National Institute of Standards and Technology Cyber Security Framework (NIST CSF). ABS Advanced Solutions announced a first-of-its-kind cyber security solution to aid regulated maritime facilities in complying with US Coast Guard (USCG) guidance. The suite of services provides a turnkey solution for port and terminal facility operators responsible for maintaining USCG regulated Facility Security Plans (FSPs).In 2017, the USCG announced the intent that regulated maritime facilities in the United States address cyber security in their FSPs.

GTT Revenue Grows Thanks to Strong LNG Market

French liquefied natural gas containment system specialist Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), on the back of liquefied natural gas (LNG) market growth, reported 12% growth in revenues linked to royalties  for the first half of 2018.Growth in LNG fuel and new partnerships aided the company achieving a revenue of 127.2 million euros ($148.2 million) during the first half of this year compared to 113.7 million euros recorded in the first half of 2017.GTT said that it has received 21 orders  during the first six months of the year.Philippe Berterottière…

GTT, VARD Complete LNG Tank Contract

GTT concluded a contract with the Norwegian shipyard, VARD, for the supply of the LNG tanks to expedition ship, PONANT Icebreaker. This ship, whose delivery is planned for 2021, will be the first electric hybrid cruise ice-breaker with LNG propulsion. It will be operated by PONANT, a luxury polar expedition cruise line. Designed for LNG fuel specifications, these tanks will be equipped with GTT's Mark III membrane technology. The Group will conduct the construction of the tanks.

Partnership Creates spill Response 'One-Stop-Shop'

Norwegian suppliers Framo, Maritime Partner, Norbit Aptomar, and NorLense have come together to create the OSRV (Oil Spill Recovery Vessel) Group to offer a complete oil spill response solution. “Our aim is to be a one-stop-shop where we pool our efforts and act as a total systems supplier of safe, highly functional, and well-tested technology. The emergency response equipment has undergone thorough testing and quality assurance drawing on 40 years of oil spill response experience,” says Jørgen Brandt Theodorsen, Area Manager, Oil & Gas Pumping Systems, at Framo.

A new container scanner system has been introduced to the Colombo Port. The installation ceremony was launched by the Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Custom officials. According to the newest initiative four portals of Eagle P60, state of the art scanning units with complete turnkey solution would be installed by the Rapiscan Systems (Pvt) Ltd, an American based leading global supplier of security inspection. It was learnt the Rapiscan Systems (Pvt), the lowest bidder for the tender was awarded the contract by the government under the purview of customs authority.

ABB, Presserv Partner to Preserve Idle O&G Vessels

ABB’s marine and ports business will partner with Presserv to offer maintenance packages for vessels that serve the oil and gas industry that are laid-up for prolonged periods. The two companies will combine specialized services to enable the preservation of equipment onboard, which will eventually allow the smooth and timely resumption of service. As part of the cooperation, ABB will utilize its Remote Diagnostic Service (RDS) to provide key data to optimize the care packages.

New Drill Ship Equipped with AHC Drilling Platform

Newly launched multipurpose drill ship FREJA integrates a high-performance active heave compensated drilling platform manufactured by MacArtney. The drilling setup on board the vessel has been designed to provide enhanced drilling conditions even in rough seas. A customized, motion-compensated working platform of 10 times seven meters is situated amidships. This means that the working deck remains stationary while the vessel follows the movements of the waves. The platform design includes a roll function compensating for the vessel rolls by +/- 7 degrees.

Damen Secures Nigerian Patrol Vessel Order

Just over a year after it took delivery of the second of two FCS 3307 Patrol vessels, Homeland Integrated Offshore Services Limited (Homeland) of Nigeria has ordered one more of the same class with an option on a second, to be named Guardian 3 and Guardian 4. Like their two predecessors, the two vessels are being supplied as a turnkey solution. The Damen Group is taking care of delivery and crew training, as well as the design and build. Damen’s Local Service Hub in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, will ensure that maintenance, repairs and any additional support is handled by Damen engineers.

Darlington based product manufacturer and global supplier of fire, blast and heat protection systems Mech-Tool Engineering Ltd (MTE) said it has delivered a fully certified ABS fire rated wall system for a Chinese turnkey EPC contractor in offshore construction. The company’s stainless steel A60 fire rated wall system will offer the ultimate protection to personnel on the deep-water semi-submersible rig, BT4000, should they need to use the evacuation lifeboats during an emergency.

Last month we visited with Cameron Clark, Corporate Vice President, Development and Special Projects, Hornblower, the project manager for the new Citywide Ferry by Hornblower fleet, who discussed the challenges and opportunities ahead. Hornblower has, in the span of 36 years, become the force in the U.S. ferry market, with more than 2,000 employees and 20 million passenger trips annually, including a cumulative staff of 700 in the New York City area.

Repeat Order for Damen from Ivory Coast

Following the contract signing between Damen Shipyards Group and Société de Transport Lagunaire (STL) for 16 shallow-draught ferries for the Ivory Coast city of Abidjan, the two companies have announced a supplementary contract for eight Damen Pontoons 2404. STL will use the pontoons for vessel mooring and passenger transfer purposes. The eight 24-metre pontoons will be used to construct four separate ‘hop-on, hop-off’ ferry stations that will be capable of mooring a ferry as well as providing a stable structure fit for safe embarkation of passengers.

Two High-tech SSCVs Ordered in China

Holding OOS International Group B.V. confirms it has signed a fixed contract for the engineering and construction of two new build Semi-Submersible Crane Vessels (SSCV) with China Merchant Industry Holdings, a fully owned subsidiary of the China Merchant Group. “OOS took a quantum leap within the oil and gas/wind Industry,” said Léon Overdulve, Founder and owner of Holding OOS International Group B.V. OOS will equip its two new SSCVs named OOS Serooskerke and OOS Walcheren with two heavy lift cranes, with a total dual lifting capacity of 4,400T per vessel.

The CTG Sea Sentry is a wash water monitoring system which monitors both the sensor inlet and outlet of wet exhaust gas scrubber systems. CTG has to date supplied monitoring systems globally to the marine industry’s leading providers of Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems and announced the recent installation of the new improved Sea Sentry on board a major bulk carrier to monitor a newly installed SOx Scrubber system. To comply with International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental regulations, global shipping is required to meet specific exhaust gas emission levels.
