The Panama Canal commemorated the one-year anniversary of the inauguration of its Expanded Canal, one of the most significant milestones in the history of the 102-year old waterway and a defining moment for the people of Panama and the global maritime industry. In its first year of operations, the Expanded Panama Canal has continually set records and surpassed expectations, resulting in redrawn global trade routes and positive world-wide impact, as the Canal looks to further position Panama as the logistics hub of the Americas.

USCG Celebrates 209th Anniversary

Originally formed as the Revenue Cutter Service in 1790, the USCG, which celebrated its 209th year anniversary in August, has grown to include other federal agencies including the U.S. Life-saving Service in 1915, the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1939 and the Bureau of Navigation and Steamboat Inspection Service in 1942. As a result, the missions of the modern-day USCG include safety of life at sea, maritime law enforcement, marine environmental protection, waterways management, and national defense. Therefore, the USCG is truly a multi-missioned maritime service. Recently, the USCG was authorized a battle streamer for the Maritime Defense of the New Republic.

Harrington Hoists, Kito 20-Yr Anniversary

Harrington Hoists, Inc., recently hosted a celebration dinner in honor of their 20th year anniversary as a wholly owned subsidiary of Kito Corporation. This relationship allowed the company, in a joint effort, to become the sole source for Harrington / Kito hoist and crane products in the United States and Mexico. Edward (Ned) Hunter, president and CEO of Harrington Hoists, Inc. presented a gift made from an original Harrington hoist dating back to the 1800’s to Yoshio Kito, President and CEO of Kito Corporation, to commemorate the 20 year union. Tankship Owners TORM Get Credit Facility Extension

Denmark-based TORM say that all lenders have supported the agreement to extend the existing Super Senior Working Capital Facility by six months until 31 March 2015 to facilitate the completion of the recapitalization process. Given the current limited draw, the extended facility will be reduced from USD 100m to USD 50m on TORM’s request, however the extension remains subject to continued progress in the recapitalization process. 'The 100% consent level representing more than 40 lenders is a strong sign of the support to TORM and the efforts to recapitalize the Company.

Executive Director of MITAGS and PMI, to Receive Achievement Award

Australian businessman and owner of Blue Star Cruise Line, Professor Clive Palmer, hosted the black-tie event aboard the retired 'USS Intrepid'. Three New Tractor Tugs Christened

Tugz International L.L.C., an affiliate of The Great Lakes Group, christened three "Z" Class multi-purpose reverse tractor tugs at MARCO Shipyard, Seattle, completing the second phase of the company's fleet expansion and upgrade program, which now exceeds $30 million. The christening ceremony marks the 100 year anniversary of The Great Lakes Towing Company, whose early shareholders included John D. Rockefeller and James R. Sinclair. Z-Three, Z-Four and Z-Five, as the tugs are called, will be operated under a U.S. Navy contract to provide harbor towing services at the U.S. Naval Base, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Designed by Jensen Maritime Consultants, Seattle, the 95 x 32 ft.

CSB Still Investigating Deepwater Horizon Spill

The following statement was released from U.S. Chemical Safety Board Chairman Dr. On the one-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig accident I would like to take this opportunity to remember the 11 workers who were killed as a result of this catastrophic explosion and fire. We also wish to express our condolences to the families and coworkers whose lives will be forever impacted. The CSB’s investigation of this accident continues to examine a number of critical offshore oil and gas process safety issues. Currently CSB investigators are focusing on evaluating physical evidence, including participating in the first phase of the blowout preventer testing.

Over 1000 guests gathered in Oslo to celebrate DNV’s 150th anniversary and DNV GL’s first year as a merged company. Dräger celebrates 100 year anniversary

2007 marks 100 years that Dräger first established subsidiary offices in the United States. Dräger in Lübeck, Germany. with its rescue breathing apparatus used by miners and fire brigades in Europe, England and Mexico. And in 1904, Dräger was awarded a gold and a silver medal at the World’s Fair Universal Exposition in St. Louis for their respiratory devices. JRC Celebrates 100-year Anniversary

Japan Radio Company (JRC) has announced the reaching of its 100-year anniversary in 2015. With the passing of the private radio law in Japan in June 1915, the company was founded in December of the same year as the Japan Radiotelegraph Manufacturing Company. Within year one the first product was developed, a radiotelegraph unit which was installed on a rescue vessel. It was not until the 1940s that the company changed its name to JRC, and today’s known logo came into effect, which is this year exactly 70 years old. In 1953 JRC was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the company continued to be heavily involved in unique and challenging projects.

Hawaii State Legislature Commends Pearl Harbor Shipyard Centennial

The Hawaii State Legislature honored Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY) for the first time March 18 with a House resolution and a Senate commendation lauding the Shipyard's 100 years of service to the Navy. PHNSY will hold its official 100-year anniversary celebration on May 13. PHNSY finds its roots in the 1800s, as the world's navies explored and established ports throughout the . Congress passed an Act officially creating Pearl Harbor Navy Yard, , in May of 1908 and authorized nearly $3 million to help build it. Rep. Lynn Finnegan sponsored the resolution, which was signed by all members of the Hawaii State House of Representatives. PHNSY Commander, Capt.
