First Steel Cut for TUI Cruises' LNG-powered Cruise Ship

The first steel cutting ceremony was held for the first of two LNG-powered ships for the cruise ship operator TUI Cruises.Shipbuilder Fincantieri said Wednesday that the construction start-up ceremony had taken place in the presence of Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI, and Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager Merchant Ship Division of Fincantieri, in San Giorgio di Nogaro (Udine) at Centro Servizi Navali, a company specialized in logistics and production of sheet metal for the Fincantieri yards located in northeastern Italy.

Meyer Turku Begins Building TUI Cruises' Methanol-ready Cruise Ship

Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku announced it has cut first steel for Mein Schiff 7, the latest new cruise ship for Germany's TUI Cruises. Notably, the 111,500 GT cruise ship will be able to run on methanol fuel.“After two years of pandemics, we have returned to our course and will continue to grow as planned,” said TUI Cruises CEO Wybcke Meier, during an official steel cutting ceremony held at the Turku shipyard on Tuesday.“Mein Schiff 7 will take us forward in our work for more environmentally friendly cruise tourism. The ship will be built so that it can be used with methanol.

TUI Cruises Orders Two LNG Newbuilds

TUI Cruises, a joint venture between TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises has placed an order with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to build a pair of new-generation cruise ships to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).The new 161,000 gross ton vessels will be built at the Monfalcone shipyard and delivered in 2024 and in 2026. Including the new pair, the cruise line’s Mein Schiff fleet will grow to nine ships by 2026.“These will be the largest ships ever built in Italy,” said Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri.

Meyer Turku Floats Out New Mein Schiff 2

A month after the delivery of New Mein Schiff 1, the next ship in line, New Mein Schiff 2, has been floated out at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. New Mein Schiff 2 will be delivered to the customer, German TUI Cruises, early next year.The timetable for the construction of the ship shows how Turku shipyard has already been ramping up the production volume to meet the increasing demands from the order book.“Our block production capacity is already up on the level with previous high from 2010, when the shipyard was building Allure of the Seas.

New "Mein Schiff 1" in Kiel

The youngest ship in the fleet of TUI Cruises - “Mein Schiff 1” - has arrived in Kiel on her first visit. Kiel is the first German passenger seaport in which the new vessel has introduced herself, just a few days after she was handed over to her owners following completion in Turku, Finland. The new cruise ship, which is of more than 111,500 GT and 315 m long, arrived in the Kiel Fiord early on Thursday morning, April 27th, and was welcomed with a water fountain tribute from one of the port’s tugs and escorted to her berth. Crowds of onlookers lined the banks of the fiord and came to the Ostseekai Cruise Terminal to catch a glimpse of the brand new “Mein Schiff 1”.

Meyer Turku Delivers for TUI Cruises

TUI Cruises’ new 315 m flagship was delivered today from Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku.The fifth Mein Schiff cruise ship to be built by Meyer Turku for German owner TUI Cruises, the new Mein Schiff 1 is based on a new design created as an evolution from the existing Mein Schiff series.The builder’s architecture and engineering team, working together with TUI Cruises and its architects, used the previously delivered Mein Schiff 3 and Mein Schiff 4 as a starting point when beginning to work on the Mein Schiff 1 design in 2015.

Meyer Turku Floats Out New Mein Schiff 1

Shipbuilder Meyer Turku said it has floated out the new Mein Schiff 1 cruise ship for owner TUI Cruises. The vessel will undergo further interior outfitting before delivery in spring 2018. New Mein Schiff 1 is an evolution of the Mein Schiff 6 delivered earlier this year. She will be 20 meters longer (315 m) than her predecessor, which allowed for substantial redesign and further improvement of the interior spaces. "With the new Mein Schiff 1, TUI cruises creates a whole new ship generation in its fleet.

Mein Schiff 6 Makes Maiden Call in Kiel

The latest newbuilding to join TUI Cruises, Mein Schiff 6, has berthed in Kiel for the first time. Kiel is the ship’s first passenger port of call in Germany she has visited since she was handed over a few days ago in Turku, Finland. The 99,000 GT, 295 m long cruise ship arrived in the Kiel fiord on Thursday, May 11 to a water fountain welcome and was escorted to her berth by one of the port’s tugs. Onlookers lined the banks and visited the Ostseekai Terminal to catch a glimpse of Mein Schiff 6.

Meyer Turku Delivers Mein Schiff 6 for TUI

Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku said it has delivered the newly built cruise ship Mein Schiff 6, the fourth in a series for Germany’s TUI Cruises. “We are very happy about the delivery of Mein Schiff 6 in time and excellent quality,” said TUI Cruises CEO, Wybcke Meier. The vessel was handed over to its new owners during a ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard. Mein Schiff 1 & 2 Builds Progressing at Meyer Turku

TUI Cruises and Meyer Turku shipyard have jointly designed the New Mein Schiff 1 & 2 to be an evolution on the successful foundation of Mein Schiff 6. Today the construction of these ships is entering a next stage: The keel laying of New Mein Schiff 1 and the start of production of New Mein Schiff 2 were celebrated by invited guests, Meyer Turku employees, the CEO of TUI Cruises Wybcke Meier and the CEO of Meyer Turku Jan Meyer. At the same time Mein Schiff 6 is being completed for delivery at the outfitting key. New Mein Schiff 1 & 2 will be longer with 315 meters compared to the 295 meters of the previous ships. This lengthening allowed for a substantial redesign giving the ships several new features and interesting spaces for guests to enjoy.

Meyer Turku Cuts Steel for New Mein Schiff

The production of a new generation of Mein Schiff ships started today at Meyer Turku shipyard, Finland, with the steel cutting ceremony. The new Mein Schiff 1, NB-1392, will be around 20 meters longer than the previous Mein Schiff ships and will have space for additional 180 cabins. The steel cutting for hull number NB-1392 or the new Mein Schiff 1 was started by Georgios Vagiannis, Project Manager Newbuild, TUI Cruises, in a ceremony at the steel hall of Meyer Turku. The first steel cutting marks the start of production of a new generation of TUI Cruises ships. Mein Schiff 1 will be around 20 meters longer than the existing new builds and will have space for 180 additional cabins.

Kiel is First German Port of Call for Mein Schiff 5

The brand-new TUI Cruises newbuilding Mein Schiff 5 has arrived in Kiel – her first German port of call since being handed over in Turku, Finland, a few days ago. The 99,500GT, 295-meter-long cruise ship sailed into the Kiel Fiord early this morning, escorted by a Kiel tug and to a water fountain welcome. Mein Schiff 5 delivered to TUI Cruises Ahead of Schedule

Today, ten days ahead of schedule, TUI Cruises took delivery of Mein Schiff 5 from the Meyer Turku shipyard. Wybcke Meier and Frank Kuhlmann, CEO and CFO of TUI Cruises, together with Dr. Jan Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku Oy shipyard, marked the occasion with invited guests at the handing-over ceremony. In the early afternoon of June 21, 2016 the ropes will be cut. TUI Cruises Orders 2 More Ships from Meyer Turku

TUI Cruises GmbH and Meyer Turku Oy signed an agreement for the construction of two new cruise ships, Mein Schiff 7 and Mein Schiff 8, to be delivered in 2018 and 2019, respectively. According to the German shipbuilder, this latest order further strengthens its order book, which will see a high work load until 2020. Mein Schiff 4 was delivered from Meyer Turku on May 8, 2015, and Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 6 are to be delivered in 2016 and 2017, respectively. “TUI Cruises has firmly established itself in the German-speaking market, with occupancy of our fleet totaling more than 100 percent last year,” said Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises. “This year, demand has also been excellent so far - with bookings currently being taken for five ships.

Keel Laid for TUI Cruises’ New Ship

The keel of Mein Schiff 5 was laid on June 23, 2015 at Meyer Turku shipyard’s drydock. Before the keel-laying ceremony, the start of production of the sister ship Mein Schiff 6 took place in the shipyard’s construction hall. The production of the cruise ship Mein Schiff 6 was officially launched when TUI Cruises CEO Wybcke Meyer started the plasma cutting machine in the production hall of Meyer Turku shipyard. Another event was also celebrated at the shipyard on the same day, as the next milestone in the building process of the Mein Schiff 5 took place.

Historic Cruise Ship Float Out in Finland

The Meyer Turku Oy yard in Turku, Finland, celebrated a historical day on October 10, 2014. Meyer Turku Oy, which officially changed ownership only three weeks earlier with the takeover by Papenburg, Germany cruise ship building power Meyer Werft, floated out the cruise ship Mein Schiff 4. Jan Meyer, the CEO of Meyer Turku Oy, and Wybcke Meier, the new CEO of TUI Cruises opened the valves to flood the dry dock. In May 2013, about 17 months ago, Turku shipyard celebrated the keel-laying of Mein Schiff 3 and start of production of Mein Schiff 4.

TUI Cruises Expands to Six Ships by 2017

TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises are substantiating their expansions plans for their joint venture TUI Cruises. The Mein Schiff fleet shall grow from now three to six ships and then 14,000 beds by 2017. TUI Cruises is strengthening its already sound and dynamic position in the German cruise market. Both the Boards of TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises have decided to order the two newbuilds. The Mein Schiff 4 is currently being built and with the now decided new orders of Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 6 TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises are investing in touristic growth markets. The parent companies of Hamburg-based TUI Cruises expect a sustained high demand in the cruise sector and therefore, in good time, came to the decision to expand further.
