Senegal's O3S Orders Fast Supply Vessel from Penguin

O3S ā€“ Oil Senegal Support Services, a homegrown Senegalese operator servicing the country's fledgling offshore energy sector, has ordered a new 36-meter fast supply vessel (FSV) from Singaporean shipbuilder Penguin International. Construction on the new FSV is expected to start later this year, with delivery of the new vessel expected to take place in 2025.The new Incat Crowther-designed vessel will be capable of transporting 28 service personnel as well as 20 tonnes of cargo at speeds of up to 33.5 knots.

The crew of U.K. Royal Navyā€™s offshore patrol vessel HMS Trent has seized over $250 million worth of cocaine in the latest drugs bust in the Caribbean Sea, bringing the total drugs seized by the vessel so far to over $640 million.The latest bust came after HMS Trent was alerted to potential smugglers by a United States maritime patrol aircraft and used her powerful radars to track down the suspicious vessel.With the Royal Navy ship closing in, the vessel started throwing bales of cocaine into the sea to try and evade capture.The crew of HMS Trent then had to recover the drugs thrown overboardā€¦

BAE Systems Wins $87 Million Contract to Upgrade USS Carter Hall

The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems a contract worth more than $87 million for repair work aboard the dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50).The nearly 30-year-old vessel will undergo a year of restorative work at BAE Systemsā€™ shipyard in Norfolk, Va., which is also the shipā€™s homeport. The company said it will begin working aboard the 610-foot-long ship in July 2024, performing a combination of maintenance and preservation work on the shipā€™s hull, its internal fuel and ballast tanks and the engineering plant.

April Sees Jump in Methanol-Fueled Tanker Orders

According to the latest figures from DNVā€™s AFI platform, 23 new orders for alternative fueled vessels were registered in April 2024.A majority of these (12) were for methanol-fueled tankers, a segment where the uptake of alternative fuels has been low up until now.Seven orders were place for LNG-fueled vessels in April, and four ammonia-fueled vessel orders were confirmed. Following a quiet month in March, these strong figures confirm the overall trend of a steady increase in new orders for alternative fuels, says DNV.
